Sam and Angel take to the skies for some good old-fashioned flying fun.

Things had been pretty complicated lately, and Sam often found himself longing for something simple. So when he'd bumped into Angel earlier in the day the idea of just going flying for no other reason than to just get outside and away from everything and (nearly) everyone was an organic, unbidden one that was too perfect not to proffer.

Once he'd changed into something better for the occasion, he'd met her outside and they just took off into the wild blue yonder. Sam had strapped on his favourite goggles and his cowboy boots, and he was pleasantly surprised at just how relaxing it was.

"Hey, havin' fun over there?" he called out to Angel with a grin.

Angel had been entirely thrilled when Sam had suggested flying. It had been a while since she'd gone up just for fun, and it was honestly wonderful. She laughed as she kicked up a little further and pulled off a loop, just because she could. "Definitely!" She called back, spreading her arms out and doing a poor imitation of a bird. She needed to do this more often.

He chuckled at her actions, mimicking her frivolity by fishtailing back and forth a little himself. "It's a great day for it, totally. Nothin' like a bit of fresh air for what ails you, right?" Turning over, he flew upside down for a while, hands folded behind his head as he looked upwards. "I definitely need this. Thanks for coming with, Angel."

"Thanks for inviting me," Angel returned with a grin, flipping to imitate him for a moment, but the blood quickly rushed to her head. She was red-faced and giggling as she flipped right side up again. "Something ailing you?"

"Of course, any time. We should do this more often." Actually getting outside and airborne for the first time in ages was great incentive to do so again, and having good company was always a plus. "Nah, nothing serious. Well, nothing bad, anyway. Just... things can be complicated sometimes, y'know? And this, this is nice an' simple."

"I'd be up for that," Angel agreed, laying herself out flat, the way she would if she were in water and tucking her arms under her head, drifting along the thermals. She felt like she didn't get out nearly enough anymore. "We live at Xavier's, 'things can be complicated sometimes' is basically our motto. Not one I'd put on the school crest or anything, but you know."

"What's that in Latin, I wonder? Probably too long to fit on a crest, yeah, but it'd be appropriate." Sam barrelrolled underneath Angel playfully, popping up on the other side of his former pupil. "It's true, I really shouldn't expect anything different, but still. It's nice to simplify things from time to time, and this is just what the doctor ordered." He realized he'd been rambling on about himself for the last little while, so he tried to change the subject. "So hey, how are things with you going?"

Years of swimming instincts kicked in as Sam flew under her, and she jerked and rolled, half expecting him to pop up and grab her. "Uh...dunno, languages aren't my thing. I should ask Doug sometime though." Back to "laying" on her back, she tucked her hands under her arms and grinned. "I'm good. Still getting used to it being summer. I don't know what to do with myself anymore."

While he regarded Angel as almost another little sister, and he'd totally have done something like that to one of his sisters, the teacher / student foundation he'd built with Angel kept him from doing anything like that, even if it would've just been in jest. "Ahh, yeah, it takes awhile to sink in sometimes." Truth be told it was only sinking in for Sam lately, but he was enjoying it. "You don't always need to have something to do, though. Maybe a vacation or something is in order, lord knows you work hard enough to deserve one."

Angel wouldn't have really minded. She probably would have just giggled and started planning her revenge. "Mmm, might be nice. Not that I don't love the mansion but a change of scenery, yeah?" Catseye had brought up the road trip again, maybe she'd hit her up about that, see where she wanted to go. It'd be fun.

"Exactly, everyone needs that now and then." He'd been thinking he might need the same, but for now that could wait. Sam had been spending time with Tabby and, well, he didn't want to disappear in the middle of that. "Trust me, it's much easier to do that kinda thing when you're younger and not tied down with work and whatnot, heh." So sayeth Old Man Guthrie.

"Words of wisdom from Mr. G," Angel said with a smile. "I should, though. You know next year's my last year of college." She'd been trying not to think about it too much, but there it was. This was probably her last summer to be stupid and crazy.

"There you go, best to take advantage of the summer while you can then. Get out there, see the world, sow your wild o- er, well, do some fun stuff." He pointed to a cloud formation, off in the distance, which looked sort of like a giant 'X' to Sam. "Like racin', that's fun. Race you to the big 'X' over there! Go!" He chuckled as he bolted towards the target, cheating just a little bit but that was a privilege of old age or something, wasn't it?

Angel shook her head, laughing - then yelled as he took off. "Hey!" Privilege of old age nothing, he wasn't even that old! She seethed jokingly as she took off after him, blue flames sparking around her as she blazed after Sam.

"Catch me if you can!" Sam spiraled a little as he blasted towards the goal, hoping to leave behind a smoke screen of sorts to slow Angel down. It was a race, after all.

"Cheater!" Angel complained, making a mock noise of annoyance as she kicked up the temperature around her, barreling through the smoke (and nearly getting into a head-on collision with a bird in the process, but they wouldn't talk about that).

Sam barreled onward, chuckling at her complaint. "I know, I know. Catch me and make me pay, or try to anyway!" He looked over his shoulder to see whether she was gaining on him.

That was a challenge if Angel ever heard one, and she was more than happy to rise to the occasion. She was certainly gaining on him, already level with his knees and moving faster. She dipped down under him, turning on her back and giving him a cheeky grin and a wave before shooting on.

"Hey, you-" Before Sam could say anything else Angel was ahead of him. He'd nearly forgotten just how fast she was, and was getting a nice reminder of that very fact. "Hehe, oh, it's on now." He dug deep and pushed as hard as he could in an attempt to catch up to her again.

"Bring it on!" She called back, spinning a bit as she flew along, twisting so she could stick her tongue out at Sam. She was enjoying this rather a lot.
