Korvus and Kurt schedule a sparring session so Korvus can get some real practice in with Nandaki.
Korvus stood patiently in the danger room, Nandaki in his right hand and arm hanging casually at his side. He rarely sparred with the gigantic sword but Kurt assured the younger man he was capable of doing so safely. The Kalari Gurukkal was also worried about damaging any room they used, having recently cut through walls, but he trusted his partner.
Kurt's own sword was a standard fencing foil, far from Nandaki's size, but he was confident it was a good enough match. He smiled reassuringly at Korvus as he stepped into the room, which today was projecting the simple hologram of a dojo. "We have the booking for an hour. More than enough, I think?"
"I am sure." Korvus agreed with a nod. "I believe you will be a particularly challenging partner with your ability to teleport. I find myself resorting to power more often than I should due to Nandaki's capabilities."
"Most people consider my teleportation cheating in a friendly fight", Kurt said with a grin. "But if a challenge is what you want, I would be happy to oblige."
Korvus laughed softly, "My capabilities are outside the range of human capability and I wield a sword capable of absorbing and shunting energy that is psychically linked to my mind. I do not believe a 'fair fight' would be possible."
"In that case, my young friend, I will not hold back with the agility. My capabilities are also well outside human range, at least in that department."
"I appreciate your willingness to challenge me." Korvus offered sincerely as he took up a combat stance. His positioning suggested a much lighter weapon than Nandaki's size indicated. Even with his strength, the weapon should be difficult to work with but it seemed effortless for the Rook'shir.
Kurt studied him clinically as he shifted into ready stance in turn. "The sword only reaches its full potential in your hand, yes?"
"For my hand, it has no weight at all." The young man confirmed before nimbly giving a short lunge and thrusting. The width of the blade made in incredibly difficult to sidestep and the oblique angle at which he held it only aggravated that fact.
Kurt nodded and then gave all his attention to the fight, bringing his own sword quickly up to parry as he moved with inhuman grace. "And in another, it would have all the weight of its size."
"Even more." Korvus corrected, raising the broad blade up defensively and shifting back as Kurt moved. He was very careful not to over-extend himself. "Nandaki knows it is meant for me. It would be beyond useless for another."
"Magic always finds ways to surprise me", he said with amusement. "But I imagine that would be a great help. No one could turn it against you, should they manage to take it."
Korvus nodded, "It offers many benefits." As if to accent his claim, he placed his left hand against the flat of the blade and presented it toward his opponent with a jerk. The blade shimmered blue for just a moment before a bolt of force fired without warning, aimed at the center of Kurt's chest.
His eyes widened fleetingly before he reacted, even with the only warning having been that brief glow, and dropped to his good knee with his head bent, placing him what should be below the bolt's trajectory, and sprang back to his feet a moment later. He knew Korvus wouldn't have done anything to really injure him, but practice was practice.
"Very useful indeed", he agreed.
The young man seemed to have progressed beyond much chatting at the moment, the bolt of force followed by a lunge. Korvus had the broad of his sword presented to Kurt like a hockey player might use a stick to check.
Kurt took that fact in at a glance, bringing his own foil up again to meet Nandaki with a rasp of metal against metal as the blades slid together.
"It may be wise to begin displaying your agility. In a clash of strength, I believe Nandaki and I are more suited toward success." Korvus offered as a friendly warning.
Kurt grinned at him and raised his sword clear in a half-salute. "Challenge accepted, young one."
A challenge is certainly what Korvus got. The more Kurt began exhibiting his agility as supplementing it with his ability to teleport, the more Korvus felt able to use his mutation safely. Their sparring languished on for nearly an hour before their scheduled time was up, neither of the men worse for the wear.
When their alarm rang, Korvus stopped promptly and offered a formal bow, sword presented in a martial style. "Thank you for helping me improve."
Kurt bowed back, mirroring Korvus' pose exactly, and nodded. "You are very welcome, and I hope I can help again in the future. At least until I am no longer challenging enough?"
Korvus moved alongside Kurt, walking out with him. "Do you expect that to be the case or are you being modest?"
"I see no reason it should not be the case, in the future", Kurt told him honestly. "I have my advantages, but you are young and healthy and I have this leg that is not what it was, you might well come to match me with practice."
"Do I not match you now?" Korvus asked with a laugh and a smile, clearly teasing Kurt a bit.
That earned him a friendly swat to the back of the head. "You yourself said I was still a challenge. Although I have to say, you were not an easy defeat either."
Korvus nodded and laughed softly, "You were. Friendly teasing is common among fellow martial arts practitioners in India."
"As it should be", Kurt said with a grin. "There is no need to make things too serious."
