Or, Dodson's Very Bad, No Good Day

The casino had erupted into chaos, with security moving rapidly to the main floor, while some of the more alert punters began to notice the rapidly changing situation and their confusion began to spill over into the other gamblers.

The team moved out on Doug's mark.

This was a bad plan, relying on brute force and misdirection. It was the equivalent of setting the building on fire to sneak into the back door. But there wasn't time to properly plan and recon the place. So it was a question of maximizing luck ahead of everything else.

"North, de security door is yours."

Acknowledging the command with a sharp nod that Remy may or may not have seen, the spy advanced and examined the security system on the door. Desperate measures would see him putting a bullet through it, but their luck seemed to be holding just then. Extracting a thin and flat piece of clear plastic from the inseam of his belt, North slipped it between the doorjamb and the door and waited for the telling pressure of the locking mechanism to hit. He pushed the door open a minute later, keeping the door latch depressed with the plastic slip.

“Jubilation, I’ll need to borrow your gum.”

"Remind me to start charging you for this stuff," Jubilee replied but handed over the gum she'd been chewing without further protest, watching as he used it to stick the plastic in place. "Dude, nice solution."

Straightening from his crouch, North quirked his lips at her and wiped his now faintly sticky fingers on his coat. He gestured them in. “We might have company, best be careful.”

Remy motioned Jubilee down the first hallway. "Check de junction and meet us at de office door." If security was tipped, Jubilee would be responsible for making as big a noise as possible and drawing them off. There was nothing like an indoor fireworks show to draw off attention.

He and North continued down, stopping at a second security door, this one locked with a card reader. But Remy pulled the cover off the reader and followed the lines up to the junction and touched it with his finger. The kinetic charge ran up the wires, burning out the mechanisms in an instant and neutralizing the alarm. He pushed the door open and waved North through.

Jubilee for her part had quickly moved down the hallway Remy had pointed her toward, gaze moving with practiced ease over her surrounding area, not so focused as to miss, say, an enemy, but enough to see the security camera at the end of the hallway that was rapidly moving its arc toward her position. She pulled out a set of gecko gloves that Forge had sent her in the mail as a Christmas present and pulled them on before using them to climb her way up the wall and onto the roof, hanging for a moment before working her way slowly toward the camera.

A loud shout and a muted thud caused North to pause mid step and glance back toward the direction they had come from, one hand reaching instinctively for a gun as he listened intently for further sounds of a struggle or an impending attack. He relaxed a moment later and took a swift time check against the vision in his head.

"She seems fine. Office is further up on this corridor," he said, turning slightly to face Remy. "It is pretty crowded in there."

"Body count we can do wit'out." Remy took a look down the hallway and considered their options. Security was tight enough that even a regular distraction like a fire alarm wouldn't help. "I can get dere attention. You think dat you can neutralize dem long enough to lock it down?"

“That depends.” North cocked his head to the side. “Dodson is in the office.”

Jubilee had spent the last few minutes disabling the security camera in such a way as to seem seamless to whoever might be watching the footage only to be surprised by a guard coming around the corner. She was, if one were to use fancy sounding words, somewhat affronted by this turn of events.

"Dude, like, you couldn't have come by just a few minutes later? You totally deserved that kick to the head, just saying."

She nudged the currently unconscious figure, making sure she wasn't about to suddenly get up and argue the point before looking about for somewhere to restrain her. If she left this guard at their back without being restrained in some way, it wouldn't exactly be smart. Unfortunately, she appeared to have chosen the one place that was basically corridor between other places and completely lacking in anything resembling a room with a lockable door.

"Some days I really fucking hate my job," Jubilee muttered as she pulled her knife out and sliced up the woman's shirt, using the resultant strips to make a crude gag and restraints before dragging the body around the corner into a less visible position. She was going to have to tell Remy and North they were going to get more company then they were expecting, much sooner then they'd expected it. "And just think, I never thought knowing how to tie a dozen knots would come in handy."

