Maddie and Sue spend some time catching up at the Cast Party, which basically amounts to playing with Sue's curls.
"Okay. So. I don't have exactly your drink." Maddie flopped down on the mound of pillows she had gathered for the very purpose of sitting upon, holding two red Solo cups aloft to prevent their contents from splashing out with the rapid descent. She offered one cup to her companion. "You are such a high maintenance drinker. So you are going to make do with vodka, cranberry juice, orange juice, uh... squeeze of lemon and lime, and vodka." She paused and tried to run through all the liquids she had poured into the cup. No, that was it. Damn she was good.
"I call it a Crunk Cosmopolitan. Cheers."
"Well darling I wouldn't want to make it easy on you would I?" Sue asked putting on her best fake British accent as the accepted the cup and looked uncertainly at the liquid inside. "That's...certainly a lot of ingredients," the blonde commented as she took a sniff, it actually smelled pretty good. Well Maddie had never done her wrong before. "Your health and an awesome play," she toasted knocked her cup against Maddie's before taking a sip. "This is actually really good!"
Maddie snorted in laughter at Sue's enthusiasm as she sipped her own drink. "It's the vodka," she stage-whispered conspiratorially. With eyebrows raised to accentuate the factful factness of her statement, the redhead nodded as she helped herself to more of her beverage. "Now enough about that. Look at your hair!" Her voice was perhaps a tad too loud for being indoors, but the music from the television and the general cacophony of people talking masked this fact, or at least allowed Maddie to blend in. The squeal of delight that followed caused a few heads to turn, but the teen paid them no heed, and focused instead on reaching out and scrunching a handful of blonde curls.
"I mean I know I told you I loved it, but I LOVE it!"
Sue giggle as she shifted closer to Maddie on the pillows, turning her head to look at the other girl. "You really think it looks good?" she asked wrapping a strand of hair around her finger. "The models looked really nice in the pictures, and I think it turned out pretty well. Besides, I just love how it feels all bouncy and airy." As she spoke Sue shook her head for emphasis letting her hair bounce up and spray out a little before grinning at Maddie through the now disarrayed hair that fell across her face.
The redhead laughed jovially, with no attempt to stifle her volume as to not disturb the other people in the room. "You look like Cousin It," she teased. Her cup was deposited on the ground nearby, close enough to reach, but still far enough away that she wouldn't accidentally knock it over, before Maddie scooted closer so that their sides were touching. Not only would this conspiratorial position allow them to hear the other girl now that someone had turned up the volume on the television, but it facilitated the younger girl's action of raising her hands to push back the stray curls. "Here."
And then give all of Sue's hair a good shake, sending into a further state of disarray.
"Cousin It? Awww Maddie, you always say the sweetest things?" Sue replied with a laugh which rapidly turned into a shriek at Maddie's attack on her hair. "Maddie!" the blond glared at her friend from beneath her now completely messed up hair. Sue could only hold the façade of anger before a smile started twitching at the edges of her mouth. "You're a evil evil person, you know that right?" she teased as she gave up the fight and a smile blossomed on her face.
Maddie ran her fingers through hair, deftly untangling curls and smoothing them back in place. "So I know this was like weeks ago," she began as she continued to right her (hilarious though admittedly) wrong. "But we never really got to talk after the March Madness party. What'd you think of Clay?"
Sue took a sip of her drink and closed her eyes as she let herself sink deeper into the mound of pillows with a sigh of contentment. It almost felt like being back at the salon, "He was nice, and you were right really cute." she told her friend. "I had a good time, thanks for dragging me out that night Maddie."
"That's what friends are for." The younger girl followed in her own descent onto the pillows, her fingers continued to dance over Sue's scalp as Maddie toyed with the blonde curls. Combing through them, wrapping a tendril around her index finger then allowing it to slip off, gently pulling a single curl straight then releasing it, all of it was soothing and mesmerizing. If asked, the redhead would readily admit her jealousy over her friend's hairdo; curls never seemed to stay in her own hair, except with an ozone dissolving amount of Aqua Net. At the most her hair was wavy, which was pretty an all, but nearly as much fun to play with. Which was why she was perfectly content to lay there, propped up by one arm, and play with Sue's curls.
As much fun as the entire production had been, Maddie was glad it was over. She had spent far too much time with all of these people, and while she loved them all, a break was much needed. All of those hours rehearsing, that was the easy part, the real exhaustion of being around people had come from the drama backstage. The gossip about two girls who liked the same guy, rumors that someone had been caught smoking pot and that's why they left the play, arguments over waterbottles and spots in the dressing rooms. Exhausting. It had been far too long since she had been able to just sit back and relax, including tonight. The beginning of the party had included much in the way of hugging and congratulating other members of the cast and crew, mingling and chatting with everyone, swapping stories and laughing at shared memories gathered over the past few months. All she wanted to do was change into a pair of sweats and a hoodie, and settle down in front of the TV with a bowl of popcorn to catch up on "The Walking Dead."
Then someone had announced they had a rough copy of their recorded performance, and Maddie had fled with Sue to the corner of the room to escape the crowd. And to spare herself the embarrassment of listening and watching herself.
"Mmmm," Sue let out a sound of contentment as she squirmed on the pillows shifting herself into a more comfortable position. "That feels really nice," she told her friend as she settled down into new position. The blonde idly started playing with the end of Maddie's ponytail, tangling her fingers through the red head's hair. "I love what they did with your hair for the play. The waves look really good on you, except..." Sue trailed off and stared at Maddie for a moment. With a grin Sue reached up and pulled away the hairtie holding Maddie's hair up in the ponytail letting the hair drop freely down around her shoulder. "Much better," she commented, "you look really pretty with your hair like that Mads."
Maddie ran her hand through her own hair, brushing out the indentation from the hairtie and soothing her scalp now that it was no longer pulled tight. She snorted in response and shook her head, her fingers returning to their previous activity, but the smile on her face betrayed any annoyance she might have been trying to hide as she leaned in and pressed her lips against Sue's.
Sue's eye's shot wide open and her hands reflexively moved down to push Maddie away...and stopped, just resting against the other girl. Her surprise at Maddie's actions had temporarily driven all coherent thought out of Sue's mind and without realizing it the blonde found herself closing her eyes and leaning into the kiss. Sue's hands went from pushing against Maddie to holding her lightly, the muscles of her arms relaxing as her intention of pushing Maddie away evaporated into the wind.
The kiss had been born out of the many flashes of curiosity as to what kissing Sue would be like. Flashes that had occurred during moments like these, when she had Sue had been laughing and flirting and having fun. And the only way to find out the answer to her wonderings was for Maddie to kiss Sue. Which she had. And that was to be that. But then Sue had began to kiss her back, and her hand came to rest lightly on the redhead's side. It was pleasant, lounging there, the fingers of her one hand disappearing into those soft blonde curls, and Sue's equally soft lips against hers. More than pleasant, really. Enjoyable. Not what Maddie had imagined, perhaps, but definitely a nice surprise.
Just as Maddie was shifting her body closer to deepen the kiss, the soft sound of buzzing and the accompanying vibrations against her skin notified the teen that she had a text message. She broke the contact with the other girl so that she could sit up and retrieve the phone from her pocket to read the message.
"Looks like our coach is here to take us back to the mansion," she informed Sue after she shoved the device back into her pocket. With a groan Maddie managed to stand and stretch out the muscles that had fallen asleep over the course of their lounging. "Come on Cinderella," she offered Sue her hand, "we need to get going before you turn into a pumpkin."
"Okay. So. I don't have exactly your drink."
