The group sit down at the end of their first full day and discuss their findings.

"So, who would like to go first?"  Jean-Phillipe leaned back and nibbled at a cereal bar.  He'd had to promise to bring boxes of the things with him due to his metabolism.  "Wait, no, I will go first." He tossed his head with a grin for his coworkers.  "First, it seems that there is an unusually high concentration of mutant children in this area."

"It is very strange, yes," Yvette agreed. "Many come here from other places, even, but no-one can say why."

"Some sort of African version of District X?" Angelo suggested, knowing it wasn't much of an explanation.  "They started coming here and it got a reputation?  But that doesn't tell us why it started in the first place, or why more would be born here."

"Perhaps not quite like District X, but if you are already a refugee and you hear somewhere there are a lot more people like you, it makes sense to go there if you can make it." Sooraya quietly suggested. "That still does not explain why there is also higher birth rate though. Has any research been done on environmental factors?" She remembered that much from her studies, that there could be various factors that could cause a higher mutation rate.

Fred lit a cigarette, pushing smoke out his nose, "The few Ah've been able tah communicate with, they seem pretty well adjusted...Ah mean, some of 'em are hungry and scared, but..."

"...but they are also disappearing," Yvette supplied. "Not all at once, but from the children, I was able to find out that some of their friends just walked into the jungle and did not come back."

"Well, I'm willing to bet it's not the Slender Man out there so there's that." John, ever so helpful. He reached across the table to steal a cigarette from Fred before continuing on. "Aside from the disappearances, none of the people I've spoken to have seen anything else out of the ordinary. No little green men, no bright lights, unidentified flying objects... Once again, we're dealing with little human bastards."

"As always", Angelo agreed grimly.  "But the question is what the little human bastards are doing with them.  Some flavour of slavery'd be my guess."

Jean-Phillipe neatly filched the cigarette out of John's hand and took a drag off of it with a smirk.  He frowned at Angelo's theory, though, the more because it -was- the likeliest explanation.  He leaned back in his chair with a grunt.  "I suppose that the next question is how we proceed next, to see if we can find out if Angelo's guess is correct."

"Keep an eye on the kids", Angelo said with a shrug.  "Follow them discreetly if any of them do wander out of the village.  It's all we
can really do."
