Lorna and Sue: Surfing, Stories and Cake
Oct. 3rd, 2012 12:22 amSue goes looking for Lorna and find herself learning something she had never expected.
"Helloo. Miss Dane?" Sue knocked on the door to Lorna's office, yet despite repeated knocks there was no reply from inside the office, so with a shrug the girl pushed open the door and stuck her head inside. The office was, sadly, empty; Lorna was obviously elsewhere at the moment. Sue sighed in disappointment and was about to go fetch her detective hat, she totally had a Dr Watson type bowler, and hunt down Lorna when she spotted something peeking out from behind the desk. The blonde's manners battled valiantly in the face of her natural curiosity the the struggle was short lived and ultimately vain. Whistling innocently Sue slipped into Lorna's office and peeked around the desk, her eyes lighting up at the sight of the surfboard lying there.
Walking into the kitchen Lorna saw the quick movement of someone walking into her office. Tilting her head to the side, the green haired woman walked over and leaned on the doorway, "Like what you see Miss Storm?" Lorna hadn't really talked much to the teenager since July - when Lorna was part of the team that went in to help save Sue and her brother from a kidnapper.
Sue span around, a guilty look flashing across her face closely followed by chagrin at being caught. "Uhh Hey Miss Dane, I was just looking for you, Is it yours?" she asked pointing at the surfboard. "Do you surf?"
Lorna just smiled at Sue as she walked into her office and stood next to Sue, "How can I be of a service to you Miss Storm?" Lorna looked over at her surfboard and went over and picked it up, "I do... occasionally. Why? Do you surf?"
"I wish," Sue replied, "I've only ever seen it in movies and at the beach near my grandfather's place. But it always looked like a lot of fun. Is it?"
Nodding and set the board down against the wall, "Yes. I learned a couple of years ago. Still not at the skill level of the man who taught me, but I can hold my own." Turning back to Sue. "The waves are better in Hawaii than they are here."
"There are waves here?" Sue asked in confusion, "but we're in New York, it's not really surfer territory is it?"She turned back to the board, "Did you ever compete? Or are you one of the people who surf for the thrill of surfing that you see in the movies?"
"True there are waves here, but the water is so much colder and a rocky coast isn't idea for surfing." Lorna smiled and shook her head, "No. I dated someone who surfed. He taught me. And no thrill surfing, it was fun. Once you learn not to fall off the board every couple of seconds."
"Yeah," Sue commiserated, "I know how that feels. Layla is trying to teach my how to skate. Which mainly involved her pulling me around and me falling off the board. How good a surfer are you now? How often do you go out and practice?" she asked curiously.
"Well surfing is like skateboarding. Just with water instead of cement." Lorna pointed out. "You get good at one, the other becomes cake." Lorna put her finger to her lips. "I think I am pretty good. I don't fall as I used too. And only when time permits it. I haven't been surfing in awhile actually."
"So you end up with less cuts, scrapes and bruises all you get is a little wet, and that never hurt anyone," Sue summed up with a grin. "Sounds heavenly, where do I sign up for classes?" She quipped.
"You want to learn how to surf?" Lorna questioned her.
Lorna's question took the girl by surprise, she had meant it as a joke and had to take a moment to think of an answer to the older woman. "Yeah, I guess I do." she offered with a small smile, "It always looked so interesting on TV and I like swimming. Do you think you could teach me?"
"Do you think you can start getting up at 4 am?" Lorna asked with a smirk on her face.
Sue just stared at Lorna, "4 am?" she squeaked, "please tell me that was a joke" the blonde pleaded.
Lorna laughed, "Best time to surf is in the morning. No tourist. The wind isn't blowing around making the waves choppy and knocking you over."
"Ok, so that's a good reason, but still 4 am. Still it'll be fun right?" she said hopefully. Before narrowing her eyes in mock suspicion, "I'm not gonna have to call you sensei or something am I?" she teased.
"It is always fun to surf." Lorna laughed again and shook her head. "No, you can call me Lorna though."
"Says someone who knows they're not falling off their board into the freezing early morning water," Sue replied with a grin.
"Which is why our first lesson will be the proper etiquette of a bodysuit. I don't think I have any that will fit you but we can always go and buy you one."
"Oh, shopping, why didn't you say so. That's completely different," Sue replied with a smile. "When can we go?" She was't excited about this, there was no way she would ever admit to being excited about waking up that early.
"I would say during one of the weekends, that way it won't cut into your school and me feeding the people of this place."
Sue nodded, "I guess feeding the mansion is pretty important," she allowed with a laugh. "let me know when you get free?"
"Sure thing. But what was that you original came in to ask me?" Lorna asked.
"Umm," Sue hedged, she knew it was important but she couldn't quire remember why she had been looking for Lorna in the first place. "Cake!" she remembered. "Adrienne's been seemed pretty down recently, I was hoping you could help me make a cake to cheer her up." The blonde indicated a mess of burnt dishes in the sink, "I tried but I burnt the mixture. I'll do all the cleaning up after, I swear."
"Cake huh? Okay this way." Lorna said as she moved around her desk. "And your extra sweet for making someone a cake when they are feeling down. And we'll make sure you don't burn anything."
