Megan and Sarah catch up over ice cream.

"Pumpkin spice gelato? I'm not normally a pumpkin spice person, but that looks pretty good," Megan said to Sarah as she examined the gelato and ice cream flavors in the case. They had entered a cafe in an artsy part of town, near the small four-screen movie theatre where they'd just seen a foreign film. It had been a while since the girls had hung out. Megan appreciated that Sarah liked strange films. She realized she'd missed her a lot and they had a lot of catching up to do. Enjoying some frozen treats on one of the last days of summer seemed like a great way to do just that.

"It does look really good, doesn't it?" Sarah was a fan of just about any and all ice cream and like a good sized portion of the populace anything pumpkin flavoured was really appealing right about now. "I think that's what I'm gonna get, actually. I mean, how can it not go well, right?" She was really glad about getting to hang out with one of her best friends as well, it'd been far too long indeed. The movie had been icing on the cake, even, and the ice cream, well, even more icing. "So that was a great film, huh? It's been way too long since I saw anything, thanks for much for this, by the way."

"No problem, thanks for coming with me!" Megan answered. Then, to the cashier, "Make mine a double-scoop with pumpkin spice gelato and vanilla. I kind of forgot to eat anything earlier today."

The girls took their scoops and found a spot to sit. The white walls were decorated with over-sized images of fruits and their table top was even made to look like an orange slice. It was a cheery and stark contrast to the somewhat dark film they'd just watched.

"It has been way too long - for everything," Megan picked up their conversation. "How have you been?"

"Ok, I guess. It's been a bit of a rough summer but I've had worse, heh." Genosha of course being the worst, but this summer hadn't been the best either. Her relationship with Layla had finally come to a close, and as a result she'd essentially holed up in her room while she wasn't working for practically the whole time. "It'll be ok though, and ice cream helps." She grinned and ate some of her cone. "How about you, how's your summer been?"

"Ice cream is the best," Megan agreed, guessing that her friend didn't want to talk about Layla. She began mixing her two flavors together with a spoon. Hopefully it was going to taste like pumpkin pie with vanilla ice cream. "My summer's been interesting. I can't seem to catch a break from demons - not the inner kind, the literal kind." She took a bite. Yep, just like pumpkin pie with vanilla ice cream. "Well, maybe some of the inner kind, too. The art fair fiasco didn't involve demons, just chalk monsters. But, I finally started painting again, so that's good, even though it's too late to submit my portfolio to art schools this year."

"Oh, did you? That's awesome Megan, I'm glad to hear that!" Sarah replied, wiping some ice cream from the corner of her mouth with a napkin. "The painting, I mean, not the chalk monsters because ugh." She hadn't had to deal with anything like that for awhile but it sucked that her friends had. "You can totally build up your portfolio though, you have a ton of time to get one done for next year now, right?"

"Yep, plenty of time. I am only taking one class at the mansion besides working part-time at eVolution. Are you still working at the one place...?" Megan couldn't quite remember and felt a twinge of guilt. She started sculpting her food into a perfect spiral.

"With XFI, yeah. It's going well, I really like it there." She still liked it well enough, though she'd have to cut back on her hours again now that school had started back up. "What class are you taking? And that's cool that you're still working there, it seems like a really neat place to work."

"That's the name. XFI, the investigations place. That's awesome - it sounds really cool." She could easily picture Sarah doing spy-level stuff with her computer and networking skills. "Retail has its moments. Mostly I just like to see all the new stuff when it comes in. I thought about going to fashion school, but now I don't know if I really want to design clothes. I think I just want to do art, even though that seems difficult? The class I'm taking right now is Amanda's class for powers training - and that's pretty difficult, too. I think my heart likes difficult places."

"That's it, yup! And it's a cool place, though I'm just answering the phones and stuff." She shrugged. It wasn't any cooler because of her, but she'd be lying if Sarah said she never thought about one day being able to contribute more to the place. "Art is awesome, and you're awesome, so you'll be just fine, I know it. And aww." Sarah grinned at that last expression, which made her want to give her friend a hug. She settled for reaching out and patting her hand instead, what with the table in the way and the ice cream and stuff.

"Thanks," Megan replied with a smile. "Well, we won't know what awesome stuff each of us are up to if we don't see each other very often! I'm terrible, I rarely respond on the communications network. Although, I did see your message about Star Wars Episode VII." She giggled. "I'm convinced that it's a carefully crafted marketing machine. But, who knows, maybe it will turn out to have a cool story anyway."

"Ohmygosh, I really really hope so. The universe owes me, throw me something good for a change would you?" She gave an exaggerated sigh though she really did feel that life had been letting her down for awhile now, truth be told. "Nothing I can do about it anyway, so only time will tell, right?" Sarah took another bite of her ice cream. "We should totally come here more often, by the way, this stuff is awesome."

"It's time for something good, Sarah - I can feel it." She definitely felt change in the wind, and she liked to think it was for the good. She then picked up her spoon again to finish off the last bite. "And this is really good. I agree, we'll have to do this again."

"Y'know, I think you're right." She really hoped that her friend was, at least. "Perfect, let's make it a regular thing then. At least until we've tried every different flavour of ice cream they have here. Er, maybe twice, even, because dang."

"Every flavor," Megan agreed as they gathered their things. "Plus who knows what interesting films might show up at that theater, too? At least, until Episode VII comes out."

"Oh, do not get me started on that!" Sarah said with a laugh. When it came to that she could go on for hours if given the opportunity. "Though I did hear something interesting the other day..." she started as they headed for the exit. Whoops.

"Oh yeah, I was going to tell you, I really like this guy..."
