Kings Tide: Scott and Tandy
May. 2nd, 2014 04:25 pmScott and Tandy evacuate refugees and must clear a path through the jungle before the tide hits.
"34...35...36...37," Scott counted off the newly formed refugees as they streamed past him "38...39...40...41. That's everyone," he noted glancing down at the hastily thrown together list in his hands. This was one of the last groups of refugees to be picked up, it was going to be tight but they should have just enough time to get them to evacuation before the wave struck. "Get them moving," he called to the student partnered with him as he reached for his radio to report they'd started on their way.
Tandy nodded and moved to the front of the line. "Okay everyone follow me. We will get you to higher ground." She yelled so that everyone could hear her. She concentrated on her light to glow and not to release on her dagger. The ground was soft which would be difficult to move up with this many people so she was taking it slow. Turning around ever so often to make sure no one was falling behind.
Scott fell in behind the group reaching out to help one of the older refugees with their pack as they trudged along the path. It was inevitable that the group started to string out in a slowly elongating snake as they went, there wasn't much you could do about it Scott reflected as he kept an eye on Tandy. Atleast the teenager wasn't letting them get too far spread out, all that training with Red-X and the New Mutants must have started paying off.
Tandy slowed down to help an elderly lady who was having trouble climbing. "Careful." Tan looked over to see Scott before turning to a man next to her. "Continue going up."
Scott passed the pack over to another one of the refugees as his radio squawked, stepping out of the line the X-man lifted his hand to his ear, "Go ahead Sarah," It only took a few seconds for Scott to get caught up as he flicked his radio over to the channel he'd set up with Tandy, "We have a small problem Glow Worm."
Tandy heard her own radio come to life with Scott's voice. "If the small problem is a little light rain I am good. And I think this woman sprained her ankle. It looks bad."
"If a little rain was the only problem we had then I'd be a pretty happy camper." Scott replied before dropping his voice, "How bad's the sprain? I just heard from Sarah, the wave is coming in faster than expected o we need to get this group upto higher ground and fast." The X-man's voice rose in intensity as he spoke to press the severity of the situation home.
Tandy looked down at the ankle. "It is baseball size." The blonde paused when she heard that the wave is coming in faster. "Come again?"
"That's not good," Scott responded glancing down at the woman's ankle, "We're going to have to move fast to get ahead of the wave." Scott glanced around taking in the scenery around them before nodding in the direction of the jungle, "I think we can make it," he told the teenager as he ran the calculations in his head, "though we may want to take a shortcut."
"You are serious?!" Tandy said looking back towards the ocean. "Just cut through?" The blonde turned and beckoned another man to take the weight of the woman before stepping beside Scott. Making a sweeping motion with her hand as five light daggers appeared and hit the plants in front of them. Slowly they started to wilt away but it would talk hours for Tandy to clear a path and if she had the energy to keep going. "I think this is your department Cyclops."
"I never joke about giant waves of water which are the best surf you'll ever see, just ask my brother," Scott deadpanned as he turned to examine the wall of plants which confronted them. "I can clear it out," the X-man agreed as his eye started to glow red, "Just keep them moving behind me."
