Bobby and Roxy - Ice Capades
Feb. 9th, 2015 03:01 pmBobby makes an ice slide for himself and Roxy to distract her from feeling bad about her lack of control with her powers.
Roxy was still exploring Xavier's daily, trying to find places that would feel like home and people who would make this place more interesting. It was supposed to be a school for mutants, so- quite erroneously, she was beginning to realize- she'd expected it to be quite chaotic. Now she was beginning to think she was the only person here who had crazy powers malfunctions. This place was quiet as a tomb and seemed just as boring.
Singing softly to herself, her guitar slung on her back, Roxy was going down a hallway opening random doors and popping her head in to say hello to what always turned out to be empty rooms. "Chain chain chaaaaaaaain," she sang to herself as she went along, grooving to the beat she heard in her head, "chain of foooooools."
Bobby looked up from where he sat at his desk as he heard someone singing in the hallway. He was practicing the finer, more delicate use of his powers by making tiny figurines. Some of them were attempts at pop culture icons - a little Bart Simpson, a Calvin, neither done particularly well but were at least attempted. Some others may have resembled fellow students and teachers, though he'd deny that, especially the ones with their eyes crossed or tongues out. One was clearly meant to be him, larger than the rest and way too muscular to be accurate.
He stood up and went to the doorway, leaning against the frame and folding his arms as he looked out into the hallway.
"Chain of what now?"
Roxy immediately brightened and grinned. "Fools! Hi Bobby," she greeted her classmate. "Why are you sitting in an empty classroom? What classroom is that, even? Wait, is it a classroom?" The rest of the rooms in the hallway seemed to be classrooms, but maybe he'd found something more fun. Like a room filled with old arcade games or musical instruments or something.
"I, uh." he said, scratching his head. "I probably should know but it's." Bobby looked up and shrugged. "I think we use it for a study hall or whatever." There were no fun arcade games in there, sadly, or any musical instruments, not that he could play them anyway. "And I guess I'm kinda doing homework, of a sort." He held out one hand, then waved his other over it slowly, revealing a little ice stick figure when it was gone. There wasn't a ton of detail to it but that took time, after all.
"Tada!" he said, then, unsure of what to do with the little ice man, Bobby extended his hand towards Roxy.
Roxy took the ice man with a grin. After a moment of holding onto it, when her brain registered that her hand felt cold, her hand became diamond up to her wrist. The feeling of it being cold went away. "Huh," she exclaimed, confused but not unhappy. She'd have to think about that more later. "You can make people with your powers? That's awesome! I can't even shoot diamonds where I want them to go. How'd you get so good?"
"I'd love to say years of practice, but the truth is I'm just awesome," he shamelessly replied. "Because, let's face it, I'm the coolest guy you'll ever know." Bobby grinned and leaned back against the doorframe again. "Though shooting diamonds in and of itself is pretty damn cool, I've gotta say. That's probably, like, the second coolest power here at the school. And accuracy will come with practice and time, totes."
The girl laughed at his shameless self-promotion. She liked people who knew their own strengths and weren't ashamed of them. She'd much rather be around people who were confident rather than people who were self-deprecating or pessimistic about themselves. Still, the fact that controlling his powers came so easily for him made her a little frustrated. Not resentful towards him, but just annoyed with herself for not being able to succeed in using her powers the way she so desperately wanted to. But that was something to think about another time. "D'you really think it's the second coolest? I dunno, man. I kind think flying might be second. And, sorry Ice-boy, but reading minds has gotta be number one."
"Pfft," he said, waving his hand. "Mind reading is for nerds. I mean, it has the word reading in it, for pete's sake. It's practically homework!" Bobby exclaimed, ignoring the fact that he'd just been doing a little homework himself. That hadn't been actual studying or reading, though, which was a huge difference in his mind.
"Flying is kinda cool though, yeah. Ice sliding is much more challenging and exciting though, in my humble opinion. Like your own personal roller coaster." Which was pretty awesome when you thought about it, he figured.
