Maddie and Sarah go to see a movie for Sarah's birthday, and they catch up on their various relationships and other things before it starts.

The concession line had been crazier than usual, thanks in no part to a quasi-malfunctioning cash register, so it took Maddie and Sarah longer than usual to get through to get their food. Once she knew what the problem was, however, Sarah used her powers to fix the finicky machine and the line moved faster, so they ended up getting decent seats in the theatre after all.

Picking at her popcorn, she looked over at Maddie and grinned. "Thanks again for taking me to see this, Maddie. Star Wars will always be number one in my heart, but damn if this doesn't look like it's gonna be good!"

"Even if it sucks," her companion grabbed a fistful of popcorn with a mischievous grin. "It's still like two hours of looking at Chris Pine's eyes. Don't look at me like that!" In anticipation of any look of disapproval from Sarah, Maddie quickly jumped to set the record straight. "His eyes are like ridiculously blue, they can't be real. Piercing. I don't care who or what you're into," she nudged Sarah with her shoulder, "those eyes are hypnotizing. You can't turn away from them."

"No but seriously, I know nothing about Star Trek, but the first movie was pretty awesome, and I've heard only good things about this one as well. But if you change your mind, we can always sneak into The Hangover Part III. It's your birthday after all."

"Even if it sucks. Which it won't." Sarah confirmed her statement with a nod before eating some more popcorn. "His eyes really are, though, I know!" Maddie was right, no matter who you were or who you were into, you couldn't help but notice those eyes of his. "And no thanks, I'm more than happy to stay here. I do hope it's good, though, I've been trying not to get spoiled online but it's haaaard."

Maddie smiled and tossed a few kernels of popcorn into her mouth. It was nice hanging out with Sarah again, almost like it had been after her arrival at the school over a year ago. Laughing, scheming (though most ideas felt flat; it was hard to top sneaking a Big Black Cock into the boys' suite late at night), being lectured on the differences between Star Trek and Star Wars, and all that fun stuff. And besides, she had to make up for the Worst Birthday Ever from the year prior.

"Hey." The redhead shifted in her seat in an effort to face her friend as head-on as possible. "How have you been? How are you doing? Everything... all right?"

"Yeah, pretty much," Sarah replied, reaching for her drink and taking a sip. "I mean, it's been a little rough, going back to school again at a higher level and dealing with... you know." She didn't have to say what had been pre-occupying almost all of their minds the last little while, with Genosha's one year anniversary having just passed. "It's always going to be difficult, I guess, but it'll get better with time. I just wish Layla was around too, that'd help." Without elaborating on that, she shook her head and put on a small smile. "Hey, how about you, how are you doing?"

The armrest made it difficult to lean in and hug Sarah, but Maddie managed it well enough; the discomfort of having the hard armrest pressing into her gut was a small price that she didn't mind paying. "I'm here for you too, you know," the younger girl reminded her companion. But she knew that her presence was not the same as Layla's would have been, that she could never compare to the comforting effect Sarah's girlfriend would have. The fact remained, however, that Layla was not here, and while Maddie knew she could never take her former roommate's place, that didn't mean she couldn't do what she could.

Releasing Sarah from her embrace, Maddie relaxed back in her chair. "I mean, I know I'm kinda busy with school and everything, but you can always text me and I'm there. Well, unless I'm in class, or if I've gone down to the city, which I'll suspend right now given the circumstances, unless Doug has another breakdown and I need to set up a sandbox in his living room which hopefully won't happen. Ooh I know!" She was rambling now, like she did whenever she was excited by an idea. "I'll totally be your Platonic Surrogate Girlfriend! Yeah. I mean, I'm an excellent cuddler, you can ask Sue if you require a reference."

"No, I'll take your word for it," Sarah replied with a grin. "And I probably don't say it enough but I really do appreciate you being there for me, Maddie." It was difficult being apart from Layla but Maddie made it a lot easier, that was for sure. The mention of Sue brought a smile to her face. "So hey, how are things going with you two anyway, you and Sue? That's so awesome, by the way, I'm very happy for you both!"

"Happy? Really now?" Pausing to take a sip of her drink, Maddie raised her eyebrows quizzically. "I'd think you'd be jealous that we usurped your and Layla's position as 'Power Lesbian Couple on Campus'." The following wink was meant to assure Sarah that despite her serious tone and straight delivery, the redhead had been completely joking. "Nah, it's really nice." On either side of the straw, the ends of Maddie's lips curled upward in a shy smile as she took another sip. She didn't really talk about it much, her and Sue, even with Billy and Clint, not because she was embarrassed or ashamed, but because it felt like a secret she wanted to keep all to herself. That and she turned into a complete pile of mush, all warm and fuzzy inside, whenever she started thinking about them.

"It's really nice."

Sarah chuckled at the comment, shaking her head as she laughed. "If I had a crown, I'd hand it over to you, but it's just an honorific at this point in time I'm afraid." She ate more of her popcorn while listening to Maddie, and aww'd appropriately at her comments. "It really is nice, and I really am so very happy for you both!" To prove it she instigated another hug with Maddie, being careful not to spill any of their food or drinks.

Maddie laughed and reached her arms over Sarah's head and grasped the invisible crown she pretended the other girl was wearing. With great grandisosity, the redhead slowly lifted the object up off the head of its wearer, and pulled it close to her. After a few moments of studying the space between her hands, twisting her ankles back and forth, Maddie mimed smashing something upon her knee. "Here," she said, thrusting her empty hand before the other girl with a huge smile. "Nothing says we can't share the crown. I mean, you'll always be the first, the original, unreplaceable."

Accepting the proffered portion of the crown, Sarah laughed and placed it on her knee. "I like that, sharing. I gladly accept!" She shifted in her seat and looked at the screen, which was still showing miscellaneous trivia and ads before the movie started. "What time is it? I hope the movie starts soon, feels like we've been waiting forever." They got there fairly early to make sure they had a good seat, and Sarah was convinced this was the third time they'd seen the same filler, at least, if not more.

As soon as she'd said that, however, the lights dimmed and the screen changed to announce the commencement of the previews. "Ooh, here we go, they're starting!"

"Oh hey," Maddie switched to an audible whisper and leaned over to her companion; she had one final thing to say. It may have only been previews, but how else was she going to know what awesome movies were coming out? "Remind me to tell you about how Doug and Wade totally crashed our first date."

And with that, the redhead and the brunette settled back into their seats and readied themselves for the excitement to come.
