Tandy & Julian- Bowler Dinner
Sep. 26th, 2014 07:20 pmJulian & Tandy have dinner in the city- with the paparazzi.
Julian took a sip of his wine, the table was well appointed and the restaurant had taken good care of them- he suspected the waiter knew who he and Tandy were and was angling for a large tip. "How's your dri-" he looked across to his companion who was making a rather interesting face. Looking in the direction she was looking- over his shoulder- he spotted the maitre d' ushering someone out. "Again?"
Tandy started to laugh as she picked up her drink and took a sip watching the person being ushered out. "Of course. But I figured if I make silly faces they would eventually stop."
Julian snorted, a habit from his youth that he usually controlled, "The people who buy those photos will pay for the worst ones they can find- don't be surprised if there's a super-market tabloid with your photo on the front asking if you're possessed-" he winced, slightly, realizing too late what he'd just said. "That was tactless of me, not what I meant to say...well it was, but I should have thought..." he looked down, and muttered, "sorry."
"Well at least they get their monies worth." Tan looked at Julian when he apologized for what he said. "It is okay. Really." She gave him a smile but didn't go back to the topic of her recent past. "The drink is good since you were about to ask."
Still abashed, Julian took a drink of his, "Glad to hear it. Thanks for coming out with me- I always feel like a good meal when I'm considering spending a large sum of money." The meeting with the owner of Silver had been quick, a prospectus was thrust into his hand and some numbers were gone over. The club was healthy, he just wanted to get out of the business- and Julian was in dire need of a revenue stream, as the party the week before had cost nearly $400,000 when all was said and done.
"Still can't believe you are going to buy a nightclub but I guess I can get through the door for free right?" Tandy smirked. "But regardless I never turn down food. Especially a fine establishment as this, never eaten here."
"I've only been here once before, I think...," he looked around, "yeah, pretty sure." It had been during the period of time right after Nico had broken up with him, when he had been drinking heavily and partying too much- all those interactions ran together. Still, he was glad to be here with someone and be conscious of it, "So, you were saying about your modeling career?"
"Don't remember?" Tandy cleared her throat a bit. "I wouldn't call it a career. I have done some shoots for fun and I have filled in for models for my mother's line but not much. I just kind of inherited the fashion business when she died."
"I can't imagine what that was like for you," Julian took an uncomfortable sip of wine. "I lost my dad to the corrections system, but I know its not the same." They'd spoken briefly about her mother over hot chocolate, "What about other family? Should I worry about some older brother coming to beat me up?"
"My family is a cluster fuck. But I am an only child. I have an Uncle who lives in New York and is a priest, the church near District X. And my birth dad is in the Vault, I don't know anything about him. Just that he is crazy, a murder and used to work for SHIELD."
Julian made a mental note to see what he could find out about her dad, then raised his glass toward Tandy, "Here's to having crappy fathers." Taking a sip he set his drink back down, then noticed a camera flash over her shoulder. Deciding to get in on the fun he made a series of rather unattractive faces toward the photographer as the house security moved in to remove him.
Tandy raised her glass but hoped that hers would either die from another inmate or would rot forever. She knew his trial was coming up as one of the representatives had contacted her. Her thoughts came back when Julian made a funny face and she just started to laugh. "That look totally suites you." She wasn't serious just teasing.
"Thank you, I was thinking of getting facial reconstruction surgery to make it stay like that, but the doctors advised against it," he smirked and took another sip. "We do certainly seem to be a hot commodity."
"I wonder why?" Tandy lifted her water and took another sip. "Well your name has been in the newspaper recently. I am just another blonde unless you are really into high fashion."
"I'm not into it, into it, but you're an heiress too, aren't you? Didn't you say your mom's company was fairly successful?" He could have sworn she had, but it was beside the point, "I'm certain you've had your fair share of page six exposure."
