Unable to sleep, Logan's up early in the mansion and is paid an unexpected visit by one David North. Discussion and surprises ensue.

The world was still asleep when he pulled into the garage and hopped out of the car. Soon the sun would begin to rise and all that would change. But for now, North took to the mansion steps two at a time, rubber soles muting footfalls as his trenchcoat billowed out behind him. A minute later saw him standing in front of a door, eyeing it contemplatively for a second before raising a fist and issuing three curt raps with his knuckles. The man had probably already scented him out.

Readjusting to the time in the States sucked. He still wasn't completely back on track despite his best efforts. It's why he'd made himself a mug of coffee and was pacing the living room. He'd heard the faint slide of car tires but chalked it up to one of the adults coming in from a late night. It was the whiff of scent that told him things were gonna get interesting. He can't imagine why North would be visiting this early or who he'd even come to see. Mug in hand, Logan made his way to the door then pulled it open. "North."

“Jim,” the other man greeted solemnly, though there was a wry quirk to his lips as he pushed the door open wider to admit his smaller frame. “Welcome back, you big ugly brute. I did not think I’d be seeing again you so soon.”
Logan stepped aside to let North in. "Yeah, well, wasn't plannin' on bein' back this soon either. Didn't have much of a choice about it." He sipped from his mug. "Coffee? I got a pot in the kitchen if you want." He wasn't sure what to make of this. They'd been on decent terms before he'd left, but it still didn't warrant him this.

“No, thank you. I had a cup before I came over.” And likely had another waiting for him in the office. “I apologise for dropping in unannounced, but my early morning freed up unexpectedly and I figured that you would still be having trouble sleeping.” Given the pair’s penchant to miss each other, the spy thought it best to visit before either one of them skipped town again. He also had a boxset of DVDs to return to Sarah.

"You got that right. So what do I owe this visit to?" A number of options ran through Logan's mind though most involved Weapon X in some shape. Had he brought back the bastards chasing him to the mansion so soon? It really wasn't what any of them needed right now. He walked a little down the hallway with North. "It involve anything we don't want overheard by the kids?"

“Nothing of the sort,” the German man reassured him. Had he been any other man, David may have found Logan’s paranoia amusing. “Truthfully and frankly, I am only here to say hello and find out why you are back. Anything else that I may need to update you on, I will do through more secure channels.”

His mouth quirked slightly. The man did have a unique way of asking "why the fuck are you back?" He wouldn't have expected anything less. "Seems questions about Weapon X and Alpha Flight are as welcome over in Europe and Asia as much as they are here." He leaned back against the hallway wall. "Stirred up some unwanted attention in Europe and laid low in various Asian countries before I headed to Japan for a couple month stint. The bastards chasin' me found me again in Japan so I decided it was time I headed back to the States until the heat died down. And to save you a question, I didn't bring 'em back with me. Spent a coupla more months layin' low before makin' my way back across the Pacific."

David shrugged noncommittally. “We’ll find out soon enough whether or not you succeeded in wiping your tracks.” He picked out a couch and seated himself, running an overt gaze over the other mutant, satisfied that he pretty much looked the same since the last time they were in each other’s company. “I gather you did not manage to dig out anything else?”

He sipped his coffee and eyed North right back. He looked overworked and overtired, probably subsisting on nothin' but coffee again, but that was the usual. He damn well hoped he'd succeeded. It'd be an embarrassment if they followed him back here without at least some outside help. "Just the usual runaround from one shell corporation to another. Doesn't seem like you guys had any more luck than I did."

“Plenty of things happening around here to take our minds off of it for a while,” David conceded without a direct affirmative. Perhaps with Logan around, they could step up on the search for answers, especially given the number of informants that had been compromised during his own stint in Europe. He swallowed a sigh. Clean ups were a necessary pain that took too long and too much of a toll on the persons involved.

“Have you met Wade?”

"I gathered. Genosha almost makes Weapon X shit like a cake walk." He glanced out one of the windows at the sprawling grounds of the mansion. It all seemed so distant looking at it from here, but then that was the point. A safe oasis away from the fucked up world. He shook his head and shoved a hand into his pocket. He looked back at North and arched an eyebrow. People fucked up by the military they'd been a part of was common around here so he hadn't thought twice about it. "Yeah. Something I should know about him?"

Like many others within their community, the precognitive was not entirely fond of talking about Genosha. It was an experience best learnt from and moved on from, as far as he was concerned. “Beyond the fact that he was part of our lot? Probably the fact that he has a habit of giving expensive gifts to the many people he considers friends.” The faint smirk on David’s lips was a wry one as he relaxed back in his seat and crossed his arms across his abdomen. “Far from harmless. But I will let you figure out the rest for yourself.”