"Diamonds, though, that really is right up there, yeah, I do think so. And I'm not just saying that because of the whole ice-is-slang-for-diamonds thing either, though that certainly doesn't hurt."
Roxy's laugh at his comment about reading was cut off by his mention of ice sliding, which caused her eyes to widen. "You can do ice sliding? Like... make slides out of ice?!"
"Schyeah." he replied with a nod. "I mean, it's not as fast as flying, but it's still pretty awesome." Bobby was more than a little biased, of course, but that had never stopped him before.
"Can we do it?" Roxy asked excitedly. "Like, now?"
"Lady," Bobby replied, pushing his finger on top of his nose while forming a pair of ice sunglasses at the same time and sliding them into place. "I thought you'd never ask."
He gestured to a nearby open window that'd be the perfect launch point and raised an eyebrow at her, holding out one hand
"Awesome!" Roxy took his hand and followed him to the window. "Can you make, like, turns in it and stuff? Like a bobsled run? Ooo! And ice boards for us to slide down on?!"
"Now what fun would it be without things like that?" He started forming a slide in front of them, fairly steep in order to better build momentum, and also made a board for Roxy to use. He didn't need one himself, of course, plus he figured he'd be able to show off more without using one.
He formed a large bed of snow for them to end up on, then leapt out onto the first slide, whizzing down and forming the rest of the path on the way. There were several twists and turns, one ramp to jump over, and even a little loop-de-loop that culminated with the drop off into the snowpile.
Roxy's eyes widened in excitement as she saw Bobby form the slide as he went down it. She couldn't wait to try it herself. She unstrapped her guitar and set it safely away from the window. When he hit the snow pile she hurled out the window headfirst, positioning the board in front of her and managing to settle it under her chest and stomach before she hit the ice. With a whoop of joy she gathered speed as she careened down. When she went off the ramp, however, the moment of weightlessness caused the bottom to fall out of her stomach and, though she wasn't very scared, the moment of slight nervousness was enough for her powers to activate and diamonds shot in every direction. "Watch out!" she called out as she continued down the slide, giggling a little at the loop-de-loop, though some of her reckless joy had deflated a little at the prospect that she might have hurt Bobby with her diamonds.
"Are you alright?" she asked as she hit the snowbank.
"I'm fine!" Bobby called out, waving at Roxy for emphasis. He'd made an ice shield reflexively when the diamonds began flying and one was embedded of it; it likely would've missed him anyway but better safe than sorry.
He peered at the shard and his eyes went wide as the wheels in his head slowly began to turn. "Dude, could I sell this? I mean, is this worth money?!" Bobby looked around for more of the diamonds, dollar signs in his eyes.
Roxy laughed, forgetting her worry. "Only if you get the money in the next few minutes. They're organic diamonds. They aren't worth much. And they disintegrate in a few minutes. Sorry. Everything I do with my powers is really lame."
"Oh." he replied with a frown. There really was no such thing as a free lunch, Bobby figured, though he coated the diamond in a thin layer of ice as he plucked it out of his shield. That'd allow it to live on in ice form for at least a little while longer, and he held it up to one eye, squinting at it as if he knew how to appraise the real deal. Which he didn't, but shh. "Nah, that's still hella cool, Roxy." He grinned and tossed the iced diamond over to her.
Roxy tried to catch the iced diamond, but her hand-eye coordination left much to be desired, and it fell into the snow next to her. She retrieved it, slightly embarrassed. "It'll definitely be cool once I learn to control it like you do with your ice," she assured him, sounding determined. "Maybe hanging out with you will make my powers learn to smarten up. Wanna go again?" she asked eagerly, gesturing to the slide.
"It'll come in time, kid, don't worry about it." he said to his fellow student who was more or less the same age as him. "And yeah, totally! Let's do it up, maybe add in another loop or something!" Bobby headed back to the start of their little course, already thinking of things to add or change to it as they went.
