Tandy meets up with Artie in the city for a favor.

"224 W 20th St." Tandy whispered looking up at the Cafe before heading in. She had agreed to meet Artie here the day before as she had asked him for help. Shifting her bag over her shoulder, Tandy walked into the cafe and looked around for the familiar face. Maybe she was early?

She wasn't early but Artie was - he'd arrived half an hour earlier to take advantage of a rare break in his day. He had a small sketchbook in his hand and was doing quick sketches of the other cafe patrons and gave Tandy a slightly sarcastic smile as she arrived. "I'll have an iced tea and a piece of key lime pie" he told her as she came up to the table.

Tandy returned with a smirk before going up to order for them. She returned a minute later with the two drink and the waitress was behind her with the pie. "Key lime pie?"

He took a moment with his synthesizer and indicated the remains of a sandwich. "I've already had lunch and they do a good one. Now, you okay after everything?"

Tandy reached over and touched her shoulder where the mark was burned into her skin. "Professor said that my mind is mine. No one else is there...I just have..." She paused and looked up at him. "I am just a little banged up."

Artie nodded sympathetically, memories of Annalee's...possession, brainwashing... whathaveyou surfacing for a moment and sighed, cutting the pie in half, pushing it over to her, even as he noted the stitches near her hairline. "Eat pie. Feel better."

"Thanks." Tandy said when he pushed over half of the pie towards her and smiled a bit at his gesture "So you were in New Mexico? What were you doing there?"

Artie looked at her blandly and signed "work" before switching to the synthesizer. "Mostly work and that's all I'll say about it. For all you know, Albuquerque is a cover and really, I was in Beirut." A pause. "I wasn't in Beirut. I was in New Mexico and it's hot as balls down there."

"Fair enough." Tandy said in response to where he was really. "Never been so I'll take your word for it." Tandy picked up a fork and twirled it in her hand. "Pretty awesome that work sends you places." Tandy liked to travel but was going to stick close to home for awhile. "Are you planning on visiting Sarah soon?"

Artie shrugged. Maybe. "Why? You want another trip down to the sewers?" He finished the iced tea and pushed the tumbler over to one side of the table.

"I was just wondering." Tandy looked back at the pie as she put her fork into it. "I had been thinking about her and the others."

Artie looked across at Tandy, his face absolutely blank and raised his eyebrows questioningly, unwilling to type out the "why were you thinking about them?" She could sign well enough to understand what he meant. He had to wonder - did he push her, the little rich girl who enjoyed slumming with the sewer mutants but who had also had a pretty damn shitty week, what with possession and all or did he let it go?

"When you are on the verge of destroying a city you tend to think about the people who live in it and underneath it." Looking around the cafe wondering if anyone else heard that.

"Fair enough." Artie gave a brief shrug, trying not to imagine what that must have felt like. "They're okay. For the usual given value of okay."

"That is good. If you need an extra body to help...let me know." She finally took a bite of the key lime pie. "Now I understand..."

"What? You did a bad thing and now you get what it's like to be a mutant that's so burned out on society that you go live in the fucking sewers?" Artie asked, going for projected text this time, letting it flash up in front of her eyes.

"No. I will never be able to know how hard they struggle." Rubbing her temple. "Why do you assume the worst? Just want to help."

He shrugged. "It isn't just you." Another shrug. "I'll let you know if we're doing anything for them other than the usual."

"I understand. Trust can be kind of fickle." Tandy said. She didn't trust most adults, especially the female kind. Only Adrienne can hold that title of being trustworthy. "So what do you want in exchange for helping me out?"

"You can owe me a favour."

"I can do that. A favor for a favor." Tandy reached into her back and pulled out the card.
