Kurt and Jubilee, backdated
Dec. 25th, 2012 02:54 amIn the early hours of Christmas Day, after getting her text, Kurt comes over to look after Jubilee.
"Mmm, that sounds pretty heavenly," Jubilee noted, curling around Kurt carefully in deference to her injuries but feeling more at peace than she had since the attack happened. "Would you mind if I napped for a bit? I'm kinda tired, but I don't wanna bore you to death."
"Sleep, mein herz", he encouraged her softly, thumb stroking over her cheek. "You need your rest, and I will be here to watch over you. Movies can wait until you wake."
Jubilee was ensconced on her couch and in no mood to move at all given the pain in her side and wrist, so when the knock came at the door she merely moved herself into a more comfortable position and called out.
"Come in, unless you're another assassin, if so, like, fuck off till tomorrow or something."
"You should not tempt the assassins so, liebchen", Kurt said wryly as he stepped into the room with his arms laden with bags. "As it is, I have come to take care of you."
"Maybe, but if you'd been an assassin, I figure I could've had Amanda in here pretty quickly to save my bacon," Jubilee noted with another wince as she tried once again to find a more comfortable position.
Her pain killers were wearing off, and she hated being injured, it was about as fun as a surprise math test on formula you'd never studied by a person who was trying to kill you the entire time. "So, does that mean you'll make me tea as well? I'd totally murder a good cup of green tea right now."
"If you want green tea, there shall be green tea." He studied her with worried eyes as he set his bags down next to her. "What is the damage?"
"Broken wrist, and a slice in my side that needed stitches," Jubilee responded, finally rolling off the couch and then using her good hand to hoist herself to her feet. If she wasn't able to get comfortable on the couch, she might as well watch him make tea. "Wrist is gonna take the longest to heal, but at least it's not my primary hand."
Not that she hadn't been trained into ambidexterity but she still preferred her right hand to her left, it just felt more natural.
"Small mercies", Kurt agreed, and reached out to pull her carefully into his side for the walk to the kitchen. "And a larger one is the fact that all of you survived."
"For another day at least," Jubilee agreed, allowing herself to be held as they walked, she didn't think she'd ever really get used to having people to take care of her. Although she did find herself simply accepting that it was so more and more these days. "Thanks for this, even though I know you're going to say it's fine, the fact you dropped everything to come take care of my injured butt is kinda awesome."
"You would do the same for me if time allowed", he said simply. "Possibly with a little more snark, but you would be there. Can I trust these assassins will not be a problem again?"
"Snark is how I roll," Jubilee admitted with a grin but she shrugged at his question. "I'm not sure, to be honest. A couple got away, and given that they weren't attacking us out of the kindness of their hearts, then others might come looking but I think we hurt them enough that it won't be soon. I should be telling you to stay as far away from any of us as you can, to be honest. I gotta say that I don't want to though, selfish as that is."
"For some of you, that would be something I could do", Kurt told her seriously, stopping to look her in the face. "But Amanda, Cammie, you? No. I would rather accept the danger than put you or my sisters out of my life."
"You checked in on them yet?" Jubilee asked, adjusting the sling around her neck to a more comfortable position. "Remy'll have torn Cammie a new one, and I figure Mandy wouldn't mind a visit as well right now."
"I have spoken with them both", he confirmed. "And I fully intend to spend a lot of time with them in the near future. I could have lost you all at once."
"Dangers of the job," Jubilee noted but she looped her good arm around his shoulders and leaned in for comfort. "But we won for now, mostly."
"I have always known that any one of you might not return", he agreed softly as they reached the kitchen and he began to make the tea, one handed as he wasn't letting her go just yet. "But all of you, here in your own home... but you are right, you did fight them off with no losses. All will be well, for now."
"You're a lot calmer then I'd be," Jubilee replied, allowing herself to be held as she wasn't ready to let go just yet either. "If I wasn't the one getting into trouble, I'd probably be like, a complete mess about it all. Don't deal well with being all 'sideline watching worried lass', ya know?"
"It is true I cannot see that role suiting you", Kurt said with a touch of amusement, and affection in his face as he looked down at her. "You are far more suited to action. But I... learned a long while ago that what will happen, will happen. If I know someone is missing and not safe, then I am less calm, but as it is... I knew nothing until it was over, and everyone is alive and will heal."
"Still, might have to start calling you 'zen master'," Jubilee said in response, reaching up to bring his head down for a long kiss. "Totally hot by the by, just so you know."
"Well, thank you", he answered with a grin when the kiss ended. "You can call me whatever you like. And perhaps come away with me for a while, after the holidays if your work allows? A break, for you to recuperate."
"I could do that, but where did you have in mind?" Jubilee asked, curiosity lighting in her eyes.
"Somewhere close by, in case of emergencies", he said after a moment's thought. "Within the tri-state area... but making clear neither of us will return for less than an emergency. I can find us a nice hotel for a weekend, or a week, and I will pamper you."
"I'm pretty sure that sounds like a perfect vacay," Jubilee murmured, the happy little grin she suddenly couldn't contain any longer making her feel incredibly sappy. "You up for movie watching, by the by? Not sure I'm up for long conversations tonight, but movies, tea and random convo would be welcome."
She stepped back from him and headed back to her nest of blankets on the couch, suddenly too tired to stand for a second longer. She hated
how tired a major use of her powers made her, it always felt like she was letting her mutation win, rather then using it to her advantage.
Kurt poured the boiling water into her tea, picked up the mug and followed, setting it down on the coffee table to let it steep, then snuggled into her nest with her.
"And that sounds like a perfect evening. As for the vacation... there will be a big soft bed, all you can eat, log fires if I can find a place that has them, and my very best massage skills. And time to be just Jubilee and Kurt, not Jubilee the spy and Nightcrawler."
