Tandy visits Adrienne in the medlab the morning after yesterdays events.
Tandy peeked her head into the room, "Adrienne?" The blonde teenager saw her guardian and held up a picnic basket. "I come with foods. I won't get kicked out will I?"
"Wow. You actually brought a picnic basket." Adrienne's eyes widened as she saw it, and she broke out into a wide grin. "I love you so much right now," she beamed, patting a space on the bed she created by scooting over. "Whaddja bring me?"
"Well seeing as Wade is going to bring some lunch for you, I went with some fruits, water, yogurt, breakfast stuff." Walking in and put the basket on the bed and sat down next to her. "You okay?"
Adrienne nodded in approval at the contents of the basket. "I'm okay, yeah. Still kind of exhausted, but no more headaches. And I haven't accidentally Read my sheets or pyjamas or pillow or anything so far, so that's nice," she smiled. "But Haller says it might take a while before I start to really see changes in my powers based on what he did when he went inside my head, so I'm still waiting for that." She poked Tandy in the arm. "How are you?"
"What did he do to your mind?" The teen asked curious to know what was in store for Adrienne. "A little freaked out...you said things to me and Sue last night that...how do I put this." Looking away from Adrienne to think. "You said you saw me, Sue and Clint doing the...thing." Wow that was a lot harder to say then she thought, "I just want to know so I can put Sue's mind at rest. And Clint. Cause I told him. And me."
"He cleaned it up. It's kind of a long story," she shrugged, not wanting to get into what exactly had happened with her Readings and her memory, at least before she answered Tandy's question about the threesome. Chuckling, she hooked an arm around Tandy's neck and pulled her in for a quick hug. "I'm sorry about that." She was still really hoping it wasn't a future Reading, but figured it was a safe enough bet to tell Tandy it was just completely wrong and that there was no way it was ever going to happen. Really, she didn't know if it ever would, since there was always the possibility that Adrienne's having put it into their heads would bring it about, but Tandy had been through a hell of a lot lately, and Adrienne remembered how upset she'd been with the accusation, so if Tandy said she was freaked out, she wanted to put Tandy's mind at ease. "It wasn't real. It was an old scene I'd Read once, that I didn't even remember Reading. I think I Read it when I was a teenager. But the bottom line is, I Read it on a different couch. Not a mansion couch. My brain just put that scene I saw on a different couch into my head when I put my hand on the mansion couch. So I wasn't seeing you, or anyone I know, actually."
Tandy remembered to breath and nodded, "So you didn't actually see our faces." Tandy closed her eyes and pushed the mental image out of her head, "Okay I am good. I am good. And I am glad you are okay."
Adrienne shook her head. "Nope, no faces. You can dial back the trauma," she chuckled again, digging into the basket and pulling out some strawberries and grapes. "And yeah, I'm going to be okay. No more old Readings leaking into what I'm seeing in front of my face."
"Oh good. Glad to have set that right." Tandy smiled weakly, and stole a grape from Adrienne's hand. "How do you know it won't happen again?"
"Hey, get your own grapes!" Adrienne teased, swatting at Tandy's hand. She sobered up with Tandy's question, though. "I don't. That was one of Haller's concerns. What happened," she explained, "was that because everything I Read with my powers stays in my memory, all those memories, even though a lot of them were just junk from objects I'd Read accidentally, filled up my memory and they were overflowing into the rest of my mind, so they were making me see things that weren't there. Haller cleaned up the junk, but unless some things change, my memory and my mind will just get filled up with this junk again, as time goes on. So I need to either find a way to change how my powers work, so that I don't automatically store everything I Read in my memory... or else I need to make sure I clean things up in there regularly." Except she didn't actually know how to access her mindscape right now unless she was unconscious. But she didn't mention that part. "But, luckily, my sister is one of the most powerful telepaths in the world. And a couple of the other ones are my friends," she smiled. "So we're going to figure something out to make sure this doesn't happen again."
"Too late" Popping the grape into her mouth. "I never met your sister. But again I am glad you are going to figure something out, cause yeah...no more surprises like last night." She reached over at the basket and grabbed an orange.
Adrienne pulled a bottle of water from the basket and took a long pull from it. "Apparently cleaning out twenty-five years of junk inside your own head is sort of like running a marathon," she murmured, rolling her eyes. She'd been absolutely exhausted last night when she'd woken up, but now that she'd slept the whole night through- something she rarely, if ever, did- she was mostly just hungry. "Any nightmares last night without me, or were you okay?" she asked.
Tandy shook her head no, "No nightmares. I hanged out with Clint and feel asleep on his couch. I dreamt about nothing...for the first time in a long time now that I think about it."
"Hung out," Adrienne corrected absentmindedly as she ate a strawberry. "That's great," she smiled. "So you really don't mind the delay in the trip?" she asked, making a face. She still felt bad about it, but Jean was adamant that she not fly for a couple days, in case she had another seizure.
"I though you were a Math teacher." Tandy smirked at Adrienne. "I don't mind. I really don't. I haven't even packed yet believe it or not."
"Gee, that surprises me," Adrienne scoffed, flicking a grape at Tandy. "And yeah, I'm a Math teacher, but I also used to run a modelling agency, so correcting people who are my responsibility who I'm worried might make me look bad is second nature to me," she teased.
"You are wasting grapes." Tandy picked it up as it fell upon the bed and put it into her mouth. "Wasteful. Okay fair enough on the whole 'making you look bad'. Just don't waste grapes okay?" Sticking her tongue at Adrienne in a playful manner.
The only response Adrienne had to that was to throw more grapes, lobbing another four or five at Tandy and sticking her tongue out in return.
