Maddie and Sue have some girl time in Sue's room and gossip about boys, nails and plays. Plans are are hatched to run off to a tropical island.

"Ewwwwwwww!"

The squeal was loud enough to wake the dead, or at least a sleeping roommate. Which, thanks to Layla's departure for a more European culture, Sue did not have. So Maddie did not feel bad about being so loud, nor about the fact that she was currently perched on what had been Layla's bed with her toes wiggling in the air and a bottle of Tiffany blue nail polish in her hand. "Ew ew ew! He seriously did not say that." Her voice dropped an octave. "'I want you wearing only a smile, baby'." With a shudder her voice returned to normal. "That is seriously seriously creepy."

"It was...a little uncomfortable for a moment there," Sue conceded from her position mirroring Maddie on her own bed. The blonde hadn't quite known what to make of it when the whirlwind of energy that was Madelyne Jennifer Pryor had shown up on her door waving nail polish and popcorn. " I guess I walked into that one, but I mean who just comes out and says something like that? We ended up laughing it off but still," Sue shrugged and flicked a piece of popcorn up into her mouth. "Took me more than a little by surprise."

"And it's not like you were being all super sultry and seductive." It wasn't like Sue was the fun, free, flirty type of girl like Maddie was, she was more sweet and sincere. And furthermore, it didn't sound like playful banter from the sound of it, which made it even more creepy and lecherous. Matt was a teenage guy, and teenage guys thought about sex, but as Sue said: who just says stuff like that? Seriously. She paused and gave Sue a very serious, concerned look.

"He's not pressuring you to have sex is he?"

"What?!" Sue shot upright on her bed in shock at Maddie's question. "God no, nothing like that; that's why it took me by surprise. We've done the usual making out and stuff but never anything beyond that. I'm nowhere near ready for anything like that and I'm not letting Matt, or anyone, pressure me into doing anything before I'm ready " Sue assured her friend before leaning back against her pillow. "What about you, aren't you dating what's his name from the high school?" the blonde asked tossing a piece of popcorn at Maddie's head.

Maddie issued a groan of annoyance and rolled her eyes as she recapped the bottle of polish (tightly, so as to keep it from spilling) and placed it on the floor by her discarded fuzzy bunny slippers. "I broke up with him after the whole thing with those Slendermen or whatever." She leaned forward to examine her toes; they would need another coat of polish, but that could wait a little while. "I mean, he was like really cute and everything, but we don't really have much in common. We watched The Three Stooges, Sue," she said as if it were the dumbest, most annoying thing ever. "The Three Stooges."

"I can't stand that kind of stupid 'ha ha it's so funny cause we're poking each other in the eye and we're all uncoordinated.' What's his name? Will Ferrell? And that other dude, um, Seth Rogan or whatever? Their stuff is stupid and not funny. At all. And he said that The Great Escape was boring. Can you believe that!?"

"It was never going to last long anyways. He was cute, like I said, and a pretty good kisser. But when you go through the shit that we went through, you kinda end up re-examining your life, and I just didn't want to date him any more."

"I, ahh, I'm sorry? Being kidnapped by evil...things...does tend to change your priorities just a little." Sue replied unsure of how to respond to Maddie's last statement. " There's just one thing I want to know, was he really that good a kisser? I mean how on earth did he con you into watching the Three Stooges? Nobody is cute enough to be worth putting yourself through that, well ok there are a some people maybe, but not a high school boy." the blonde allowed before checking her own nails. "How could he not like The Great Escape? Even my dad loves The Great Escape, and he never watches movies anymore."

"We were making out. Duh." Maddie reached for the bowl of popcorn and grabbed a handful as she chattered on. "It was the last thing in his DVD player so it came on. Yeah. I kinda got distracted and turned off by the stupidity. So I guess not that good of a kisser if I got distracted by a movie." She shrugged and popped a few kernels in her mouth, and further expressed her sentiments with a very dramatic eyeroll.

"Like I said," the redhead continued after she had finished the popcorn. "It's High School, hardly my One And Only, or whatever. And I have a total weakness for swimmers. Except for Michael Phelps, his face bothers me.

