"Don't move." The submachine gun was trained on the pair of them, but the eyes behind it were mad; crazed and fanatic. "No one hurts the Lady of Light. This is our family and I won't let you destroy it!"
"Well, found Tandy's dad. That's one off the checklist." Kane said dryly, looking at the dangerously wavering gun. "Don't supposed you're interested in just surrendering, eh?"
"If you surrender we won't have to hurt you," Scott agreed. The X-man kept his eye on Nathan's trigger finger in case it started to move, the man was more than a little unhinged and Scott didn't wanna take any chances.
"You don't have to hurt me any way, you don't have to hurt us. It doesn't matter, I won't let you do it regardless, I won't." Nathan shook his head, his trigger finger steady but his eyes were bouncing back and forth between the two other men, licking his lips nervously as he did so.
"Nathan, put the gun down. You're a smart guy. You know that this is the only way that everyone stays safe. Otherwise, someone is going to do something stupid, and someone will get hurt. Come on, man. Put it down."
Scott raised his hands and took a step back and to the side, "You know he's right," he told the ex-shield agent, "you know us, and you know we don't want to hurt you or anyone here. If you want us to leave then lets talk, I don't understand how a father could kidnap his own daughter and kill his family. How you could turn away from your country like that." Scott kept his eyes locked onto Nathan's face as he spoke, he could blast the gun, but couldn't be sure that it wouldn't go off and hurt someone. But maybe Garrison could close the distance, or Nathan would relax if he just kept the man talking and focused on him.
"Nice try, but if you want to talk, we do it right here. And I didn't, I... I never turned from my country." Nathan shook his head, lowering his gun slightly as he argued with Scott and turned more towards him than Garrison. "You're wrong, I'm doing what's right, what has to be done. I won't let you destroy her, to destroy us!"
"Nathan, you know how this has to end. You're a SHIELD agent. You run, we have to follow. And at some point, someone is going to get hurt. Maybe us. Maybe you. Maybe Tandy. It's time to think about your family, man, and put the gun down."
"We're not here to hurt anyone, or destroy anything, just the opposite we're here to make sure no-one gets hurt. Not you, not your daughter or any of the cultists. Not even her," Scott informed Nathan. "Don't let that happen," he said gesturing at Kane, "Don't let anyone else get hurt."
Licking his lips again, Nathan gazed at them both for a long second. "I want to trust you, I don't want... I don't want anyone else to get hurt." The gun in his hand lowered several inches, no longer pointing directly at either man, though he hadn't let go of it completely. "You have to promise. Swear it, swear it to me."
"Absolutely." Kane said, taking a step towards him. Once he was close enough, his arm shot out, faster than the human eye could track, and snapped the barrel of the gun in two.
"Thank you," Scott told Nathan, as he reached for his radio to inform SHIELD that they'd taken the rogue agent into custody.
There was no further movement from Nathan, who knew he was beat. He dropped the remnants of the now broken gun and waited to be taken into custody, hoping that he could trust the two men to keep their word.
