Dinner is far of as Laurie and Sooraya deal with some uninvited guests in the kitchen.

Laurie whistled quietly to herself as she say at one of the bar stools arranged across the large kitchen bench.

She'd taken to bringing her books and notes with her to various places around the mansion in order to one, get out of her room and suite more and two, have actual contact with people beside her suite mate and the friends who dragged her out at various stages.

"So, what's on the menu tonight?"

Laurie smiled at Sooraya, hoping it looked encouraging. She'd been a pretty poor friend since the other woman came back to the mansion, time to start changing that.

Sooraya settled on another stool herself, paging idly through one of the recipe books she had picked up from the shelf. "I am not sure, actually. I am hoping to find some inspiration here. In any case..." She quickly looked her friend up down. "... I say it should be something that should give you some energy for all the studying you have been doing."

Hopping down from her stool for a moment, she pulled open the small fridge used for 'special' products where she kept her halal meat. "I have chicken or beef. Any preference?"

"Hmm...Beef, I think," Laurie grinned and pointed at a recipe Sooraya was about to page past. "I believe that wouldn't be too hard for the two of us to cook together."

It had been a long time since cooking classes with Lorna, but Laurie had always enjoyed the subtle back and forth you could get when two really good cooks worked together, and if there was anything you could say about Sooraya and herself, it was that they knew their food, and how to get the best out of it.

She pulled the beef from the refrigerator and put it on the counter as she checked the recipe. "Oh, you mean the one with the sweet potato's and the kale?" Sooraya checked with Laurie. "I like the look of that one. It's an interesting combination."

She glanced at the list of ingredients and was about to go collect what she needed, when she saw Laurie's glance stray towards her book. "Oh no you don't." She reached over and pulled the book away, snapping it closed after tucking a napkin where she was. "You can study after you have eaten. Every time I see you somewhere, you are looking at a book."

"But..."

Laurie trailed off as she gave her friend a wry look, she had been eating and breathing her study for the past few days, surely an evening off wouldn't kill her.

"I'll peel the potatoes then."

"Excellent." Sooraya put the book somewhat further away, wanting to keep it safe from any food stains and handed Laurie the potato's. "I will get the beef ready. It will need to stew for a bit, so it would be good to at least that going."

Pulling out a dangerous looking knife from the block, she neatly started cubing the meat. "Are you enjoying medical school so far?"

"I'm not sure anyone of entirely sound mind would enjoy medical school, but I am enjoying my classes and my teachers and fellow students are all self-involved enough that they're more interested in their own drama then grilling me about mine."

Laurie pulled a large bowl out of one of the low cupboards and had sat down to begin peeling when two large muscular demons burst through the kitchen door. Laurie looked them up and down for a moment before she calmly placed the still unpeeled potato down on the table and threw the peeling knife she'd been holding at the nearest one.

"What is THAT?!?!?!" Sooraya dove out of the way as one brought down his fist where she had been standing moments before. "They looked like they are from a horror movie!"

"I believe they are demons."

Laurie's entire demeanor was calm as she ducked out of the way of a nasty claw swipe and then tried to kick out, only to have her leg grabbed. She gasped in pain as the demon clamped down, feeling claws stab through muscle.

"Throw me a weapon!"

"You ugly thing! Over here!" Sooraya ducked a swipe of her own, just managing to grab the heavy iron cast pan of the counter they had planned to use for the beef. "Laurie! Would this work? You gonna be okay?" With those words, she pushed the pan over the floor.

Seeing Laurie reach for the pan, she sucked in a deep breath and popped up from her limited cover. "Hello! Over here!" Grabbing a potato of the counter, she tossed it at one creature to draw it's attention. "Why don't you play with me!" Her voice had not yet died down, when she shifted and sharp tendrils of sand lashed out the monstrosities.

"I'm fine, see if you can blind them!"

