Log: Matt & Johnny
Aug. 23rd, 2012 03:26 pmJohnny and Matt show off for each other as they get to know the other in the gym and Matt picks up a most awesomest of hobbies.
It wasn't hard to find Johnny in the gymnastics gym. Between himself, Renee, Mr. Sefton and now Johnny, it was getting to be a busy place. "Johnny?" he called, coming in cane in front of him as he toed his sneakers off at the door. He heard the unfamiliar heartbeat, but he wanted to make sure it was actually Johnny and not someone else he was unfamiliar with.
Johnny had been using the high bar and the sound of Matt's voice was enough to startle him into letting go at the apex of his swing. He flipped and landed crouched on top of the bar, balancing easily on it, heart pounding. "Hi! You're Matt, right?" he asked before jumping down to the floor.
"Yeah," Matt somehow resisted the comment about it being obvious. "Sorry to startle you," he wasn't too sorry though given that Johnny was now on top of the high bar and not falling off it.
"It's all good. Broken danger sense, remember? You kind of can't avoid it," and he was getting used to the feeling of perpetual terror. "So, what's up?"
Oh, right. Oops. "Just coming to mess around," Matt replied. "Sort of neglected my gymnastics over the summer and want to get back in again," what with Genosha and drugs and withdrawal and everything.
"Cool." Johnny looked at Matt speculatively. Sure, he was blind but he said he had that sonar thing and he could do gymnastics.
"Uh, yeah," duh. Couldn't everyone do that? Well...maybe not vaulting, but somersaults, surely! Going to get the small radio he kept in the gym, Matt turned it on, slipped his sunglasses off and folded his cane, setting them carefully on the corner of the mat. "Watch," he advised, running at the pommel horse, jumping and mounting it. It wasn't perfect, but he hadn't had hit it with his stomach or face, which was a good start. He'd done that plenty of times before. Using his momentum, he began to swing his legs before circling on it, scissoring his legs and generally showing off.
Johnny grinned. "That's pretty awesome, man." The pommel horse was probably too high for Matt to jump right now but that was cool, since someone else had been using the vaulting box. He dragged a couple of mats over, padding the ground around it and then said "So, like, the most important thing you've got to do is jump over things, really, so I thought maybe we could start with vaulting. You kind of hit it with your hands and flip your legs over and land on your feet. Watch." (Was he allowed to say 'watch?')
He took a couple of running steps and jumped lightly, slapping the top of the box with his hands, harder than he would have normally and flipped his legs across before landing on the other side, just past the mats.
Dismounting the pommel horse, Matt explored the vault for a moment, then wanted over to where Johnny began. "Easy," he stated, copying Johnny, but flipping over with an added twist and landing on the other side. It wasn't quite a perfect landing, but that was okay. He liked showing off a little.
Johnny grinned. "Dude. That's awesome. So, you've got vaulting down. Do you want to set up a course in here, before we head outside?"
"Yeah, I want to see what you can do and how all this works," Matt explained.
'What I can do?" Johnny asked, dragging a second vault out from against the wall and putting it between the uneven bars and the beam. The first vault was still on the other side of the bars. With everything set up like that, yeah, he could make the distances. Probably. Or at least land on his feet when he missed, right? "You know that I've got super powers in this area, right?" He said with a cocky grin. He took a couple of running steps toward the climbing frame on the wall and bouncing to the top where he scurried along it on hands and feet for a dozen feet before curling himself into a ball and springing from the frame into a flip. Johnny was aiming for the end of the beam but caught the very end of it with one foot and sprang off again, twisting wildly to crouched on top of the beam, danger sense flaring. Yeah, that was close.
He took off, skipping down the beam and jumped to the vault, landing on his hands and from there, he hit the floor once before swinging himself under the uneven bars and back around, going for the vault. He missed it, falling far short of the target and turned the undirected fall into a somersault across the floor before lunging at the vault and going over it.
Yeah... he totally had it, what with the falling and the missing.
Okay, that was definitely impressive and if it was anything like the youtube video, then something he definitely wanted to do! "Nice!" Matt approved, impressed. It didn't matter if Johnny had super powers like this or not. "I definitely want to learn this. Looks cool." And there had been enough sound and movement that he had seen it all without a problem.
"It's freaking awesome is what it is," Johnny replied. "Come on.. Let's get started."
