Adrienne brings Garrison breakfast so they can talk about what happened at Avalon, as well as fantasy baseball wagers that involve unicorn costumes.

They hadn't spoken since Magneto had found them spying on his base, and by now Adrienne was assuming this was because Garrison was angry with her, that he didn't understand why she'd done it. For her part, she had been avoiding him out of guilt. She'd tried waiting for him to come to her, hoping there was nothing to her assumption, but now she was tired of waiting; her guilt had made her want to confront him, to get everything out in the open.

"Hey, are you in there?" she called out, knocking on his suite door. She'd just finished her morning workout and was hoping to catch him before he left for work. "I have waffles! They're not even burned! They're 'hey are you mad at me for what happened on the island' waffles. I made 'I'm sorry' sad faces out of chocolate chips on them."

"Hey you." Kane said, opening the door. His arm was still bandaged, although was healing quickly. "What did I do to earn morning waffles? I thought you were avoiding me?"

"I... thought you were avoiding me," Adrienne answered, confused. "Because you thought I betrayed you and became a Brotherhood member..."

"I thought it was a ruse to try and split their attention between us. Ooh, is that real maple syrup?" He opened the door further to let her in. "I had some therapy to do with the arm, and I figured you were freaked out enough by the whole situation that you wanted a couple days to hide out and get your head straight."

"I... uhh... wha... umm, yeah, it is." Okay, reset brain. "Aw, you know that I hide when I'm freaked out," she muttered, impressed. "That's really..." Wait, reset brain again. "I mean... you knew it was a ruse? Okay, right. FBI guy. You know tactics and shit. I knew that." Oh crap, what if he thought she thought he was stupid because she didn't anticipate that he'd know it was a ruse? "I just... it's not that I didn't think you'd know it was a ruse, I guess I just felt bad about doing the ruse so I wanted to make sure we were okay about me doing the ruse."

"Can this be the part where I eat waffles and you try to explain it further without your top on? Because I was sort of hoping that would be the case."

"Uhh... sure." Not needing further encouragement, Adrienne set the waffle plates onto his coffee table and pulled her shirt off. "I felt bad about doing the ruse so I wanted to make sure we were okay about me doing the ruse," she repeated, giving him a look before she tugged her shirt back on. "Now eat your waffles." She sat on his couch and picked up a fork. "So how is the arm?"

"Adri, we were in a dangerous situation. Even if I hadn't have guessed your plan, you don't need to apologize. You've already proved to me by now that even if I don't understand at the time, I can trust you. So, I decided to do that." He grinned through a mouthful of waffles. "I'm actually kind of impressed that you took your shirt off though. I had been mostly kidding. Well, sorta. No. No, I wasn't kidding."

"I... I'm glad you trust me," Adrienne nodded. "I guess that's what I really wanted to hear, because I feel a lot better now." She'd worked damn hard, been through a hell of a lot to feel like she'd earned his trust so it did make her feel better to know he didn't question her loyalty. "Well, I just did my workout so I'm starved and need the fuel before I do any non-clothes activities," she grinned, "but I figured I'd give you a little tease. Before I came I figured you'd be going to work, but you don't look like you should be back at work yet, and I don't have a morning class, so I figure it's not mean of me or anything to give you a preview."

"So, really, this is just a clever way of determining that I'll sleep with you this morning. You rascal..." He said, polishing off his plate. "The waffles would have sealed the deal, you know."

"Good to know," she grinned, taking much longer to eat her own waffles. "I'll remember that next time. Particularly because it seems to indicate that my cooking is becoming edible. So, do you have to work today, " she inquired, "or are you going to spend it pouring over these fantasy magazines trying to figure out a strategy to beat me this year?" She spread some of the dogeared magazines that were on the coffee table out with a foot.

"I have a few more days to recoup the arm before I go back in. So, you could totally spend the day here. With me. The bed might be involved. And the kitchenette. Or the shower. I wouldn't bet against the coffee table." He got up and put his plate into the sink. "So, I was considering spending some time working on my fantasy approach. You?"

"Well, those are great scenarios, but I'm going to have to teach today, so that fantasy approach might have to wait until tonight... oh wait, we're talking about baseball, aren't we," she teased. "What are you considering working on?"

"Making a few changes to my drafting approach. Making stacking up high end starters." Garrison grinned. "You don't have to teach right away, do you?"

"I'm not done my breakfast!" Adrienne protested with a chuckle. "Down, boy. So who's on your list for high end starters? Or do you not want to tell me because you're afraid I'll thwart your approach by snapping up the guys you want?"

"Oh no. Ever since you decided that gloating rights are involved with this, you don't get my advice, beautiful. Instead, I think we should make a wager." Kane stretched out on his bed in front of her, watching her eat.

"Certainly," Adrienne responded with a smile. "I'm going to kick your ass this year, just like last year, so a wager sounds great to me. Did you have anything in mind?"

"What? Sorry, I was distracted by your breasts." Kane blinked and looked at her. "Wagers, yes. What are you willing to risk?"

Adrienne looked down at her chest with a raised eyebrow, wondering if maybe she'd just imagined putting her shirt back on, but nope, it was on. "What am I willing to risk? That's a funny question. It's almost as if you think I have any shame at all," she smirked. "As long as there's nothing illegal being done in front of the students, I'm game for anything. I think the better question is what are you willing to risk, since you're a lot more modest than I am, and this wager would be going both ways."

