They have some time together in the hospital, sometime after the shooting.

Kurt stirred, wincing before his eyes had even opened, and immediately focused on the figure in the other bed.  "Jubilee?  Are you... all right?"

"Been better," Jubilee was sitting up in bed, her eyes focused on the small television hanging over her bed and an ear-bud in her left ear as she flicked through channels. They would have discharged her earlier considering her shoulder was as taken care of as it could be and the graze on her head from the bullet hadn't caused any brain damage. She supposed one of her friends would make a well timed joke about her being thick headed being an advantage at this point in time.
She wasn't going anywhere until she knew Kurt was okay though, and they'd soon realised that it was simply better to agree with her than risking the crazy woman popping the stitches in her arm, or having some sort of episode when she'd just suffered a traumatic head wound.

"Sitting up and talking."  He was visibly relaxing as he took in how she looked.  "It could be much worse.  Come here?"

"Don't you think we're a little too wounded for that?" Jubilee said but did as asked, gingerly pushing herself up from her seat with her good hand and walking carefully across to where Kurt lay. Her head still ached from the graze of the bullet and while a full scan had shown no brain damage, she still felt dizzy if she moved too fast.
"I almost lost you," she whispered after a moment, burying her face against the fur of his shoulder.

"But you did not", he said softly, curling an arm around her and drawing her close, careful to avoid his bandaged wound.  "Not this time."

"It's the 'this time' that always does my head in."

Jubilee sighed and rubbed her cheek against his shoulder, adjusting herself against him to get the best angle that would both avoid jostling Kurt, and her own shoulder, that while currently dulled with pain killers, wasn't exactly happy.
"Do you remember seeing the person who shot us at all?"

"Not even a glimpse", he said quietly.  "Which means probably they were not at eye level, and I think it was a rifle, not a handgun.  Did you?"

"Possibly, although I'd have to look at the slugs they took out of us to be sure."
She sighed and shivered slightly before moving closer to him, almost as if she could make their separate selves one.
"I hate that you got hurt."

"It comes with the territory, mein herz."  He was paying no attention to his wound now, all his focus on her.  "Not that it makes it less a thing to hate."

"Maybe, but this wasn't a mission, you weren't off being heroic. Urban assassination attempts are more my thing, ya know?"
She was playing with the fur on his shoulder, shifting it back and forth with the tips of her fingers.
"Soon as I find out who did this, they're worse then toast."
"They must be stopped", he agreed grimly, leaning into her touch.  "To fire on such a public place, even if you and I were the targets..."

"They didn't hit anyone but us."
Jubilee had been thinking on that between bouts of headache and general fading in and out from the drugs they'd given her. The attack had been somewhat showy, but nobody but them had been hurt. That showed some level of control, but maybe she was over thinking things - she wondered what her compatriots back at the Brownstone might have to add however.

"No", Kurt agreed after a moment of trying to focus enough to remember.  "They did not.  I wonder who it is we have upset this time."

"You get the hat and I'll start making the little slips of paper."
Jubilee's tone was wry, if a little sleepy as she closed her eyes and simply enjoyed the feel of his warm fur against her skin. She wasn't completely joking, there were any number of enemies that could have pulled off the shooting. She'd have been more inclined to point toward an enemy of the X-men, but they didn't tend toward guns - more the elaborate and grandiose 'Let's try to take over a space station' type capers. Guns were more up the alley of her people, really. Even the mutant types tended toward the sharp shooter, keen eyed types.
Unless there was magic involved, that stuff was just all sorts of 'What people were not meant to muck about with but somehow did anyway'. After the chat she and Dr Strange had had those many years ago, she tended to leave that type of shit to Amanda and Wanda, and whoever else they decided to drag with them. One day she was totally going to track down Cain and get that bucket of chicken he owed her due to that whole demon dog incident.

Kurt stroked her hair, drawing her in as close as physically possible.  "Whoever it was, they will be found - and stopped however necessary.  And for now, I am here, and I will be well, and I love you."

"You won't be saying that after I fall asleep and drool all over your shoulder."
Jubilee's eyes had closed as she enjoyed the feeling of being enclosed in Kurt's arms, as much as she knew it was an illusion of safety, that didn't stop her from enjoying it nevertheless.

"Yes, I will", he countered, amused.  "It has not changed my mind before."

"True, you are, like, extremely stubborn."
Jubilee grinned and snuggled closer into his arms.
"That is totally hot, just so's you know."

Kurt laughed quietly.  "Good to hear."