"So not that great a kisser with a frankly horrible taste in movies, lets face it you only really wanted him for his body," Sue teased her friend. "But I dunno, if it was a good movie then it might have been forgivable." She grinned at Maddie and helped herself to the popcorn. "No-one expects you to fall in love or anything now, it's all about just having fun. Everything else will come in its own time; no use rushing into it, you'll miss too much otherwise."

The blonde took a moment to consider Maddie's final statement, a look of deep thought plastered on her face. "Swimmer huh? I dunno they always seemed so intense to me. Now surfers on the other hand, so much more laid back."

"Have you met me? Duh I wanted him for his body." She was kidding, mostly. It totally wasn't a crime to find someone attractive. And Maddie would have been lying if she had tried to say that his body wasn't part of the reason she had been interested in the first place. Maddie laughed as she tossed several kernels of popcorn at the other girl. "And I didn't know the other the other two things before hand. That's why you date someone, to find these things out. Oh wise one."

But it was Sue's last statement (and the accompanying look) that piqued the younger girl's interest, and caused an impish smile to spread across her lips. "Surfer, eh? Sounds like Matt has some competition. You going to run away to the sun soaked beaches of some tropical island with your surfer loves where you can lounge around all day? Cause I'd totally sign up for that. We can get neighboring islands!"

"The wise one proclaimeth that that be a valid and wise reason to date." Sue replied with a laugh. "Well I have to admit it was a pretty nice body, pity the contents didn't quite measure up to the packaging for you." The blonde flopped back on her bed absently popping one of the kernels Maddie had thrown at her into her mouth.

"Totally running away to some secluded beach with all the hot surfers lavishing their attentions on me." Sue agreed echoing her friend's grin. "They can carry me around on their surfboards when I'm to tired to walk and everything. Sounds like paradise to me, when do we leave?"

"You gonna tell Matt first?" Maddie raised her eyebrows in question and reached for the bottle of blue nail polish once more. "Just running away like that is kinda rude, not many people deserve the 'Running Away Breakup.' And Matt doesn't qualify."

"We have to find our islands first," Sue pointed out, "Then we can say goodbye to all our friends and family before being whisked away for a life of fun in the sun." The blonde bent over to check her own nails, deciding to give them a few more minutes before she gave them another coat. "I'd never just run away," she stated as she settled back against the pillows, "people are bound to worry and panic, wouldn't wanna put anyone through that."

"I didn't ask about people," the redhead gave her friend a pointed look. "I asked about Matt. Twice, actually. And both times you avoided answering. About him."

"Guilty," Sue accepted with a shrug, "It's not like we're actually going to run off to a pair of islands in the middle of nowhere so Matt's got nothing to worry about. It's just a nice daydream, who wouldn't like to be waited on hand and foot by a horde of hot guys? Does Matt have anything to worry about? No, unless that is you're planning on sweeping me off my feet Miss Pryor." Sue teased her friend.

Maddie shrugged and turned her concentration to applying an even coat of polish. She worked slowly, not being someone accustomed to this manner of painting, careful not to let any drop on the borrowed bed. "You just don't seem to be as into him as he is into you," she commented. "Him making sexual comments while you aren't even thinking about sex. And that's just the beginning. You know it is."

"He is going to just get more invested and you're not going to progress beyond this point right here. I think part of you wants to break up with him, but you can't find a reason. He hasn't cheated, or acted like a huge dick and being all super-possessive and controlling of you, or whatever." Somber green eyes glanced up at the blonde's. "But there isn't always a Reason like that. You said it yourself, that it's all about having fun. And if you're feeling just sorta, I don't know, bored or like unexcited about dating him, you're not really having all that fun anymore. And you gotta ask yourself: Is being able to say you have a boyfriend really that important? You could have the same lack of excitement without one."

"Of course we wouldn't be having this conversation if I had just made out with you over you giving me that awesome offer to see the Ranger's play from a VIP box." Maddie had been so excited over that gift that words completely failed her. "It wouldn't have been fair to Matt for me to rock your world that hard. And now I am on a kissing break until after the musical; Tandy and I made a pact."

Sue took a few moments to think about Maddie's observations before she answered. "I think you're right, having a boyfriend just for the sake of having a boyfriend isn't right, no-one is going to be happy then. But now," the blonde shrugged, "Matt knows how I feel about sex and everything, it's up to him if he chooses to honor that or not. In the end he's just going a little faster than me in the relationship, but that doesn't mean we're both not moving forward. It just means that we're not in the same place right now. You can't really say that I'm not going to progress past this point here, everybody changes and grows, and their ideas about relationships grow at the same time."