North didn't seem too pleased. So Genosha, touchy subject and one of those things that was too many levels of fucked up to be talked about even with people like North. Logan started from his lean against the wall. "Wait, what? He was Weapon X?" The shit hadn't told him that. Hadn't mentioned that at all. Canadian, militarily experimented on, he'd chalked it up to every government having fucked up rogue elements, not him tied up into the same freak show that'd created him and screwed with his head.

“Yes, and he has heard of you.” David was hardly surprised that Wade had not told him, all things considered. But given that Wade was privy to information on Logan, there was little harm done in evening out the playing field a little, even if he was caught in the potential backlash.

Logan wasn't sure if he wanted to punch Wade or throttle him for information about the program. He clenched his jaw then managed to say, "Heard? Meanin' he was in the program after us? He know anything we didn't already know?" His morning was now fucked. He wanted answers that probably weren't gonna be easy in coming, if they came at all. Story of his damn life.

“He is older than he looks,” David said simply. “Actually, Wade is older than me.” The man looked entirely unperturbed by his companion’s apparent irritation. In fact, he looked downright relaxed. “Do you honestly think I would allow such a huge stone lying at my feet to go unturned? He is after answers as much as we are. But, please, do not let that stop you from beating him up.”

"Yeah, we had a conversation about that and his fucked up healin' factor." Among other things. Why the fuck hadn't Wade told him? He ran a hand through his hair in irritation. He snorted. "No, didn't think you'd have but had to ask. So we still know shit about shit." Typical. The more they supposedly got on the program, the less they actually had. He was strongly tempted to introduce Wade to his fist. He'd sort it out later.

Another shrug. “Ja.” Even if he was already planning on putting out a feeler or five on the backlash following Logan’s escape through Asia and the Continent.

“Speaking of knowing shit about shit,” David sat up with an intent look as a past conversation caught up with him. “You have a daughter.”

Logan stared at North for a moment then blinked. Why the hell would North care about his little familial freak show? Or was he just snooping for confirmation? He thought X-Force and the school were working a little closer together than that. He'd figured all the stuff North would need for confirmation would in Laura's school medical records. The man already knew more about Logan than Logan did himself. Weren't there more pressing matters North should be concerned with anyway? It's not like Logan had any control over the shit they'd done with his DNA. As for Noriko and the whole family he evidently had in Japan...that was another bit of fuckery he still had trouble wrapping his head around. He took a sip of his coffee before replying, "You mean Kinney?"

“Yes. Never met the girl – she’s out travelling last I heard,” David added, smoothing a hand across the material of his trench coat as he glanced away and towards a window. The sun would be rising soon. “It was one of the first things I was informed of when I returned.” The German man quirked a brow and a wry smirk at his companion. “Makes one wonder what the program did with our sperm samples from clinical checks. Perhaps there are more mini-Logans running around than we know.”

So that's where she'd gotten off to. He didn't have much claim worrying about her, but it was still good to hear that she was more or less alright. Maybe he'd see if he could give her a call at some point. Logan arched an eyebrow and kept the scowl off his face. "Not a pleasant thought especially with us still in the dark about nearly everythin' the bastards did and planned to do."

“Which is precisely why you cannot blame me for thinking the thought,” came the unapologetic reply. And the program would have better reason to use Logan’s DNA than any other operative’s, really.

"I know. It just rankles." He ran a hand through his hair and gazed out the window for a moment. "Probably somethin' we should look into more than we have and keep it in mind when we encounter any other ferals." He scowled. "Be easier if we had any of the files they had on me. But then it all comes back to us havin' nothing to work with, doesn't it."

David shrugged, having nothing useful to add to that. “You have free time on your hands now. What are you going to do with it?”

"Stumpin' around lookin' for answers doesn't ever give us much to work on and any leads always dead end. Askin' Chuck to use Cerebro for what's essentially searchin' for a needle in haystack would be pointless." Logan shrugged himself. "Unless something changes, nothin' much I can do except be on the lookout for anythin' that might give us answers."

“Fair enough,” David said, fishing out his blackberry and checking the time on it. “I have to make the drive back into town soon.” He really had dropped in just to see the feral mutant for himself.

“We will meet up soon if you do not skip town the next chance you get.” A pause. “And do not kill Wade. The old man has a tendency to incite murderous rages, but people around here like him for reasons I cannot fathom.”

"Got no plans on goin' anywhere." After all the trouble he'd gone through just to make it back to the States, he wasn't planning on leaving anytime soon. Whoever was after him was probably still looking and at least here he'd have some backup when or if shit went down. Logan gave him a look. "I'll refrain from doin' so," he said dryly. He and Wade were gonna have a nice long talk.