Laurie swung the cast iron skillet at the one holding onto her, following up with a kick to one of it's knees as it howled in pain, letting her go. She transferred her weight and then swung again with the heavy skillet, aiming for one of it's shoulders. They needed to take out these monsters before they could get loose in the rest of the mansion, and possibly hurt one of the kids.

The sharp concentrated tendrils of sand changed fluently, flowing out to form a cloud of stinging particles, which quickly attacked the creatures eyes. Both let a sound that was something between a screech and a growl.
Laurie limped slightly, transfering her weight to her good leg as she moved to the side of her assailant, bringing her skillet to bear again as she made another swipe at it's head. It connected solidly, sending the foe to the ground for a brief moment before it surged toward her with a roar.
"Keep the other one occupied, please. Maybe find something else iron? It seems to hurt them."

She was at a disadvantage with her injury but that didn't make her helpless, or an easy target. Years of X-men training filed quickly through her mind as she measured up her opponent, trying to put room between herself and her enemy.

Pick up something made of iron... that was impossible to do in her sandform... if only she could... Quickly regaining her focus, Sooraya dove down, her attention fully on her own demon again. Forcing herself under his feet she sent him to the ground, aiming yet another vicious lash at his eyes to hopefully keep it down for a moment.

Flowing over to the knife block, she resumed her human form and grabbed one of the blades, stabbing the creature in the hope of doing same damage. Making a face the black goo that dripped from the wound, she called out. "It's almost like they are not really alive even..."
"They're alive, just not of this dimension."

Laurie waited for the last moment before surging to the side, narrowly missing being gutted by the claws as the demon moved past her at speed, she turned as it went and brought her skillet down hard between it's shoulder blades. It fell to the floor, and she straddled it quickly, smashing the skillet against it's skull, and about it's shoulders till it stilled.

She knew she hadn't killed it, it would take more then bludgeoning damage to kill one of these things but hopefully it would stay out long enough that she could find something to tie it up with. She looked up and saw Sooraya doing quite admirably against her own assailant, but four hands were always better then two in regards to other dimensional fiends bent on destruction.

"We need to find some way to tie them up."

"And hope someone can find some way to send them back to where they came from?" Sooraya grabbed a second knife, putting it in the creatures other shoulder and jumping back to avoid it's claws. "Grrrr."

With a growl she shifted back in to her sand form, forming a tight tendril of moving sand particles and lashed out. She could only hope she guesstimated correctly where the nails were when she sheared the claws of. The creature screamed an unearthly sound and despite the two knives in it body, it lashed out with it other hand.

Lashing out again, she also took out this set of claws and reformed once more. The thing was down for the moment, but it would not stay that way, she guessed. Taking a page from Laurie's book, she grabbed the heavy cutting board they'd been working on and dropped it on the things head. "And now stay down if you don't want me to hurt you any further." She growled.
Laurie, having noted that Sooraya had her assailant well in hand had spent her time trying to come up with something to tie them up with and came up short. Nothing in here beside the iron skillets were going to hold these creatures.

"I need you to go find the others, I've got to stay here and keep knocking these guys out when they come to."

It was the best decision, her leg wound while not fatal would slow her down and while she'd soon staunch the blood flow with a bandage from the first aid kit it meant she wasn't really up for anything more strenuous then keeping an eye on the creatures they'd already felled.

"Are you sure you are going to be alright here, alone with them?" Sooraya pulled a First Aid kit from one of the cupboards and passed it on to Laurie.
Laurie brought the skillet down on the head of the one she'd dropped a few moments to be sure, and then followed up with another just to make absolutely sure he was knocked out

"I think I'll be fine, iron seems to put them on the back foot so as long as I'm diligent with walloping them any time they look about to wake up, it should be fine. Now shoo, quicker you go, quicker you're back with reinforcements."

She made shooing gestures at her friend before turning to place the first aid kit on the kitchen bench. It would look like food would have to wait till she'd at least stemmed the blood flow from her leg. If all went well, she might even have the potatoes peeled before Sooraya got back.
