Molly helps Matt get ready for prom

Matt had been fitted and ordered a tuxedo from the rental shop a few weeks earlier and it hung on a hanger on his door as he got ready to go. He was freshly showered and shaved, not that he had all that much to shave yet, clad in boxers and his undershirt. "Okay, Molly," he said to his official dresser and stylist, "make me look good. Hope'll look better, but I need to at least try."

"Pssh, you're gonna look awesome," Molly said with a grin as she reached for a bottle of something from the large array of hair stuff that she'd strung across the table.

"You're okay with me making your hair spikey?"

"Absolutely not!" Matt replied, shocked. "I said classy, Molly! Not....punk rock screamer!" His hair was too long to spike anyways. At least he thought so.

"Punk rock is cool,' Molly said with a matter of fact nod. Rocking back and forth on her heels, she surveyed her tools. She liked to wear hats so she didn't really worry much about her hair, or any one else's really. Hats covered up hair. But when Matt asked she wanted to help.

"Not for prom," well, maybe for prom if that was his usual style, but his usual style was jeans and tshirts and forget about it. So, not punk rock. "I dunno," he smoothed his hair down with his palms. "Maybe I should've gotten a hair cut," too late now.

"Some of the boys at school wear their hair like that....Long hair is good too, though! My friend Adam wears his hair like that too. Hmmm...." Molly said, circling him as she tilted her head thoughtfully.

"If we add enough stuff then it won't get all fuzzy if it gets windy. Okay, here goes!"

Squirting a silver dollar sized portion of clear hair gel in her hand, she took to his head, smoothing down the sticky uppy bits.

That worked for him. Matt just wanted to look nice for the night so if that meant making his hair lay flat in a pony tail, he was okay with it. "Perfect," he agreed, reaching up to feel what she did. Mirrors were useless to Matt. "So I look swanky, right? Or at least, more so?"

Molly's eyes widened. "What? No!" she said. "You look nice."

"Uh, yeah," Matt replied, confused. That was what he'd said. "Exactly. I want to look good."

Tilting her head, Molly stepped back. "But you shouldn't be skanky. That's bad."

"Huh, nono!" Matt laughed and went to pull on his pants. "'Swanky' means fancy and awesome. Skanky means trashy and gross," he explained to Molly. "I'm taking Hope to prom, so I gotta look all classy and shit. Not like I'm a foster kid from Hell's Kitchen. Which is why you're here to make sure my hair looks nice and my tie's not crooked or whatever."

Still a bit puzzled, Molly scrunched her nose. "Ohh. They shouldn't make words that mean opposite things so close to one another," she said, then studied him a moment.

"Just cause you're a foster kid from Hell's Kitchen doesn't mean you don't look nice."

"Good," Matt plucked Molly's hat from her head and then ruffled her hair. "Don't wait up for me, kidbit. I doubt I'm gonna get lucky, but I plan on enjoying myself and getting home ridiculously late." There had to be several after-prom parties or something going on. Or they could get breakfast. Whatever.

"Get luck---?" Molly's eyes widened. "Ew!" she said, making a face as she twitched, waving her hands around frantically.

"Ew. Ew! No no no, Matty. I don't want to think about that!"

Laughing, Matt buttoned his shirt and handed Molly his tie. It was a clip around, but he still wanted it straight. "I do," he teased, more to be lewd than serious, "But alas and woe. Not tonight."

Molly's made a face. "Bleh. Ewww!" she said, whacking him in the arm (gently). "You're SO gross!"

She fiddled with the tie before finding a good place to clip it, then smoothed it out. "And good. Because ew."

"You know, one day you won't say 'ew.'" Matt pointed out, sticking out his tongue. "Alright, how do I look? Presentable? Sexy? Lickable?" Okay, now he was being ridiculous.

"That's not today!" she said, then her eyes widened again and she covered her mouth with her hands, letting out a loud squeal before she whacked him a few more times.

"Ohmygosh ewnoewI'mgonnagoawaynow!"

Laughing, Matt stopped teasing her. For now. "Fine. Am I presentable? More than presentable?"

Molly peered at him suspiciously for a moment, then relaxed and grabbed some hair spray. "Wait! Hold your breath now," she said, then started spraying his hair with the hairspray as well. The sticky uppy bits had no chance.

"Done!" she announced, spreading her arms wide like 'tada!'

"You're good!"

Ugh. Hairspray smelled gross. "Thanks..." Matt wasn't entirely sure if he was being sincere or sarcastic after the hairspray. At least she had warned him to hold his breath when she did it. "I appreciate it, Mols. I'll make sure you're gorgeous when you go to prom if you want."

Molly smiled. "Really? Okay!" she said, then tilted her head.

"Are you okay? You look like you're gonna throw up."

"Yeah, fine," Matt assured her, moving to get away from the strongest hairspray smell, "How do you stand that stuff? It's gross!"

"I don't wear hairspray. I have hats. They're cooler," Molly said, peering at the can to see if she could figure out what made people like it. Maybe it said it on the can.

"I borrowed this stuff from the other girls."

Ah. Well. Still smelled awful. "Stick with your hats," Matt agreed. "I usually just use water to slick my hair down. This will probably keep it down better."

Reaching out, Molly gently poked his hair. It made a crinkly noise. "It's all...crunchy now."

Patting his hair carefully, Matt slipped his jacket on and made sure he had everything so he could go. It was nearly time to meet Hope downstairs. "Well....then it's crunchy. Not too many touch my hair so no one will know," hopefully. Oh well. "It'll come out if I shower, right?"

Blinking, Molly tilted her head,. "Uh....I guess?" she offered helpfully. The girls used the stuff and their hair didn't look crinkly if they used it all the time.

Molly had to remember that he couldn't see the other girls hair to have an idea and didn't usually go running his hands through it either. Girls tended not to like it when guys messed their hair up, even unintentionally. "Okay, well. Thanks. I'll let you know how it goes then."

"It'll go great!" Molly said, nodding quickly with a broad grin. Hope seemed nice anyway so they'd have a fun time. She wasn't really old enough to go to Salem Center's prom but they still had the one at the school. Maybe they'd let her wear a hat to it. Like a top hat!

Giving her a hug, Matt headed out. It was going to go great. He could feel it!
