Sue recruits Topaz to help pack up her room. Backdated to Wednesday, July 16.

Sometimes Topaz did strange things.

They didn't always seem strange at first, at least not to her. But sometimes she got bored, and she had to change things up a little. Like laying on her bed with her head hanging over the edge, her hair spread out as she held her book in front of her face, reading.

Okay that one was strange.

"Is that some kinda secret magical way to read books?" asked an amused voice from the doorway, "Cause I don't actually think I've ever seen anybody actually read upside down like that, although to be fair my brother sometimes tries to eat upside down...it's never pretty."

"Oh yes see, if I'm upside down I can absorb the knowledge by - wait. No, never mind." Topaz gave a small laugh as she sat up, tossing the book aside. "Your brother tries to eat upside down? No, I can't imagine that goes well at all."

"I'm pretty sure there is nothing my brother won't do if you dare him," Sue pointed out with a laugh, "It's one of his more endearing qualities, if there is something you want him to do, just find a way to dare him to do it,works every-time."

"Well that could be good for some entertainment," Topaz said thoughtfully, tilting her head. "You know, when we're not fighting murderous statues and beings from other dimensions. We need something to do in our down time."

"You know I'm not entirely sure if I should be horrified that you're thinking about using my little brother for entertainment or to encourage you," Sue admitted with a laugh. "Although, if you've got all this free time on your hands, I'm pretty sure I can find something to keep you busy."

"You were the one that volunteered him," Topaz reminded her with a bit of a smirk. "I do seem to have a lot of free time lately though, and that can never end well. So what've you got?"

"He can never know," Sue told Topaz with a broad grin as she pulled a roll of duct tape and lofted it softly to the other girl, "Packing!"

Topaz caught the tape, raising an eyebrow. "This is it, then?" She deadpanned, obviously joking. "You're oustin' me so you can move in with Maddie?"

Sue nodded sagely, "Yup, got it in one," she replied matching Topaz's deadpan expression, "Booting you out." The blonde grinned as she examined the suite, "So where do you wanna start."

She made a show of looking around the room, settling on her overflowing bookshelf. "Obviously we start with that, it'll take the longest." She really needed another bookshelf, but it wasn't like there was exactly room for one.

Sue stared at the bookshelf in amazement, "You've been here for what a year," she commented in an amused tone of voice, "how'd you manage to explode your bookshelf like that?"

"Year and a half." As if the extra six months gave her an excuse for owning ten years worth of books. "Where do you think I go when I head into the city? Right to the bookstore." And she usually managed to leave with two or three. "Some of 'em also belong to the library. I'm not sure which is which anymore though, I need to go through them at some point and figure it out, I'm sure Ms. Smith wants them back."

"To be honest they're probably actually safer in here than they are in the library," Sue pointed out with a smile as she walked over and picked up one of the books from the pile on the floor, "less chance of explosion, invasion or mansiony chaos happening in here." the blond noted as she thumbed through the book. "You know there is a soon to be empty bookshelf in my room, we could totally just move it in here, At least that way it wouldn't look like it was on the verge of exploding."

"Yeah but I have to move out eventually and I think Ms. Smith might want them back before I do." She sighed as she eyed the bookshelf. There was just so much there... "Let me guess - to earn that bookshelf I have to help you pack?" It was said with a teasing smile, of course. Even without the bribe of a bookshelf Topaz still would have helped.

"You don't think she's forgotten? I mean if it was me Miss Smith would be chasing me all over the mansion to get those books back," Sue said ruefully with the voice of experience. "Of course, she probably trusts you more than the rest of us." the blonde noted placing the book back on it's pile. "Well you know how it is in this world, you don't get anything for free," Sue replied playing along.

"Oh I doubt she's forgotten," Topaz smiled. Though Sue was probably right about Ms. Smith trusting her more than she did the rest of the students. "Alright then." She stood up, rolling the duct-tape around in her hands. "Let's get you packed then. I want to earn my bookcase."

"You're pretty eager, you know it's almost as if you want to get rid of me," Sue teased, as she turned to head back into her suite. "I've only been here two years but," Sue gestured at the pile of clothes and other items sprawled across her bed and most of the living room, "I didn't realize I'd picked up that much stuff."

"Sue I am shocked you would ever suspect such a thing of me," Topaz said with a hand over heart for added effect. The amusement faded slightly when she saw how much they had to pack. "Blimey. I can see why you need help. You don't have to fit all of this into a dorm room, do you?"

"Oh god no, can you imagine trying to fit even half of this into one cupboard completely impossible...unless" Sue gave Topaz a speculative look, "How's your enchanting practice going?" she asked with a teasing grin.

"I'm not making a room bigger on the inside," Topaz replied at once, but she was smirking. "I'm also not shrinkin' any of your stuff, though I'm not exactly sure how that would be helpful in the long run. Figure it's better to cover all my bases with this one though."

"Aha!" Sue exclaimed triumphantly, "You didn't say you wouldn't link my cupboard to my wardrobe at home though." She grinned at Topaz, "Think how much more useful that would be I don't have to pick what I want to take with me, it'd all be there."

