Dec. 26th, 2013 01:23 pmEnter Tyrone Johnson. Tandy is visiting her uncle when a new boy shows up.
Hunger clawed at his gut like a monster, but Ty ran anyway. Heavy footsteps pounded the sidewalks behind him, Ty ducked around people and objects, dove into shadows and held still as a ghost, eyes barely open to wait until it was relatively safe to run again. Minutes stretched out until he lost all sense of time. Then he saw the church, and a small part of him that remembered when his mother had Sundays off, it was a safe place.
So Ty ran to the church, and snuck in the door.
Tandy was sitting in the front waiting for her Uncle finishing up whatever he was doing. Service had been over for awhile and a few of the attendees wanted a few words with him, he was a Father after all. Feeling a cold draft, Tandy looked towards the back of the church to see the door move. Standing up and walked towards the center of the aisle. "Hello?" Not seeing anyone, Tandy walked back towards the door and looked outside before closing the door. "Odd."
Michael was still talking to one of his parishioner's about her son and his latest escapades at school, the father loved this time after church when he could spend some time focusing on the individual
parishioners. But as he stood there with his breath misting infront of him Michael was finding it hard to focus on the lady infront of him as she told him for the umpteenth time about her son's latest paper at school. It was thanks to his distracted state of mind that Michael caught a movement out of the corner of his eye. Quickly excusing himself the priest followed his niece towards the back of the church. "Tandy? Is everything ok?"
Ty curled in on himself, trying to be as small as possible where he hid deep in a shadowed corner.
"It is okay Uncle Mike. Just thought I saw someone..." She whispered and looked over to see the lady her uncle was talking to leaving. She watched the woman walk past and when she did, Tandy saw a shape in the corner of the room. "Hey!" Not meaning to be so loud.
Ty felt his eyes widened and shook his head emphatically. Don't draw attention, don't draw attention- He opened his mouth to speak-
And snapped it shut again. Wouldn't do any good, he couldn't get a word out sideways right now. Shame burned in his chest, to be quickly replaced by flat panic as a teenager pushed his way into the church, angry eyes locked on Ty.
Michael tore his eyes away from the terrified child who was hiding in the corner and turned to the new arrival with a broad genuine smile on his face. "I'm sorry you just missed service," he informed the teenager, "but if there is anything else I can help you with," he began.
The young man ignored the clergyman, stomped right passed him toward Ty. "You're coming back before your ruin everything," he snarled, voice barely human.
Ty skittered along the wall, searching desperately for a way out.
"Hey." Tandy stepped in front of the other teen, the glow of the crescent moon around her right eye started to form. "This is a place of sanctuary. I suggest you leave." Her new mutant training started to kick in. Giving her uncle a quick glance to let him know something bad wad about to go down.
Michael took a step backwards interposing himself between Ty and the other teenagers as he glanced at his niece with worry, "Be careful," he told her softly clutching at the pews. All he wanted was to grab Tandy and run away right now, but he knew he couldn't wrap her in cotton wool all her life. She had to live her own life and he couldn't be any prouder of her right now standing up for someone she'd just met.
"No!" Ty moved forward. "L-l-" He struggled with the letter, shame burned in his chest, but at least the guy was looking at him now. "Go away!"
Tandy put her hand on the other teenagers shoulder and pushed him back towards the door. "Okay out!"
The teen turned an angry glare on the young woman, raised his fist to knock her out of the way. "Out of the way, skank!" he snarled.
Anger flashed in her eyes as she was called a skank. Really? In a Church? In front of her Uncle? Her skin started to glow brightly, revealing that she was indeed a mutant, as she took his arm and twisted it -hard- to make him fall to his knees. "You really shouldn't had said that."
More than a little awe-struck, Ty stared at the blond with a great deal of respect. Then the thug pulled a knife. Words surged in Ty's throat, but didn't make it out as more than broken consonants. He threw himself forward in a desperate attempt to intercept.
Tandy saw the knife and instantly her daggers reacted as she let go of the other boy.
The dagger sank into Ty as he collided with the girl to push her away. Shadows shot from all over the church, eclipsing the electrical lights and throwing the sanctuary into darkness. Several meaty thuds accompanied grunts and cries of pain, followed by footsteps sprinting away.
The shadows receded as quickly as they'd come. Ty stared wide-eyed at Tandy. "H-how did you?" he couldn't quite complete the question.
No way was Tandy responsible for the darkness. It happened just as she watched one of her daggers hit the other boy who ran into her. For the couple of seconds when she was in darkness, she didn't feel anything only that the darkness tugged at her light - like it wanted more. Then suddenly it was gone. Tandy looked at the boy and then over at her Uncle and then back at the boy. "Did you do the darkness thingy?"
Ty backed away, closer to the shadows, which almost seemed to reach out in an attempt to embrace him. He shook his head wildly.
Michael stared at the scene in confusion, he wasn't quite sure what was happening, a darkness had eclipsed the church for a second and then there were only two teenagers left. The priest clutched at his rosary as he approached the teenagers, worry for his niece pushing all other thoughts out of his head, even though he knew that they'd just be back later tonight. "Is everyone ok?"
Tandy took a step towards the boy, "No it is okay. My name is Tandy. I promise I won't hurt you but I do know a place were you will be safe."
