Angel finds the mansion's newest firebug experimenting with flying in the worst possible way, and offers a bit of advice. Backdated to February 23rd.

The sun was shining, and there was very little snow on the ground, which was all one could really ask for at this time at year. Angel grinned as she made her way across the grounds, hands shoved in her pockets as she walked along, taking in the sunshine. It was such a quiet, peaceful day.

Crash!

Oh that was too cliché. Angel whipped around at the sound, and saw a thin column of a smoke rising up on the other side of the mansion. "Smoke that I'm not the cause of," she muttered. "Never a good thing."

She flamed up and took off into the air, flying over the mansion rather than going around to see what the problem was.

Johnny lay face down on the ground as it gently steamed around him. He sat up and rubbed the front of his face. "There must be a better way," he mumbled to himself. He sighed. This was not going well. All he had really achieved was a rather cool burnt patch on the ground in the shape of a man.

He cocked his head and admired his handiwork. It did look cool.

"Dude what're you doing?" Angel asked in disbelief as she landed next to the burnt patch. "Oh nice," she added sincerely in reference to the burn patch. "Not sure how the groundskeepers will feel, but wow." She shook her head. No, focus. Focus was good. "Back to the original question. What exactly were you trying to do?"

Johnny rubbed the back of his head and gave a sheepish grin. "Uh, I'm basically trying to do what you did so effortlessly. Way to rub it in." He flashed a grin, "You see I'm sure I've floated before...but I've never been able to do it again." He cocked his head to one side. "Say, since you just flew here...what's the secret? Got any tips? How do I stop from just face planting? I know I can do it. It's possible. I know it is. I can feel it."

"Okay, well tip one - don't be stupid and try to jump off of things." Angel smiled as she sat, softening the blow of the insult. "Seriously man, we've got an entire class dedicated to flying, if you think you can fly let people know and they'll get you into that." She rested her elbows on her knees and her chin in her hands, thinking. "You're the little flame bug, right? When a fly I create thermal updrafts - ya know, like what birds use to fly. How do your powers work exactly?"

Johnny flopped to the ground. "Oh, man. I didn't know there was science involved. That blows. That was always Sue's department." He dejectedly toyed with the grass under him. "I thought I could just blast off like a rocket or something. Next you'll be telling me I have to know flight velocities and air friction and trigonometry or something..."

Angel gave him a bemused look. "Dude do I look like I know trigonometry. I barely know the difference between a rectangle and a square. Although I'm about thirty-nine percent certain that's geometry. Anyways I'm off track. The only thing you really need to know for flying - you know, besides don't fall - is something you already know." She paused for dramatic effect. "How to set yourself on fire." She grinned. "After that it's just a matter of okay, is the air hot enough to make me go zoom zoom through the air."

Johnny smiled cheekily. "Actually now you mention it you don't really look like you do...And I have to say setting myself on fire, is kinda my speciality." His tummy rumbled. He patted it affectionately. "It makes sense, I suppose. I should be aiming up not down...What do you think if I created a slingshot to launch myself into the air--" He chuckled, "just joking, just joking. But..."

"How about you talk to the flying instructor before you run off to start building that slingshot?" Angel said with a grin as she pushed herself up. "And in the meantime, food. Growing mutants need food."

Johnny smiled. "You took the words right out of my mouth."

"Let us do food then." She made a flourishing movement towards the mansion. "I'm sure Lorna has something yummy waiting."

"Meat," said Johnny sagely as he headed towards the mansion. "I hope there's meat."

"There's always meat, little firebug," Angel said with a nod. "Always."