"You know sometimes I think I created a monster introducin' you to magic," Topaz said with a bit of a smirk as she set to work with trying to sort through the mess.

"You have to admit it'd be pretty awesome," Sue pointed out as she knelt next to Topaz and eyed her possessions warily, "You know, if you see anything you like you can take it, I really don't need this much stuff."

"I'm sure if you post on the journals sayin' free stuff or somethin' people will take it off your hands for you," Topaz pointed out as she sorted through it. "No one ever says no to free."

"I guess," Sue agreed, "just never really thought of that. It's not like I'm really fighting for space," the blonde stared around the room, "present circumstances excepting, and most of this is other assorted junk." she nodded to a pile of boxes sprawled in a corner, "I don't think that many people would be interested in assorted electronics and robotic parts," she noted wryly.

"See if Clint wants them, he's into that stuff right?" Topaz asked as she picked up what looked like a robotic spider leg. "Don't even wanna know what you were buildin' here. So where are you goin' to school anyways?" She probably should have known that, but she tended to go in and out on what was going on around the mansion. At the moment she was behind.

"Maybe," Sue's eyes darted all over the room and her voice dropped to a conspiratorial whisper, "But don't you think he'll try to rip off my ideas for his own?" she asked with a grin. "I managed to get into Princeton," Sue told her friend in a more normal voice, "It's totally awesome and great but...I dunno the mansion has become like home over the last 2 years. It's hard to just leave, although a 4 hour commute everyday would just kill me."

"I wouldn't put it past him, he's a very untrustworthy person," Topaz commented with a snort. "Managed to?" She raised an eyebrow. "You make it sound like it was such a challenge. You're brilliant, they were probably beggin' you to come."

"A completely and utterly terrible person," Sue agreed with a laugh, "They weren't really begging," Sue continued blushing slightly at Topaz's compliment, "I mean they're college admissions people. Even when you're sure you'll get in it's still perhaps the single most terrifying experience of your life."

Topaz shook her head, but she was smiling as she picked up on another robot bit, twisting it idly between her fingers. "Sounds like too much to me," she said idly. "Not to mention a lot of hassle."

"It's not that bad, all the universities want pretty much the same thing so it's really not all that much work, and you know it's totally worth it when you get the letter," Sue gave Topaz a wry smile, "Or at least when you get someone else to open the letter for you. Have you thought about where you'll apply next year?" the blonde asked curiously.

The girl hesitated for a brief moment, still twisting the bit. "I dunno. Still need to decide whether or not I'm goin'." She didn't necessarily like school - it had always just been a way to stay busy and distract herself. What was the point of continuing it when she had no idea what she wanted to do?

"Well what do you want to do?" Sue asked pausing in the middle of folding a t-shirt, "I mean I could tell you how important it is and how it sets you up for a better life later but," she smiled wryly at her friend, "I'm betting you've heard that all before." The blonde shrugged, "It's all of that, but it really isn't something you should do unless you want to. 4 years is a long time to spend on anything."

Topaz looked up from the robot bits, tilting her head. "I dunno," she said finally. "Never really thought about what I wanted to do after school and everythin'." Her entire life since the age of eight had been about magic, with school on the side. And while she was good at school, she wasn't necessarily interested in it.

"It kinda feels like school will never end, until bang it's over," Sue agreed, "Do you have any idea what you'd like to do after all this? I don't mean what makes esne to you but a dream, something you thought about being as a kid maybe?"

Topaz had to work hard not to snort at that. The only thing she'd thought about being as a kid was adopted. But Sue didn't need to know that. "I never really thought about it. Never had...ya know, dreams and all that. Wow, that sounds sad. It's not as pathetic as it sounds, I swear."

"Mmhmm," Sue teased giving Topaz a skeptical look. "Well, there is no reason why you can't start now!" Sue pointed out with a smile, "So, if you could be anything, or do anything now, what would it be?"

Go back to India. Topaz pushed that thought down quickly though. It had nothing to do with school, after all. She shrugged. "I really don't know. Don't think there are too many jobs that pay you to just read and deal with books every day. Although if Ms. Smith ever retires I'm a prime candidate to take her place."

"Aha, that is where you're wrong," Sue replied excitedly, "You could totally be a book critic! Think about it people would pay you to read their books and tell them what you thought, and you'd get all the books you wanted for free."

Topaz laughed at that. "Yeah, maybe," she gave in for that. "I don't know. I've still got at least the summer to decide, at least."

"That's less time than you think," Sue countered with a laugh, "I thought I had months to pack all this stuff, now I'm scrambling to gt it done before we leave."

"Time flies when you're havin' fun," Topaz commented dryly. "Speakin' of which, we should probably get this stuff done before you leave, huh?"

Sue looked around the mess which covered the living room and sighed, "We probably should, she agreed, "But procrastinating is just so much more fun," she countered with a laugh.

"And that is why you're scrambling to pack now," Topaz teased back.
