Log: Matt and Sue: Ski Trip (Backdated)
Dec. 30th, 2012 12:25 pmMatt learns to Ski while Sue helps before a snowball fight and hot chocolate ensue.
It took a few minutes to get their snow gear off, but once they did, they headed over to the little cafe to order hot chocolate that neither of them had to make and then went to find a fire they could take possession of. "You are the best sighted guide," Matt said as they sat down, he folded his long legs a little so he didn't accidentally trip anyone nearby. "Skiing is awesome!"
Sue sat on the edge of the wooden fence which ran around the edge of the learners area watching the instructor giving some last minute advice to Matt. The blonde kicked her feet as she played with the florescent jackets she was holding. They kinda reminded her of those vests you wore in gym to differentiate between teams, except they were bright orange. Sue made a small face as she glanced down at them, bright orange so wasn't her colour, but at least people would be able to see them coming form some way away.
Dayglo anything wasn't the right colour for anyone. That was sort of the point. It didn't matter that Matt could use his powers on the slopes, he still had to learn how to ski as a blind skier and therefore Sue also had to learn how to be his sighted guide.
When the instructor finally let him go, Matt awkwardly slid on his skis toward Sue. "You ready?" He asked, giving her a kiss.
Sue slipped an arm around Matt's shoulders, returning the kiss before dropping lightly off the fence and onto the snow. "Yep, just give me a second," she answered brightly as she slipped into her skis. "Don't blame me if you end up in a snowdrift," she warned him with a laugh as she did up the last buckle. She'd been watching the instructor and thought she saw how this worked, but you never really knew till you tried.
"I blame you entirely," he replied, "My powers are all wonky right now with the snow. Sound doesn't bounce off snow drifts the same as it does you or a tree," snow wasn't as solid either. It was a new challenge. Matt had been in snow before, but not quite this much.
"Well no pressure then," the girl replied with a grin, "I dunno, it might be fun to see how many snow drifts we can get you into on the way down the slope. Besides I'm sure we can get a nice fire going back at the chalet to warm up your poor frozen bones afterwards."
"You are so mean, intentionally pushing your poor, blind boyfriend into the snow," Matt moaned, laughing, "You try it and we'll see how many times I can catch myself before you do. But that fire sounds good later. And hot chocolate." And snuggling in front of the fire. Perfect winter evening after skiing. "Let's go find the lift!"
"Oh no," Sue exclaimed in mock shock, "I would never do anything so crass as to actually push you into a snow drift. That would just be cruel and horrible, but if I got distracted as we were coming up to one," she laughed as she slipped her hand into Matt's and led him over in the direction of the lift. "And a nice warm blanket, and marshmallows," Sue added to the image."
"See, now you're talking my language and we're going away from the hotel!" Matt protested, but it was meant more in jest, "I am so gonna shove snow down your jacket!" He paused as the ski lift approached, then carefully sat down as he had practiced with the ski instructor. You had to time it just right.
"You wouldn't!" Sue exclaimed in shock drawing a look from the lift operator, "I can see that I'm going to have to keep a very close eye on you Mr Murdock." she said in a mock stern tone before slipping her arm around his waist and gently kicking her feet as they climber up the side of the mountain. "Think of it as an incentive, if you do well then you get to relax in front of a nice toasty fire. If you don't do so well, then you don't even want to know what will happen."
"That sounds like a challenge," Matt pointed out, "I like challenges. But I also like you in front of a fire. Decisions, decisions," he pretended to think about it carefully as they rose in the air, "What are you wearing in front of this fire?"
"I. umm...I'm wrapped up in a blanket. Can't see past that," Sue hedged. "The better question is what am I wearing in front of your fire?" she asked arching an eyebrow.
"A blanket?" Matt pouted, "That's no fun! In front of my fire? Hmmm...." that threw him for a loop."Nothing but a smile," he finally replied, smugly.
Sue just shook her head in exasperation as they started to pull in to the top of the ski lift, pulling her arm back from around Matt's waist she made sure to elbow him, in the ribs. "You wish mister."
Chuckling, he elbowed her right back, "What?" he asked, feigning innocence, "I'm blind! It's not like I'm going to stare and leer!" Nope. Just try to touch.
"Of course not," Sue returned skeptically as she glanced at the sign pointing out the way to the ski slopes. "This way," she told Matt as she moved in the direction of the beginners slope. They'd both need the practice she decided.
The beginner slopes was definitely the right place and Matt shifted his attention to not falling on his skis. "Awesome, this is going to rock!" he declared, excited. "You should go invisible and we can scare people!" Or better yet, not, but hey, it sounded fun.
"Don't worry, the minute I find a a good target to line you up to I'll be invisible and out of here," she assured her boyfriend. "I wouldn't want to get in trouble after all," she informed him with a grin
"Hey! I thought we decided against running me into things!" Matt retorted, "Because consequences are bad! And the fire and hot chocolate was good!" He laughed as they waited their turn now to start on the slopes.
"Consequences are bad," Sue replied, "but then I realized if I leave you feet up in a snow drift you're never going to be able to catch me so you can't retaliate." she explained sticking her tongue out at Matt. "Then I get all the fire and hot cocoa to myself!"