"Yes. MC Designs. They have lines in all the major fashion shows. We have offices in Ohio, California, and here. My mother was a socialite for sure. We never had a close bond so she didn't mention me that much. It wasn't until after her murder when I was trusted into the spotlight. My step - fathers family owns a vineyard and I am to inherit a small portion of that. And my birth father family were apparently military and were into politics, I will be inheriting their fortune as well. I was in a lot of wills apparently. My Uncle is the only cool one. He may be a priest but he kind of always remembered I existed." Tandy looked over at him. "My life story. You have no idea how many journalists want that story but I never gave an interview. Mutants are also a sore subject for a lot of people."
"Mutants with money, even more so- believe me, I know what you mean. My family exiled me to Xavier's when I got into a fight at school- the same school that looked the other way whenever Doreen Green would get shoved into a locker." The fact he'd participated in the torment of one of his best friends was omitted, "They hated that I was a mutant- we, the New Mutants, went out there to visit once and they conveniently forgot to tell me they were taking a vacation at the same time." Julian paused as their waiter brought more bread sticks and apologized for the wait on their food before scurrying off again, "All I had to do to win them back was save them from a deranged drug lord...and even then my dad was still funding numerous anti-mutant terrorists." With a smooth motion, the ex-scion finished his drink, "So, yeah, I think we may tie on the whole fucked-up families thing."
"And I would expect," he refilled his glass, "that you will be getting your picture taken a lot more now that you're of age, and romantically linked to a disgraced millionaire."
"Dori?" Tandy said in surprised. She always liked her and the little squirrel that would always be around her. "It is funny that there people out there that just does things that will be their downfall. Like they really believe they can get away with things." The blonde picked up a breadstick and looked at it for a few moments. "Romantically linked." She laughed again. "Sorry. I don't mean to laugh it's just funny. And I've been in worse company."
"The newspapers words," Julian held up his hands, "but you are right, it could have been much worse. We have a surprisingly similar background, you're a wonderful conversationalist and- if I may- you are quite lovely." He grabbed a bread stick from the basket, and placed it on his plate, breaking off a small bit of it. "I'm a bit curious about one thing though...your powers. What are they exactly? I've heard, something to do with light or something." He popped the bit of bread into his mouth to stop himself talking.
"You are sweet." Tandy said when he gave her a compliment. "I tend to get along with the majority of the people. Mostly because I don't fake it." She took a small bite of the delicious breadstick as he asked her about her powers. "Yes. I call them Light Daggers. They take shape of daggers whenever I throw them from my fingertips. I heard being hit by one of them is very painful. They don't make people bleed though, kind of like hit your inner light - I think it is a life force I hit. I have put four people in a coma because of it." She took another bit and swallowed before continuing. "It is kind of weird, like I get really really sick if I don't unleash my daggers at least once a week. I found that out the hard way. I also know that I don't get drunk and medication doesn't work unless it is a high prescription. I healed Sue from poison last year - but I don't know what that is really about. What about you? I think you came unto the roof to fly right?"
"Interesting," he finished the breadstick, which he'd been happily chomping on while she spoke. "Actually, it's refreshing to be be asked what mine entail, everyone seems to think telekinetics are the same." With a shrug Julian continued, "I move heavy things with my mind and have been working on moving light things- including myself. I..." he blushed slightly, "I can't take anyone with me yet- and I, um....." He leaned in across the table, and whispered, "I can't land yet."
"I know they aren't. Every mutant is unique in their own way." She gave him a wide eye look when he said he couldn't land. "So...how do you land? Just land in the lake? That would be kind of fun actually."
"Lakes, oceans, beaches- something soft perferably. I'd love to have a landing pad made of cotton balls or cashmere, but I need to learn. Fortunately, I have shields that seem to throw themselves up when the ground is rushing at me, so even when I crash, I'm fine." He shifted slightly, raising a glass to another photographer before looking back to Tandy, "If someone is with me and doesn't have shielding..." he shrugged, leaving the result hang there.
"Why don't you bring a parachute with you when you go flying? I am sure that would probably be a lot easier to land. I mean if I could fly I would totally bring one of those with me." She smirked a bit. "One second..." She got up and walked over to one of the waitress before disappearing behind a wall and reappearing a few second later. "Okay. Where were we?"