"We're wagering you going both ways? Because I have heard those stories about your modelling days." Kane rolled on to his back, staring at the ceiling with a smile on his face. "What was her name? The Greek girl? Any how, since we nearly died and ended up at the hands of the Brotherhood, I am feeling grateful to be alive. As a result, I am totally open to anything."

"Her name's Lili," Adrienne answered with a roll of her eyes. She found it amusing that he brought up that particular partner rather than Vanessa or Amanda, but she was glad he was happy with the mental image he seemed to have created for himself, regardless of the star of it. "Are we making a personal wager, as in one of us just has to have a better record than the other? Or are we wagering on one of us winning the whole thing?"

"Either? Both? Can there be more waffles?"

Chuckling some more, Adrienne held her plate out to him, only having eaten one waffle, the other three remaining untouched. She could grab some fruit or something to eat at her desk later. "I'm up for doing both." She went silent for a moment to try and think of wagers, but got distracted. "When did you redecorate around here?" she asked, taking in the new coffee table, the prints on the walls, and the new bed. "It looks nice. I didn't notice it before. You were too distracting."

Kane looked up from where he was shovelling more waffles into his mouth on the bed. "What are you talking about? I haven't redecorated."

"Really? I- ow!" Adrienne frowned, then winced as a searing pain knifed into her head. She put a hand up to her eyes, putting pressure on them to counter the pressure coming from behind them. But it was gone as soon as it hit, and a moment later she was blinking a few times and making a face. "Right. No, of course you didn't. It's the same as it always is. Stress," she chuckled, shaking her head wryly. "Okay, I think the loser of fantasy baseball, first of all, has to dress up in a unicorn costume for a whole day. That's step one," she suggested, with a wicked glint in her eye.

"Point of order. What unicorn costume? If I win, do I get to select the unicorn costume of my choice for you?"

"I... I think so? As long as it doesn't fall under the 'illegal in front of students' category, then yes, you can choose it. In fact, I think you're going to have to wear whatever you pick out for me, so choose wisely."

"That's ok. A skimpy top doesn't bother me." He grinned at her. "Although, if I win the pitching as well as the season, I get to take off your outfit and put the unicorn outfit on you. As slowly as I want."

"That sounds fine, but just so I'm clear, what do you mean by 'win the pitching?'" Adrienne inquired. "Also, the person who loses the series of head-to-head matches between us has to wear... two temporary tattoos of the other person's team, anywhere the winner wants to put them."

"The person with the highest number of wins between all their pitchers. And I can go with the tattoo thing. I'll enjoy you having to see a couple of Blue Jays logos over your nipples for a few days."

"And I'll enjoy knowing that Duncan and the boys are laughing their asses off at you for having a Sox tattoo on your forehead." Of course, that was the only one they'd be seeing. "What happens if one of us wins the pitching but the other ends up winning the season?"

"Good question. They get the drinks instead?"

"So then there's no undressing involved?" Adrienne questioned. The businesswoman wanted to be sure she had the terms correctly in her head, to go with the mental notes she was taking. "Also, are we declaring a prize that one of us has to give the other if one of us wins the league?" So far they had wagers for winning against each other directly and for who had the better record between themselves for the season, but they hadn't mentioned what happened if one of them won the entire league.

"That's a good question. What do you think we should do?"

Adrienne scoffed at him. "Oh no. Your turn. I thought of the other two wagers. Time for you to start pulling your weight in this relationship and think of some way to exploit or humiliate each other," she teased.

"Last time I suggested something, you said it would end up hurting your jaw eventually." Kane countered with a laugh.

"Well, if it's a reward at the end of a long season, I'm willing to risk it. Of course, I'm going to be winning so I don't need to worry about hurting my jaw, I don't think," she answered with a raised eyebrow, sashaying into the kitchen and returning with two glasses of orange juice.

"You sure you can't blow off class today? Stay here for a few hours?" Kane said, suddenly serious as he propped himself up on one elbow to watch her.

"Uhh... I probably could, yeah. Might as well let the sub finish off the week. Why, is everything okay?" she asked, noticing his serious tone.

"Considering the dozens of times last week I almost lost you, not really. We got lucky, Adri. Really lucky. Lucky enough that I can't stop thinking about what should have happened to us. To you. And that scares me."

Adrienne drank her juice and flopped down next to him on the bed, texting the sub and stroking his arm reassuringly. "Don't think like that," she urged. "You'll go insane if you think about what should have happened. Believe me, I know. Besides," she smirked, giving him a playful punch on the arm she'd been stroking, "luck had nothing to do with it. It was all me being awesome."

"Thank you for entirely ruining my honesty." Kane said wryly, digging his fingers into her side and tickling her. "Here I am, emotionally bare, and you make jokes!"

With a squeal Adrienne reached over for his pillow and hit him with it to try and get the tickling to stop. "Would it help if I showed my appreciation for your emotional nakedness by getting both of us naked and trying that sore jaw thing?" she inquired helpfully.

"Alright. This time I'll let you off easy." Kane said, pulling her next to him for a kiss. He'd never admit it, but the sex wasn't even necessary. He just wanted to feel her in his arms, remind him that she was real, here and safe.
