Clint asks to investigate the rising tide of mischief directed toward anti-mutant groups and their supporters.

Clint slid all the paperwork he'd been looking over into a folder and tucked the folder under his arm as he headed for Director Brand's office. There'd been too many things lining up too perfectly recently so far as misfortune befalling various anti-mutant organizations and their figureheads. That billboard just straight up disappearing out of Times Square was ballsy, especially since none of the cameras in the area had caught more than a blue flash around the time of the disappearance.

That said, he believed it was worth investigating. Whoever was doing this - they had good intentions. The fact that no one had been harmed through all these spoke to that. But many more of these types of stunts and the public would unleash the growing tide of backlash that was, even now, barely being held in check.

Reaching the Director's office, he knocked.

"Enter." Brand's response wasn't exactly friendly by any means, but she at least didn't sound actively pissed off at something, which would make things easier. She looked up as he came in, eyebrow raising ever-so-slightly as she saw the folder under his arm. "Barton," she said by way of greeting. "You have something?"

"I think so," Clint said, nodding as he stepped inside and closed the door behind himself. Moving forward, he offered the folder to the Director. "Over the past several weeks there's been an upsurge in minor misfortunes for anti-mutant groups and their figureheads or major contributors. Rumor on the street is that this mischief is being caused by someone calling himself the Asgardian. More details in the file."

Brand took the file and paged through the contents. "Asgardian? Have you spoken to our resident expert?" she asked, pausing to glance up at him again. "Could he be a long-lost relative of our personal thunder god?"

Clint quirked a smile. "Yeah, Thor said none of this matched the sorts of things his people would do. Y'know, we puny mortals aren't really worth their time. The descriptions we've got are vague, but he's been seen in the company of a few known vigilantes roaming the city after dark. These incidents are really starting to negatively impact every day life for... certain groups. Can I start a more in depth investigation? See if I can put a stop to this before someone gets hurt?"

"Hold your horses, Agent. I know you're eager to prove yourself, but we have protocol. Is there any specific reason to believe it's magic-related? It could be another mutant looking to get payback."

"Whoever it is did appear to call down lightning. While there are documented cases of mutants with the ability to control the weather and direct energy blasts like what's described in the report, there's still the possibility that it could be some kind of demonic entity or the work of a group of magic users hiding behind a figurehead," Clint responded. "If it is a mutant, they should be held accountable. But if it's not, I believe it would be advantageous to head the situation off before it gets worse."

Brand snorted, and pushed the file back across her desk to Clint. "All right, Barton, launch your investigation. Report back to me if you find anything." Her tone seemed to indicate she didn't expect him to find much.

Clint grinned as he scooped up the file. "Yes, ma'am, Director. And thank you."