It was odd behavior, "Parachutes," but Julian decided to see what would happen from it. "It's not a bad idea...I could start a base jumping business- care to be my first customer?"
"You would get a line out the door. I never gone parachuting before, but it should be kind of fun right?"
"How about we find out?" Julian grinned...then a thought occurred to him, "Where do I even buy a parachute? I guess I could steal one off the X-Jet, but...I'd rather not get on Scott's bad side, you know?"
"Who said he will find out? You know how to get into the basement?"
Julian's grin returned, "Yes, though you know the moment I remove a couple of them, they're going to take off and then need them because something went horribly wrong and then...." Clearing his throat, he did his best impression of Scott, "You should not have done that, Julian- you're grounded."
"I have only been to the med bay but never really got to explore down below. I have heard the rumors. But who said you have to remove a couple of them? I am sure only one or two would suffice. And just don't get caught, and can they really ground a grown man?"
"You'd be surprised," Julian chuckled, "Doctor Grey-Summers can be fairly intimidating when she wants to be. Although, I suppose, I'm not part of the X-team anymore, so maybe not grounded so much as booted out of the mansion. Fortunately, I have a place in the city." He took another sip of his drink, "Would you be interested in an after dinner sky-diving adventure, Miss Bowen?"
"I can see the Doc being pretty scary at times but she overall nice." Tandy thought about it for half a second. "Do you know how to use a parachute?"
"Fall. Pull chord. Land?" Julian shrugged, "I mean, how hard can it be?" Absently, he wondered if any sky-diving places were open at night- or where one would buy a parachute if they didn't want to barrow-without-permission from the jet below the school.
"Okay. As long as you drop me over something soft. If I die I want it to be on a pile of feathers or hay." Tandy smirked a bit. She was actually going to let him do this to her.
Julian smirked and looked around the room, no camera flashes were evident, but they had quite a few heads turned. "We can do it over the lake, and don't worry, I won't let you get hurt." He hoped his nervousness wasn't showing.
"Oh good. If I come back with a broken arm Adri will ask questions. Or maybe murder, death, kill first and then ask questions."
Laughing, "Yes, that sounds about right- she wouldn't even need to ask questions, right? Just touch my corpse, which sounds weirder when you say it outloud." His laughter tappering off into a chuckle, he leaned forward and looked into Tandy's eyes, "You know, she terrified me when I was a student. But today, she was pretty cool- it was a bit weird." Julian's eyebrows rose slightly, "She even said she was cool with us dating."
"I have heard that she is terrifying. She is actually an old friend of my mother but she is way cooler. There is no use hiding information from her. She has her ways of finding out, but usually she is cool with it." She smirked but it faded slightly as she looked away for a moment, "Ah yes, did she say that when you were half naked earlier?"
A blush spread to his cheeks, as he muttered, "It was around that time, yeah." A smile crept back to his lips, "I noticed you sure took your time backing out of the room."
"She seriously needs to invest in a sign. I hate walking in on people. No, I wouldn't say I was taking my time. I believed I wasn't in there for no more than three seconds." Tandy was refusing to look at him.
Julian chucked, "Tandy, it's okay. I wasn't expecting you to walk in, but I had my boxers on, I mean, I wear less when I'm swimming." He leaned forward and touched her hand lightly, "I didn't mean to embarrass you, really." With a slight smirk and a tilt of his head, he added, "If it helps at all, you could let me see you half naked."
Bad thoughts bad. "Oh look food." Tandy quickly changed the subject as their dishes finally arrived. "I am starved. Also I don't think we have to worry about pictures of the rest of the night. I took care of it. Or least in here."
"How did you...", Julian waited for the server to leave before pressing the question. Once the young man finally left- and it took a while, he was very attentive toward Tandy- he continued, "How did you manage that?"
"Julian. A girl never reveals her secrets." She smiled sweetly before taking a bite of the food in front of her.
With a smirk, Julian gave her a slight nod and raised his glass to her- she certainly was entitled to that.
Julian took a sip of his wine, the table was well appointed and the restaurant had taken good care of them- he suspected the waiter knew who he and Tandy were and was angling for a large tip.
