Kurt and Rachel, Tuesday night
Oct. 2nd, 2012 10:31 pmThere were advantages to being a night owl, Kurt had learned long ago. One of them was that when you just happened to be hanging out in the entrance hall in the wee small hours, you could catch people sneaking out.
"Hello, Rachel."
Hefting the backpack on her shoulder, Rachel paused midway through the front hall and cocked her head in Kurt's direction. Her annoyance at the belated reminder of her now limited powers sputtered and died a quick death at the sight of the blue-furred mutant.
"Kurt."
He was sitting on the banister, watching her calmly and knowingly, with a glance flicked at the backpack.
"You are going somewhere?"
"Yeap," she nodded, looking quite unfazed at being found leaving the school in the dead of the night. "Things to do an' all that."
Rachel hadn't seen Kurt around at all since her 'rescue' in July. The girl had chalked it up to general avoidance. Although on whose part it stemmed from, she wasn't sure.
Kurt nodded back. "I suppose it has been a long wait for you, in the circumstances. Do you know where to look?"
It was almost startling how this Kurt got her pinned so quickly. Almost as if he knew her on a deeper level than vague memories of her as a tot. Rachel nodded, a small frown creasing her forehead as she locked gazes with those painfully familiar eyes, reminding her of the man she had left behind.
"Ja. Some idea, at least. It'll take some digging."
"He may not be such an easy man to find", he warned. "With powers such as his, that could be used for great harm... I think he may not want to be."
"If it were easy, I wouldn't be doing this," she said, undeterred, verdant eyes flashing dangerously in the dim lighting. "If it were easy, I think I'll be pretty pissed." For having had to wait so long to no avail.
Kurt snorted. "As you should be, because that would mean we had been delaying you on purpose. I promise, we are not."
Rachel nodded, mouth compressed in a frown, knowing her mounting frustration was not intentionally incurred. However, rational thought did not always prevail. "Taking the search into my own hands is for the best. For my mood and the busy schedules of your team." And Remy's. The girl offered Kurt another shrug, this one accompanied by a sardonic twitch of her lips. "Since I can't earn my keep here, I may as well be of use to myself."
He nodded, accepting her point with a flicker of a smile in return. "You will let us know how the search is going? And especially if you run into any trouble?"
"Ja," she agreed easily, though not exactly sure how she would - and if she would want to - do that. She studied Kurt for a moment, eyes flickering over his crouched form. "I'll try my best."
"All anyone can ask", Kurt agreed just as easily, and hopped down from his perch. "And now, the least I can do is arrange you a plane ticket and a taxi. It is a long way into the city."
"What makes you think I'm going into the city?" Rachel asked, watching his approach with curiosity, although she didn't reject the unexpected offer. She had been planning on jacking one of the cars. But hey."Ever so logical." She did not quite smile, but the teasing in her tone was quite obvious to him. "I suppose I can only graciously accept."
Kurt grinned in response to the teasing. "I am pleased to hear it. So where would you like to go first?"
"Hokkaido. There's an early morning flight that isn't fully booked."
"Then we had better go and book it while there is still time." He offered his hand, flicking his tail in the direction of the upstairs offices. "And then I will call you that cab."
