Lorna & Tabitha | On the Care and Feeding

Lorna brings food, and Tabitha is grateful.



"Tabitha?" Lorna said out loud when she entered the library. She had
heard that the other female rarely left the library and so she thought
a food delivery was in order. "I brought food."

The blond librarian's head popped up like a gopher from behind a book
shelf. "Food? Real food?" Her mouth started to water in a truly
Pavlovian manner.

"The only kind of food I know." Lifting the tubewares above her head
for Tabitha to see. "I didn't know what exactly you liked so I brought
a little of everything.

Tabitha rushed toward Lorna like a puppy in anticipation of a treat.
"Are you kidding, all I've got to look forward to are cases of noodle
bowls and Guu."

"All you have to look forward too...? Tabs you know there is a kitchen
just within walking distance from here. I should have come sooner."
Handing Tabitha the tubeware of food. "Are you serious about the
noodles and Guu?"

She took the food with a awed reverence. "Kitchens and me, we don't
get along. There tends to be fire. And sometimes explosions."

"There is leftovers, and I make sandwich daily for those that don't
have time to sit down and eat. Plus fruits and veggies are always
around. Though I am glad that you don't want the kitchen to explode,
that puts me at ease, I still think you should get out of the
library."

Though Tabitha felt her guts freeze, she tried not to let it show on
her face. "It's just easier here," she said. "Everything's packaged
and has the information on it. I don't-" she cut herself off, not sure
she wanted to bring up her food problems with Lorna of all
people. She didn't want to stick her foot in her mouth.

"Don't...?" Lorna looked at her librarian. "It is okay to talk to me
about food problems Tabitha. I-I have had my own share of food related
problems."

"It's just so hard to make the math work," she waved her hands
helplessly. "It's hard enough figuring out how many calories using my
powers burns, but trying to make it balance so I don't get hurt
again." Or gain back the weight she'd lost, she didn't say.

Lorna looked at Tabitha for awhile before looking down at her own
hands. "I think I can help you. If you want my help. One that could
give you the calories that you need for when you use your powers and
still make it balance out. I know is hard when it comes to dealing
with weight. Believe me I have had my own personal struggle with it
for years. But I know I can help."

Tabs' forehead wrinkled. "I... I don't want to make your life hard,"
she said with a swallow. "But.. that would be really good."

"You are not making my life hard. Besides it is part of my job to make
sure everyone is eating."

She smiled shakily. "Thanks."