Remy took a look back, but Jubilee wasn't there. She'd have to be the rear guard today. Moving up, he reached out and touched the edges of the door. A faint purple glow started to outline it, and he waved North back.
"In three, two... one." He stopped and touched the door with one finger. The kinetic charged edges flared, and the door exploded inward like a flashbang. Inside, the sudden wash of light and noise drove them to their knees, giving them a stunned moment to take advantage of.

North dove into the fray right beside Remy, knocking out the guards nearest to the door with well-placed hits to the back of each neck before they could regain their bearings. The office was large, but not quite large enough that he could not disarm the two men furthest from the door before they could do more than lower the safety hammer on their handguns. Knocking them to the floor with the butt of their firearms, the spy leapt forward in a tuck and roll, coming up behind the desk with the precision of someone who could tell the future.
One cold hard gun barrel was levelled against the office owner’s neck, the marksman’s grip steady as he called the remaining guards to a halt.

The woman squeaked in terror, whites showing all around her eyes and she began to shake. The security, all still dressed in their heats costumes responded to training and stopped fighting, slowly, carefully lowering their guns to the floor. "Let her go," said one of the few still standing. One of the others made to move closer to the woman and stopped, suddenly, at the glare levelled at him.

"Look, we don't want a nasty situation or anything silly to happen," said the first guard and rose red panels on the walls snapped open at the code word to reveal guns which pointed unerringly at the invaders.

Jubilee had been about to head into the room after having stashed the guard only to hear the click of several guns being cocked - which was basically her cue to make a lot of noise. "And then there's some days I really, really love my job," she muttered to herself, sending several bursts of fireworks above the heads of the guards as she tumbled into the room. "Reach for the sky!"

The guards complied. The automatic weapons system, however, continued to target the invaders. "We can turn it off," one said nervously. "Let us go and we'll turn it off. Otherwise it takes out everything in the room."

What was the use of a security system that blew up even the person it was designed to protect? North arched a brow, but nodded once at Remy. “He can do it.”

"Let de man work." Remy said, backing up North's assertion that he could override the automatic targeting system. Dodson made a look like she was going to sneak off, and Remy's look froze her on the spot. "And you, where is Arcade's database. Lie to me, and de Chinese girl is going to kill de guard on de left and cripple de one next to him for life. Dat's de warning."

Dodson shook her head. "You've broken into my casino, threatened my guards and now, you expect me to co-operate? For fear of a girl who weighs 90 pounds soaking wet? What's she going to do? Swear at us?"

Jubilee allowed her entire hand and arm to engulf in multi-coloured plasma that sparked and popped as she moved it to swirl in a lazy circle above her head. "You ever see someone get their hand blown off by fireworks? This isn't nearly as pleasant as that."

"Dat's enough." Remy cut Jubilee off. "We can play dis out, or you can believe dat we're willing to ensure dat you spend de rest of you life in a wheelchair needing medical attention just so you can eat. Dis isn't a threat, Dodson. It's a countdown, and you have five seconds left."

She looked to have made a quick decision. "It's in the safe. Combination is 2872253. Tell my ex that he's a jerk."

“I am sure he is already well aware of that,” North replied unapologetically, lowering the handgun once he was sure that his colleagues would keep her in line. He turned to a panel on the wall behind the desk and pushed it open to reveal the grey metal of a safe. A minute later, the door swung open to reveal bundles of cash, several velvet drawstring bags… and a black, inconspicuous hard drive, which was promptly slipped into the inner pocket of North’s coat.

Jubilee kept the heat on while North worked, albiet without the snappy quips as per Remy's order. Her eyes tracked each of the people in the room, ready for any divination or wrong move that would mean a fight.

"Dat's enough, Jubilee. Pack it in." Remy said. "We're going to leave now. I've got people still in de building. You try and call in reinforcements, and we'll bring dis place down around you head. As for you ex, de only one dat's going to be talking to him is you. Oh, and if you ever get it in you head to come after de boy, de next video of you dat gets spread around de internet will be you autopsy." Remy motioned them out. "Have a good evening."
