Hope, Maddie, Topaz || Sleepy Times
Oct. 16th, 2013 11:30 pmMaddie and Topaz try to watch a movie and end up falling asleep. Too bad Hope doesn't have a camera when she finds them.
Topaz had already forgotten what movie Maddie had put in.
She remembered something about "one of the best films" and "sort of historically accurate" and "it's American history!" but the actual name was escaping her. She was sitting on the couch with her elbow on the arm and her cheek resting in her hand.
And it was getting harder to keep her eyes open. Not that the movie wasn't interesting -- Topaz was just tired. But she'd never hear the end of it if Maddie caught her falling asleep.
Maybe closing her eyes for a few seconds wouldn't hurt...
The long days were hitting Maddie hard, and try as she might to hit back she couldn't fight the heaviness in her eyelids and she too found herself closing her eyes and leaning her side against the back of the sofa. She had seen "The Great Escape" enough times to know exactly what was going on; she didn't need the picture. And it was more for Topaz's sake than her own. Really. It had nothing to do with the fact that she had gotten tired of doing homework and needed something to help rid her mind of the floating math problems that appeared every time she closed her eyes.
She would just listen for a little while. And wait for her favorite parts to come on.
As both girls fell asleep, the movie continued on. As the credits began to roll Topaz fidgeted in her sleep, cold (she was only wearing a t-shirt, after all), and turned automatically, gravitating towards the closest source of heat.
Which just happened to be the redhead sitting next to her.
Hope was stretching her arms as she stepped in the room, just having finished an hour of violin practice and very much wanting some cold water to drink. As she made her way to the fridge for a bottle of her desired drink, she first didn't note the two sleeping on the couch. Only when she turned around as she sipped the water, she noticed them.
She froze for just for a few seconds, not quite sure what to make at the picture before when the water she was drinking decided to take the wrong way down and Hope started to cough. She quickly covered her mouth as much as possible, not wanting to startle her fellow psi classmates awake.
It was half Hope choking on her water and half the slight intrusion of emotions that had Topaz stirring. She fidgeted a bit, a frown pulling at her lips, though her eyes remained closed. When had she fallen asleep? And more to the point what was she laying on?
Finally her eyes fluttered open.
And she found her face half pressed into Maddie's hair.
"Bloody hell." Her voice hopped up an octave or two as she quickly unwound herself from around Maddie, scrambling back to the corner where she had started off.
"That was right in my ear." Maddie winced and pushed herself up, finger massaging her injured ear. "I think you made me deaf. That was really loud. And shrill. Owww."
The next sound Hope let out was not quite cough, but something between giggle and a cough. "Sorry..." Yet another cough followed as she tried to continue: "Didn't mean..." But she was again interrupted by another cough. "To startle you."
"Sorry," Topaz said in Maddie's direction, resisting the urge to deliberately raise her voice to compensate for Maddie's "deafness." "S'alright Hope," she added as she dropped her head back against the arm of the couch. Awake for the most part but not quite motivated to move. "Try to keep breathin', though. I'd hate for this to be the reason you died."
The redhead gave Topaz a look of drowsy confusion, then looked at Hope, the back again. "I feel like I'm missing something here. What's going on? Dammit." The television screen and its stationary DVD menu caught her eye. "We slept through the movie."
"The movie mustn't have been very engaging..." Hope had finally managed to get her coughing under control and took another, far more careful sip of the water. "... if you feel asleep in the middle of it. I must say, you looked quite cozy though."
"Nah, it was brilliant." Topaz covered her mouth as she tried not to yawn and grimacing at Hope's comment. She had nothing to say to that.
Maddie yawned and stretched. "What time is it?"
Quickly glancing at the clock on the microwave, Hope almost sounded surprised as she replied: "11.30 already. I had not realized it was that late already."
"Fuuuuuuuuu." With another stretch and yawn for good measure, the telepath rose from her place on the couch and looked around the room. She reached for the remote and, with the pressing of a few buttons, turned off the dvd player and tv; she would get the DVD in the morning, not like anyone was going to steal it. "We should get some sleep."
"Mmm," Topaz muttered under her her breath, making no move to actually move. Hey, she was doing what Maddie had suggested -- she was getting some sleep. She was basically already asleep. They wouldn't mind her using their couch for the night, would they?
"Hey." Three sharp jabs at Topaz's shoulder. "Hey loser. Time for bed."
"I don't think she is going to make that far." Hope observed, eyeing the girl who was almost fast asleep again.
Maddie sighed. "Come on." She slipped an arm under Topaz's side and leveraged her up off the sofa by an inch or two. "You're not sleeping out here. Not when there's a perfectly good bed with nice comfy pillows and a comforter. Don't make me carry you telekinetically."
"C'mon." It wasn't quite a whine, but it was fairly close. "Not hurtin' anyone here, m'I?" Her voice was sleep-laced, her accent thicker than usual. "Just for the night, m'tired...wanna sleep..."
Hope looked back and forth between the sleepy Topaz and Maddie. "Maybe we should just leave her here for the night? We do have a spare pillow and some blankets around somewhere." She moved over to the cupboard in the room: "I have to say, she looks rather adorable..."
"What?" That had Topaz waking up, head snapping around to look at Hope.
"Oh good, you're awake." Not bothering to be gentle, Maddie pushed the now alert girl on their couch to a seated position, and continued to forcefully urge her to get off the couch and head in the direction of one of the suite's bedrooms. "Come on Sleeping Beauty. I have an extra pair of pyjamas you can borrow and a super comfy unoccupied bed for you to sleep in." Technically both she and Hope had extra beds, and Hope probably had extra pyjamas, but Topaz was already facing Maddie's room and that was one less step involved in the process.
"I'll even make you a cup of tea or warm milk if you want. But I'm not letting you develop serious back problems later in life because you spent too many nights sleeping on a couch."
"Woah. Major deja vu. I feel like we've been here before."
"Not m'fault it's easier to fall asleep here," Topaz muttered, scrubbing her eyes as Maddie forced her up. "And the couch isn't that bad." The position she'd been in certainly left something to be desired, however.
"Have we?" She questioned, frowning faintly as she looked over at the redhead.
"Now that you mention it... it is true." Hope moved back to Topaz' and Maddie's side. "You have dozed off here a few times..." She tilted her head, trying to remember. "I saw you sleeping here on the couch last week. And in the weeks before that once or twice as well."
She bent to collect the glasses on the table as Maddie attempted to steer Topaz in the direction of a real bed. "Looks like you feel... comfortable here?"
"How about we discuss this after a good night's sleep hmm?" Maddie's eyes flickered back and forth between the two other girls. "Thanks for waking us up, Hope," she said and nudged Topaz toward the bedroom.
"Now say 'goodnight' to Hope, sweetie," she said. Her voice was dripping with sweetness, like she was speaking to a small child who had stolen her soccer ball and she was trying to make them do what she wanted. "Let's get you changed and you can go back to sleep-sleep."
"Sleep-sleep?" Topaz repeated in disbelief, looking back at Maddie with a raised eyebrow. "You're jokin', right? I'm not five Maddie. Hell even when I was no one talked to me like that." Of course that was another story entirely. "G'night Hope," she added quickly. "Thanks."
"Sleep well, Topaz. And you are very welcome." Hope tried to keep her face straight as she stood up again, but she failed miserably as she giggled. "And you as well, Maddie. I hope you have a good sleep-sleep." She gave Maddie a wink and moved over to the kitchenette to deposit the glassware there.
