Sam arrives at the Guthrie homestead and finds it under attack. All hands pitch in but will it be enough
The scenery whizzed by as Sam blasted his way home for all he was worth, going as fast as he possibly could. If Morse was right, and he knew she probably was, then the Guthrie homestead was also being attacked right at that moment. Even though his friends were with his mama and his siblings he couldn't let them fend off those bastards alone, so he was giving it all he had to get back to help.
When he arrived he saw a whole slew of people surrounding the house, with some familiar faces out on the porch of the house as they seemed to have realized what was happening. Landing at a safe distance away so he didn't plow through the house itself, Sam waved at them, signalling his arrival before throwing himself on the back of one of the several men running towards his home.
"Cannonball!" Kurt called over to him. "We can keep them out, but we may need water! You have a well, yes?"
"Over on the other side of the house!" Sam had knocked the man down, but two of his buddies had noticed his arrival and now he was fending them off, trying to distract them from going after the house.
"LET THE HOUSE OF THE WICKED BURN!" He was still carrying the torch in his hand, a smirk on his face. Turning when he heard Guthrie voice and just smiled, "Spawn of Satan has revealed himself!"
Tabitha tossed a man to the ground and kicked him when he landed, feeling the ribs give under her foot. Cammie used to do things like that, on their wild nights out together, and it was those memories that kept her from flinging bombs with the same rage and recklesness she was flinging her fists and feet. "You think he's evil? He's Mister Goddamned Sunshine and Light compared to us!"
Lorna ducked and then rammed her fist -which was covered in metal at this point - into another man's stomach. Hearing that there was a well on the other side of the house. "Nightcrawler lets get the water." Taking off into the air to the other side of the house.
Kurt was at the well before her, not needing to cross the intervening space, and was already working the chain to bring up the bucket as she landed.
Knocking one of his many assailants to the ground, Sam blasted forward again, tacking another pair that'd turned to face him. There were still a lot of them between him and Reed, however, who was wielding the fire. He had to duck to avoid a heavily swung 2x4 aimed at his head, punching its swinger in the stomach as he did so. "He's gettin' closer to the house!"
Jubilee flicked the habitual sunglasses she wore, even when it was dark downward to cover her eyes before sending several colourful flares at the faces of the men arrayed against her. Her first instinct was simply to eliminate the threat with extreme prejudice but this was Sam's family farm, and he and his relatives would still need to live here after they were long gone. That called for restraint, and a slightly more mundane option.
Kicking ass the old fashioned way would just have to do.
Mrs. G wasn't a mutant, but that didn't mean that she couldn't handle herself. Shotgun in hand, she stood on the porch, ready to defend her house if they got this close. This farm had been in her husband's family for generations and it was now hers to support and for her children to inherit. She had been born to this and was not afraid. Watching her son and his friends was inspiring and she cocked the gun, raising it to her shoulder and sighting down the barrel, "You are trespassing and the police have been called!" she yelled, "Get off my property or I will shoot!"
One of them knew a bit about dirty fighting, but Tabitha only came away with teeth marks on her arm. The biter no longer had is four front teeth. She started to sprint towards the torch-bearer, but three more guys intercepted her. She wasn't going to make it.
Kurt, however, was much harder to intercept. He appeared right next to Reed, full bucket of water in his hands and yellow eyes blazing, and hurled the whole thing straight at the man and his torch.
With little time to react, Reed tossed the torch to the side. There was no way in hell that some mutants were going to stop him from accomplishing what he had set out to do. The next second later he was wet from the water that was thrown at him- but the damage was already done. Taking a step back at the building next to them caught on fire. Taking one look at the blue demon Reed turned and ran his work was done.
The rest of the people attacking the premises fled along with Reed, seeing as their leader was fleeing the scene and the building was alight. Their job was accomplished, not to mention the fact that they were on the losing end of a beating from the mutants, so there was no need to stick around.
Sam started after one of the assailants who'd started to run away, but he stopped when he saw why they were leaving. A corner of the house was burning, the flames spreading up the edge of the house towards the roof. "The house is on fire, dammit! We need some water stat!" While speaking he'd already taken off, flying towards the entrance of the house where he knew they kept a fire extinguisher.
"I got you." Lorna came back with the makeshift metal bucket filled with water and tossed it at the fire.
The house being on fire was Not Good! "Call the fire department!" Mrs. G yelled, running over to the barn and coming back hauling a hose and shooting it at the house. "Keep the water coming!" It would take the county a while to get out there and if they could prevent it from spreading or even put it out themselves, that would be the best. She couldn't lose the house.
Bursting out of the house as carefully as he could, Sam flew to the top of the house, spraying the flames with the contents of the extinguisher as soon as he landed. With Lorna manipulating the water bucket, Sam wielding the fire extinguisher, and Mrs. Guthrie using the hose, combined with everyone else's efforts, the flames started to fall back and then were put out.
The fire department, called by one of Sam's siblings at the outset of the attack, arrived and kept a steady stream of water on the burnt portion of the house, watering down the still warm area to ensure it didn't catch fire again.
Sam wiped his brow as he landed back on the ground, placing the spent extinguisher on the ground. "Thanks guys, looks like it's under control now." Close to exhaustion, Sam sat down on the ground, not caring if he'd get himself wet from all the water being sprayed about. At least the fire was out and his family was safe.
