Log: Haunted Houses are fun
Oct. 27th, 2012 08:29 pmMolly, Tandy, Hope, Sue & Matt go to a haunted house for Halloween, then debate what to do next. The end result - a new Olympic sport - Competitive Trick or Treating!
Matt kept his arm snugly around Sue's waist as they tramped across the field where the Haunted House was back to the main road. It had been set up in a field just off the main road so it wasn't far from town, but just enough away that it seemed as if it were. He used his cane too, despite being able to 'see' just as well in the dark as he did in the day time because the ground was uneven and a little wet from rains a few days earlier. "That was cool!" he pronounced, "I really liked that circle tube thing."
Walking on the other side of Sue, "Sorry about the whole glow in the dark thing guys.Though I think Sue was thankful for that." Poking fun at her friend - Tandy skin was still glowing as they walked through to the main road.
Sue blushed slightly at Tandy's teasing, she had known exactly what was going to happen; but that hadn't stopped her from squealing and grabbing Matt when she had felt a draft blowing across the back of her neck and had heard a noise coming from the dark. "It wouldn't be fun if someone didn't freak out and panic, I'm just providing a public service." she defended herself with a grin as she leaned comfortably against Matt's shoulder.
A pair of calico cat ears from a knit cap made up the back of the line, sometimes dragging, sometimes quick as Molly bobbed and weaved past pumpkins and bales of hay and gravestones and stuff.
It was very hard to try and not punch things when they jumped out at her but she did good she thought. Cause Monet had said before that punching things and people accidentally was bad.
This was fake scary and not real scary anyway. Sort of like the dangerous room except you didn't punch things at all. You just...screamed a lot and didn't do anything except walk around. But it just made Matt and Sue snuggle. That was kinda weird. But they did like each other so that was normal? Matt hadn't really talked to her much anymore after he and Sue started kissing.
A few moths started to flutter around Tandy and Molly peered at them, occasionally reaching out to try to touch one but they always flew out of her grasp. She didn't try to grab cause that never ended well.
"Can we get cider now? Oooh, and trick or treating? I can get my costume!"
"Cider sounds awesome," Matt agreed, "Anyone else have a costume?" He didn't, but he normally didn't go trick or treating or anything.
"I am afraid I do not have one. I have not been trick or treating in a few years. Though if we really need one, I might be able to find something." Hope replied, still putting the last pin in her bun in place after it had gone all messy. "What have you chosen to dress up in, Molly?"
"We could go to the costume store!" Molly said. Maybe they were open at night?
"Oh...I'm Wonder Girl! She's Wonder Woman's...sister and herself and another girl and...and..." Molly furrowed her brows thoughtfully.
"Um..there's a lot."
"Donna Troy or Cassie Sandsmarks? Both are technically Wonder Girl." Tandy winked at Molly. "Well I might have some make up in my purse...might be able to give you guys a quick zombie look or something. But I would be down for trick or treating."
Sue twisted round to look at the others, "We're going trick or treating then?" she asked unable to keep a hopeful note out of her voice. It didn't really matter how old you got, it was always fun, and seeing peoples costumes was awesome some people put so much effort into Halloween. "I might be able to find something to wear," she admitted before turning to Tandy, "You know you've got zombies on the brain right?"
What was it with girls and dressing up for stuff?! Molly was...well, okay, she was in high school now, so she counted. She wasn't all that 'little' anymore. He kinda felt bad about not hanging out with her more, but it wasn't anything she'd done. He'd been dealing with his addiction and getting it under control and then school started and he had to get good grades and well....it had been a while. Being a senior meant he didn't really have any classes or anything with her either. "Anyone got an idea for me then? Or am I the lame one who doesn't get a costume?"
"Ray Charles?" Tandy said and tilted her head to look at Matt from the dark, "Or I can put some white make up on you and you can go as a ghost. And yes Sue, Zombies are on the brain."
"That could indeed work." Hope looked over Matt thoughtfully. "It would be slightly more ironic, but we might be able to find a pallet, a brush and a work shirt splattered with paint in the boathouse or art room and turn you into an artist. I have a black beret that might add as well to the costume."
"All the Wonder Girls?" Molly offered unhelpfully to Tandy. "What about a zombie artist?" then added, picking up her pace to catch up.
"Or a Men in Black! He could hunt aliens! And he just needs a suit!"
Her pumpkin Mickey Mouse hat started to fall off so she adjusted it. In the process she wasn't watching where she was going, however and tripped over a rock, smacking into a tree. A burst of leaves rained down from the impact and she stumbled backwards.
"Whoops."
Sue spun around and at the sound saw Molly lying on the ground, "Are you ok?" she asked the younger girl in concern glancing at the tree as she quickly turned to head back to help Molly up.
"How's the tree?" Matt asked, teasing Molly a little. She was super tough. "Want my cane so you won't trip?"
Molly blinked at the tree with a frown as she grabbed Sue's hand. "Thanks! I'm okay. I'm unsquishable," she said, then patted the tree and let out a breath of relief.