"You don't have a romantic bone in your body, do you?" he asked, a little upset. Sure, he knew Sue was joking, but he had really liked that idea! Weren't girls supposed to like that romantic stuff? "And I'll still catch you. Just wait."
"It would be pretty nice to cuddle up in front of a fire," Sue relented when she saw Matt's crestfallen face. He had to know she was teasing right? "Oh, that's fighting talk there Mister Murdock. How about when we make it to the bottom, which we're going to do in style," she grinned at Matt, "then we settle how can catch whom in a snowball fight? Loser has to make the cocoa?"
"You're on!" Matt agreed. He knew she was teasing, but at the same time...well, she was protesting so much he wondered if she really didn't want to do that. "I should warn you, I have mad snowball skills. And make terrible cocoa," well, they could order it, too and then a waiter or someone would make it. That sounded perfect.
Sue laughed, "I'm pretty sure I could burn water," she admitted. "But we should be able to find some good cocoa somewhere; just in case." Besides winning really wasn't the point of a snowball fight, it was the cuddling up afterwards that she was most looking forward to.
Matt had worried that she hadn't wanted to cuddle or something, that she was mad at him or tired of him or something like that, so this change in tone was appreciated. Now he was thinking she actually wanted to maybe be with him in front of that fire, "I am sure someone at the lodge makes cocoa. Now, you ready Sighted Guide? Because your Blind Skier wants to ski!"
Sue gestured to the slope with a smile, "Lead the way then, wait a minute, that's not how it works." She gave an exaggerated sigh, "I guess in that case you're going to have to follow me," she laughed as she pushed off down the slope

Sue giggled as she hunted down a blanket and walked over to Matt. "You're just happy you didn't crash," she replied. "Although not for lack of trying, when you almost ran into those kids." The girl couldn't help but laugh at the memory, "I still can't believe you actually dropped a snowball down the back of my jacket," the girl said accusingly as she stood over Matt mock glaring down at him. "It's lucky for you that you're so cute." Sue informed her boyfriend with a laugh as she dropped down next to him and nestled herself into his side, pulling up the blanket to cover them both as she took a sip of her cocoa. "Hey turning invisible doesn't work on me," Matt replied, wrapping an arm around her. "I can always see you," idly, he ran his fingers over her arm and back. Matt liked to touch Sue, though he tried to keep it appropriate. Teasing a lock of her hair, he took a deep breath. "You smell like the outdoors. Cold and pine and snow and warm chocolate. I like it."
"I know, but I'm sure there is a rule somewhere that says being able to sense everything is cheating in a snowball fight. You know you could have let me win on principle, to make me happy," Sue joked teasingly as she stretched contentedly under the blanket before snuggling closer to Matt and taking another sip of her hot chocolate. She was actually secretly glad he hadn't let her win, trying to sneak up on Matt was a challenge for her, but one she was enjoying trying to beat. "I'm glad you like the smell, I was worried. I mean with your nose and all, I've heard people say that pine has an overpowering smell." "It's a lot outside," he agreed, "but not too much on you. And anyways, it's so different than the city, I kinda like that difference, you know? Maybe if I smelled it all the time it'd be different," and that was a lot of different in a short time. Find another word. Clearing his throat, Matt kissed her hair, resisting the urge to keep smelling it, "I could have, but would you like that?" Sue was the better snowball maker, he was just better at getting his snowballs to hit her. It worked out alright in the end.
Sue arched an eyebrow, "So should I perhaps get some pine scented perfume, for those once in a while special occasions then?" she asked with a grin. "I'm glad you don't let me win," she assured Matt, "I like the challenge although it would be nice to beat you at something physical one in a while. You're bigger, stronger, better at sports," she listed counting each entry on her fingers with a laugh, "you can run faster and doing things like gymnastics and parkour that I couldn't even dream of doing. That's at least 5 things," she teased holding her hand up in-front of Matt's face. "However are you going to make all that up to me?"
"Basketball?" Matt offered, taking her hand and kissing it, "I'm terrible at basketball. And pretty bad at baseball. And anything else with balls, really," that was why he did gymnastics, mostly. That and he had for years, he liked it. "I also have legs that are a foot longer than yours. It's not that I run faster, it's that I can cover more ground quickly. But I happen to like you just how you are," he sort of half picked her up, half pulled Sue so she was sitting in his denim covered lap, careful not to spill their drinks. "I like how your hair feels and how you smell. I like how smart you are and how you're from New York, but a completely different part from me. I like how you don't really make a big deal out of my...past." As he spoke, he gave her little kisses on her hair and neck, hands playing with her own.
Sue twisted her hands in Matt's, happy with her new seat, it was a lot warmer than the floor had been. "You're pretty good at those snowballs" she pointed out with a laugh as she pulled one hand free from Matt's to poke him gently in the chest before resting her hand on his head and twining it through his hair. "You're not so bad yourself," she told him as she pulled her boyfriend in for a kiss. "Not quite as awesome as me, but then who could be?" she joked a grin plastered across her face before she took on a more serious expression and rested her forehead against Matt's. "You're past is just that, your past; and you are trying your best to do better. That's really all that's important."