Sue sat up so she could look over at Maddie, "When we first met even just looking over at Matt was enough to make me blush and break out in a severe case of mumbling, now we're making out without any embarrassment. We're still having plenty of fun," Sue assured the other girl, "especially on the skiing trip, although Matt's idea of fun does involve pouring handfuls of snow down the back of my jacket. Something for which I still haven't gotten an adequate revenge for. It was cold and wet and just plain nasty." the blonde replied with a shudder before pasting an exaggerated look of sorrow and shock onto her face.

"You and Tandy made a pact? You mean I have competition for your affections?" she asked in a dramatic tone of voice. "Maddie my love, how could you do this to me?" Sue grinned at the red-head. "How're rehearsals for the play going anyway?"

It wasn't very often that Maddie found herself bested like this; even without using her telepathy, she could usually sense what people were thinking or feeling, especially those she was close with. Then again, she also liked to uphold the belief that Sue and Matt didn't kiss. Ever. They could hold hands, but that was all. Anything more kinda grossed her out. Truthfully, Maddie thought that Sue must have been suffering from low self-esteem and desperation. He wasn't cute, at all, he was probably the most boring person she had ever met in her entire life, and, as shown by the girls' earlier conversation, he was creepy. Sue was smart and pretty, and totally out of his league.

But looking back, Maddie could recall that the Sue who had arrived all those months ago was different from the Sue who sat before her. She was more confident, vivacious now, and could more easily joke around and keep up with Maddie's own banter. "Sue," she said matter-of-factly, though there was a mischievous twinkle in her eyes. "You know my feelings for you run very deep and true, and that will never change. But to expect to keep me all to yourself and deprive others of the chance to receive the glorious gift of my affections?" The redhead shook her head sadly. "It is a cruel punishment to enforce on the world."

"Tandy and I made a pact that neither of us would engage in any health risking behavior. It would do neither of us any good to fall sick from kissing, or sharing a drink, or something careless." The light-hearted tone had returned to Maddie's voice. "Not for our sake, you understand, but for the sake of our adoring fans. Rehearsals are fine, long, sometimes difficult when we go over the same section over and over again, but fun. We laugh, joke, it's cool. I think there was some resentment that three of the leads went to kids from the mutant school, but we're winning them over with our sparkling personalities and dazzling talent. It should be a good show."

Sue nodded sagely, "It would be wrong to try to keep you all to myself but," the blonde grinned at her friend, "I can be selfish sometimes. So you're basically going to have to be really careful of everything you do? I don't know how you manage it, she admitted shaking her head, "being on guard all the time in case something health risking comes up. I'd turn into a paranoid wreck within a week."

"Sparkling personalities and dazzling talent? Didn't you say you weren't gonna turn into a diva?" Sue teased. "Although how could they not love you?" Sue knew all about resentment, not for being a mutant, she'd been spared that, but she knew exactly how people could hold onto their grudges or use any excuse to denigrate your achievements. "I really hope it turns out awesome," she said sincerely, "It sounds like you're really enjoying being part of the play."

Sue's comments about about Maddie's idiosyncratic behaviors surrounding the play were smacked away with a wave of the redhead's free hand. "Being a diva is sooooo last year," she said by way of explanation. "Besides it's not me. But yeah, the play's fun."

"You're coming to opening night right?"

"Of course, I wouldn't miss it for the world. You know wild horses and all." Sue replied with a smile. She'd been looking forward to the show ever since she'd heard about it. "Only one question you have to answer, do I bring pom-poms, a banner or just sit in the front row and cheer my head off?" she asked with a laugh.

"This is not a football game," Maddie said sternly. "It's a theatre. I would expect a young lady of your upbringing to know how to conduct yourself in such an atmosphere."

"Bah, You're no fun." Sue groused good-naturedly, "Fine I promise to behave, I'll just sit demurely in the front row and only clap or cheer when it's appropriate. Just remember, you could have had your own personal cheering section. I'll just have to borrow a camera from Angel instead."