"No smush marks on the tree...That's good!" she said. It wasn't the tree's fault she had walked into it. She tilted her head at Matt after a moment, realizing he'd been kidding.
"Nooo," she said, curling her nose at him. She couldn't stick out her tongue cause he wouldn't see it.
"I am glad you and the tree are alright." Hope interjected with a smile. "Though I'd reconsider Matt's suggestion if you encounter a tree again, even if you are 'unsquishable'. The tree might not be so lucky next time." She ventured forward carefully with just a little teasing.
Molly frowned. "I'll be more careful," she said as she bowed her head and started walking ahead, away from the group.
Tandy jogged to catch up to Molly, "You know what...I bet the tree deserved it...I mean totally standing in your way. How rude is that?" Wrapping an arm around the younger teen. "But you know might make the night be a tad bit better? Getting some more candies than the rest of those guys." Pointed back to the group. "What do you say? Can we out beat them?"
Shoving her hand in her pockets, Molly glanced over to Tandy and shrugged.
"Maybe?" she said. She did like candy.
"Nah," Matt disagreed, taking some longer strides to join Tandy and Molly. "I bet you can't. I mean, my costume's gonna be awesome. And no one can resist my puppy dog eyes," ha! Or you know, completely resist them.
Sue stepped up next to Matt and grinned, "Now that sounds like challenging talk to me," she stated grateful that Tandy had found a way to perk up Molly. "We get Hope cause you have the whole cute factor going for you?"
"I think that is an excellent idea, Sue." Hope agreed, nodding seriously, but her eyes twinkling. "That might be needed to even out the numbers since I am afraid Molly might count for two."
"Definitely. Hell, they gotta put up with my ugly mug," Matt made a goofy face and hoped that Molly liked it. "So back to the school to find costumes and then out for candy?" That sounded like a good plan to him!
Chewing on her lip, Molly unfolded her arms and tip-toed curiously as they headed for the car. "And...who ever gets the most candy gets something?" Wasn't that what going against people was about? It sounded kinda fun. Everyone seemed excited too.
She made a face. "You're not ugly!"
Matt laughed, "Well, thanks. It's my face for good or bad, but it's nice to know that I won't frighten small children with it. Even if it is Halloween."
"I dunno," Sue mused, "Isn't the whole point of Halloween to scare people?" She waited a moment before grinning, "Nah, candy is way more important. I'm sure we can find a good prize for the winning team, like winning team gets to pick the movie tonight?"
"Sue, we all know you have to watch horror movies on Halloween. It is like a rule, so you aren't getting out of it." Tandy looked over at Sue. "I say we just go to the nearest Halloween store and buy the first thing we see."
"Hmmm... I actually think Sue has a good idea, Tandy. I know one is supposed to watch horror movies on Halloween, but I am not exactly fond of them, if I am very honest. So perhaps a contest to decide is a fair way of handling it?" Hope tried to state diplomatically.
"Yeah," Matt agreed, "Horror movies sort of lose something when they have to be explained so you can understand them. So, whoever gets the most candy chooses, even if it's not a horror movie. We could still choose a Halloween themed movie though." There had to be non-scary Halloween movies, right? He remembered then from when he was a kid.
Molly nodded quickly. "My friend Adam says they're also having a Halloween party at the high school too!"
Tandy grumbled, "You guys are no fun...." Looking down at Molly, "Go trick or treating and then the Halloween Party? Do you think we have enough hours left to do that?"
"Just cause we actually wanna sleep tonight, you know without any nightmares," Sue shot back with a grin. "Well you know it is Halloween, so we're expected to gorge ourselves on candy and stay up all night anyway. It's practically a law."
"Why don't we go trick or treating first? We still have to acquire costumes and get to the right area. Afterwards we can reevaluate what our next step should be." Hope quietly stepped up next to Matt, speaking softly so Molly could not hear. "Will they accept us there? I really do not wish to ruin Halloween for Molly."
"Should be okay," he replied. He had gone to the homecoming dance the previous weekend. "Tandy and I are known mutants, at least to those in our classes, but I doubt anything will happen," he couldn't promise it, there were jerks everywhere, but it was unlikely.
"Trick or Treating it is then." Tandy leaned over and whispered to Molly, "We'll show them how it is done."
Molly slowly smiled. "Then we can eat ALL the candy!"
It was sounding better, funner.
Sue was secretly elated that she got to go trick or treating, not that she let it show beyond a grin."Yup, well all the good candy anyway. And we can make some hot chocolate for when we watch movies later too." All her team had to do was win so Tandy didn't make them watch a horror movie.
"Hot chocolate sounds wonderful." Hope agreed. "I think we should make haste though, because we still need to assemble our costumes. Do we need to go back to the school to get your outfit, Molly?"
Molly nodded. "But we can get mine last if people need t'get theirs," she said. Maybe they COULD be Teen Titans.
"Alright," Matt said decisively, "So back to school for costings, then trick or treating for movie domination," it was a good plan.
Matt kept his arm snugly around Sue's waist as they tramped across the field where the Haunted House was back to the main road. It had been set up in a field just off the main road so it wasn't far from town, but just enough away that it seemed as if it were.
