All rides are at a halt at Disney's Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida today. The park didn't open this morning and as of midnight last night, evacuation procedures began at the hotels on the grounds of one of the world's best beloved amusement parks. A Disney spokesperson said at one am Eastern time that there had been a credible threat to the facilities from a terrorist group that she was unable to name at the time. She was also unwilling to confirm reports of an explosion or fire on the grounds.
At eight o'clock this morning, the official announcement came from local police, with confirmation from FBI and state police forces, that a radical anti-mutant organization - the Friends of Humanity - had taken responsibility for the shutdown. Police and bomb squads have already removed and disarmed three incindiary devices from rides at the park but were too late to stop a device from detonating in the control center of the park's monorail system. The resulting fire has caused damages that Disney officials say may close the park for up to a week.
The statement to the police from the Friends of Humanity indicated that the attack was in retaliation for Disney's ongoing mutant-friendly hiring policies.
