jane and warren
Mar. 31st, 2004 03:44 pmWarren, meet Jane. Jane, meet Warren. Amusing introductory fluff.
Warren stood outside of Paige and Amanda's door and knocked. No one responded, so he knocked again. This time, he heard something inside the room. "Paige? Is that you?" he called. He cracked open the door to see a blond girl who appeared to be naked, but for the haze surrounding her form. "Holy-- Sorry, sorry," Warren stammered, covering his eyes. "I'm so sorry. I didn't see anything, I swear. I was just looking for Paige..."
Jane turned towards the door to see a man cowering against the doorjam. He had... wings. Wow. " She's not here right now. What's wrong? Why are you hiding your eyes?"
"You're naked," Warren pointed out, his eyes still squeezed shut. "Aren't you?"
"Er, right." Jane hurridly put on a large t-shirt -- she didn't want to upset anyone, after all. "Okay, I'm decent. My name's Jane. Who are you?"
Warren slowly opened his eyes. Good, the girl was wearing clothes now. He straightened himself and cleared his throat, embarassed at his reaction. "Sorry about that. I'm Warren. I live upstairs. Nice to meet you, Jane. You must be the new roommate." He extended his hand for a handshake.
She grinned and shook his hand. "Yeah, that's me. Nice to meet you, Warren. Your wings are very cool." Jane peered around to look at Warren's wings, staring unabashedly. "They look soft. Can I touch one?"
Warren smiled back. He was surprised that Jane wasn't embarassed at having been seen naked, but on the other hand, he was relieved that she wasn't making a big deal of it. He turned a bit to give Jane a better view of his wings. "Sure, go ahead."
She carefully stroked one of the feathers. "They are soft!" she exclaimed, delighted. "You can fly with them, right?"
He was amused at her apparent joy. "Yup. Otherwise they'd be pretty useless." He noticed that the mist was still surrounding her. "Is that your mutation, then? The haze around you?"
"Uh huh. I can turn into a cloud. Hey, can I watch you fly? That would be so cool. I could just follow you around as a cloud." Warren was very pretty. And he had wings! Everyone here was so cool. Jane was starting to think that she was really going to like it here.
"Uh-- sure, why not. Come with me out onto the flyer's platform." Warren gently touched her shoulder to guide her out the door and up the stairs. "So you can turn into a cloud, huh? Can you rain?"
"Great!" She was a bit startled that he was touching her. Except for doctors and handshakes, nobody had ever really touched her much before. It was nice. "I don't think I can rain. One of the doctors at the hospital made me try to rain, but I think I'm the wrong kind of cloud. All hydrogen and helium, no oxygen. Weird, huh? I mean, the human body is mostly water and it survives on oxygen, so you'd think I could rain, right? But no, the most most I can get is some small electrical discharges. So I can do lightening, but no rain."
"That's interesting. But hey, lightning's pretty cool." They were almost at the platform now. Warren opened the door and stepped out. "You're not afraid of heights, are you?"
Jane laughed, a bright sound that carried out over the platform. "I don't think so, but there's only one way to find out, right?" She launched herself upwards, transforming into her cloud form in midair. Her t-shirt dropped down to the floor, leaving a laughing cloud hanging in front of Warren. *Well? Are you coming?* she asked telepathically.
Warren pushed off of the platform. He closed his eyes as he did so, relishing the feel of the wind catching under his wings. *Can you read me?* he projected, looking at the cloud floating in front of him.
*A little. As long as you really project at me I can get most of it*
*Can you see me?*
*Yeah. It's weird, I don't have eyes right now, but somehow that doesn't matter.* She didn't really know how she did the things she could do, but it was a good question. Something to ponder, anyway. But later. Right now, she wanted to see Warren fly.
Warren nodded to himself, and soared in a circle around her, consciously showing off. He had to admit, he thought his own ability was a pretty cool one, and was flattered that Jane seemed to think so too. He grinned. *Now that you've seen what I can do, how about you show me some lightning?*
*And singe those pretty wings of yours?*
In response, Warren flew away from the cloud until she was quite a distance away.
*Probably a good idea, Warren! Okay, here goes!* She concentrated on changing her electrical gradients and managed to produce a few good bursts of "lightening" before she grew too tired and they started to fizzle. *Well, it wasn't much of a show, but there you are. What do you think?* she asked.
*I'm impressed!* Warren quickly flew back and circled her, laughing. *Hey, have you met Ororo-- I mean, Ms. Munroe yet? She controls the weather. Think that would have any effect on you?*
*Nope, I haven't met her yet. Wow, um, that would be kinda neat but kinda scary if she could control me. I'm not exactly weather...*
*Right. You'll probably find out eventually.* Warren flew around a bit when a thought occurred to him. *Can I fly /through/ you?*
*Yeah, I think so. You wanna try?*
*I'm curious.* Warren slowly made his way through the cloud. It was strange to think that he was flying /through/ another person. *Nope, no oxygen,* he observed.
*Yeah, don't try to breathe me in.* She projected the thought of a giggle to him at that.
Warren grinned. *That'd be even stranger than flying through you.*
*I could probably just hang out in your lungs a bit without hurting you, though. A little bit of me wouldn't do any harm, I don't think. Wanna try?*
*Maybe some other time.* The thought of inhaling another person was just too weird for him to comprehend, but Warren lived by the words "never say never." *Want to fly back now, or do you want to keep hanging out here in cloud form?*
*Let's go back. I'm tired. It's been a long day and I think tomorrow might be even more hectic.* Jane drifted towards the platform and started to solidify into her human form. She fell the last couple of inches and touched down lightly. "Bye, Warren! Thank you for flying with me!" She waved at him and skipped off back to her room, forgetting to take her t-shirt with her.
Warren landed on the platform after she'd left. Jane was quite an odd being, he thought. Runs around naked, turns into a cloud... and there's something else, I can't place it, but she's not like other people. He picked up the t-shirt at his feet. He'd have to remember to return this to her sometime.
