Sue introduces Topaz to the Storms' library. Backdated to July 30.

"...Oh."

When Sue had said her grandparents had a library, Topaz had sort of been expecting a small room with a few bookcases. That was not what this was. At all.

Sue grinned holding her arms out wide as she span around on the spot to face Topaz, "I know, impressive right? I think my Gran just wanted a library cause it sounds impressive when you say we have a huge library. My Grandad has probably read every book in here though.

Lucky him, Topaz thought dimly as she looked around. She didn't have long, she probably wouldn't even make a dent in this. "This is incredible," she managed to say as her gaze finally settled on Sue.

"It is a kinda nice place if you want to just get away from people," Sue agreed, "no-one really comes in here that much apart from the cleaners. And even they have to be really careful." Sue tossed a bright grin at Topaz before the girl walked over to the wall and threw open a glass cabinet. "Grandpa would kill them if they damaged his first editions."

Topaz got the feeling Sue was showing off. Not in a malicious way of course, more in a "I knew you were going to love this and I'm proud of myself for thinking of it" kind of way. "That's...brilliant," she murmured as she leaned in, examining the titles.

Sue cocked an eyebrow at Topaz as she span around on one foot, her hands and other leg held out to balance herself, and collapsed down into her armchair. "I thought you'd like it," she told the other girl with a grin. "You know, this is the happiest I've seen you in...well ever really."

"Well you've never seen me in a library," Topaz said, a bit dryly, as she looked back at Sue. "Thanks," she said after a moment. "Ya know...for invitin' me."

"Well the few times I've ever run across you in the library you have your nose buried in a book," Sue pointed out. "It makes it kinda hard to see anything then." she told the other girl with a grin. "After everythign that's happened I figured you'd like to get away from the mansion as much as anyone else, and this seemed like as good a olive branch as anything."

"Well that's what a library's for, right?" But there was a small smile pulling at Topaz's lips as she looked around the library. 'Everything that's happened...' "Yeah, not every day a cave tries to kill you. Even at Xavier's." And that was only part of Topaz's summer. And somehow not even the concerning part.

"Maybe?" Sue hedged, "You mean it's not make out central? So all those kids at the high school?" Sue grinned at Topaz to show she was joking around. "I dunno that seems pretty par for the course for Xavier's. Either you get attacked by caves, killer scorpions or creatures out of nightmare. And lets not even mention what you have to do to get here in the first place." The blonde gave Topaz a wry smile, "You ever get the feeling that we'd be safer somewhere else?"

"Well I tend to not notice things when I'm reading," Topaz admitted dryly, definitely smiling now. Playing along. "You and Maddie could be sitting two feet away snogging and I probably wouldn't notice." At Sue's question, she tilted her head, expression turning thoughtful. "Honestly...no."

Sue arched an eyebrow at Topaz, "You know that almost sounds like a challenge to me," the blonde noted a grin settling onto her face, not even Topaz could be that oblivious could she? "So if the mansion was under attack or on fire you'd just read through it? That's cra..." Sue's voice trailled off, "Ok so maybe I've done that before."

"It's easier than you might think," Topaz pointed out conversationally. "At my old school, there was a fight in the library, pretty much right next to me. Never noticed. The librarian told me about it after, I didn't believe her."

Sue's jaw literally dropped as she stared at Topaz in shock, "How can you ignore a fight happening right next to you?" came the amazed question, "Actually scratch that, why were people fighting in the library in the first place? 'Avast sir, verily thou hast taken the very book for which I seek' 'Back foul knave, the rules of finders keepers loosers weepers doth apply here' 'have at thee braggart'". The blonde grinned at Topaz covering both sides of the conversation in the most ridiculous accents she could manage."

Topaz raised an eyebrow at Sue, fighting back a smile. "Should I offended that you think that's how the British talk?" Her tone was too amused for the words to be serious, however. "I actually don't remember what the fight was about. My old school was full of idiots."

Sue tilted her head and stared at Topaz, "Not really British people in general, more some kinda amalgamation between some old school knight and pirate," she pointed out with a grin. "Besides, you have to admit life would be so much cooler if people actually spoke like that. All Thous and verilys." The shrugged at Topaz, "All schools are full of idiots." she agreed, "Although totally missing it is still really...impressive I guess."

"I think I'd get a headache if everyone spoke like that." Topaz raised an eyebrow at Sue's use of the word impressive. "I was oblivious, you can say it, it's fine. I just really didn't care much." She hadn't liked anyone at that school. And nobody had liked her.

"Yeah, maybe it would get old fast," Sue agreed, "But a talk like a pirate day would still be kinda fun. I wonder how many people would go Jack Sparrow if we did that." the blonde pondered thoughtfully. "Doesn't sound like you really enjoyed school all that much back then," Sue noted as she gave Topaz a level look.

"Although I suppose if we grew up speaking that way it would seem natural to us...." Topaz tilted her head, considering it now. "Hmn." At Sue's last statement she shrugged. "Loved school just fine. It was the other kids I couldn't stand." She paused for a moment before adding dryly, "I know I'm good at hidin' it, but I don't always get along well with people."

"Noo, really?" Sue replied with a grin, "I hadn't noticed. Though you know spending all your free time in a library doesn't always help with that, you hardly know people and they don't get to know you. I mean I never knew you had such a dry sense of humor. I love it."

"And here I always thought lettin' people get to me would be a bad thing." She was only half joking on that note.

"It does have it's upsides," Sue replied with a grin, "You never know what interesting facts you'll learn about someone."

"Hmn." Topaz tilted her head, considering it for a moment. "I'll have to remember that."

"Awesome," came the reply with a bright grin. "You never know who'll turn out being a knightly pirate after all," the blonde told the other girl seriously.

Topaz couldn't help but smirk a bit as she said, "Ahoy."
