Wade tells Scott he's leaving for a while.
Since his sparring with North, Wade had been busy. He'd gotten contracts set up for himself an a 'guest,' made travel arrangements, had a package mailed to a PO box in South Sudan, touched base with his contact in Zaire, and managed to figure out that Doug would be in a suite with Laurie some time before 1800 so he could talk to them before meeting up with the German. He had one thing he needed to do before he headed off for that - he wasn't looking forward to either of the conversations he would be having in the near future.
At least North didn't talk much.
He'd checked the offices and the suite Scott was supposed to be using, the Danger Room, the garage, the attic - anywhere the mercenary thought he might be able to find him. He'd had no luck. Scott's bike and car were parked where they always were. His office was empty - so was the suite. The other man wasn't lurking in any hallways, wasn't in the medlab - out of sheer desperation, that sense of time slipping through his fingers, Wade headed to the last place he'd've thought Scott would go.
The Box.
And yet, despite the unlikelihood of it, that's precisely where Wade found him. He gave the slightly opened door a perfunctory knock and then nudged his way inside. "Summers."
Scott's eyes flicked open blinking against now bright lights illuminating the dark room around the silhouette of the man in the doorway. "Wade?" Scott blinked and squinted at the man in the doorway before he flung his hand out, feeling along the wall for the light switch. "Did you need the room for something?" he asked his brain still firing up from the nap had had been taking.
"Nah," Wade said, shaking his head as the lights flickered on. "I just needed to let you know I'm leaving with North tonight, 1800. Not sure how long we'll be gone."
Scott blinked owlishly at the other man, it sounded like he had said..."You're leaving?!" he asked, mystified. Sitting up, he stared in consternation at Wade. "What? Why?"
"Yeah," Wade confirmed. "Leaving. This evening. Me and North. Just figured I'd let you know."
Scott rubbed the last of his drowsiness and gave the other man an inquiring look, this wasn't what he'd expected to hear at all. Maybe plans to perk everyone up, but not that Wade was just leaving, "Where? What's happened?"
"You know what happened," Wade gave the other man a significant look. "So I'm leaving. For a bit. Clear my head."
"I..." A part of Scott wanted to agree with Wade, to ask him to take him with him away from the mansion but, "Where are you thinking about going?"
A sardonic smile curled up the corner of Wade's mouth. "Probably best I don't tell you, Slick. Plausible deniability and all."
"I..." Scott opened his mouth then closed it again, "It's like that?" he asked with a wry smile, "Just tell me I'm not gonna hear something about a mysterious swathe of destruction on the news."
"Can't tell you that," Wade said, shaking his head. "Might want to avoid the news for a while."
Scott just stared at Wade and shook his head, "Oh god, just...promise me you won't try to get yourself into anything you can't get out of? If anything happens, who else am I gonna rebuild classic cars with?"
Wade quirked a slightly incredulous brow but refrained from saying any of the things currently circulating through his brain. "Don't worry, Summers. I'm basically impossible to kill. Gotta jet, though. Need to have this conversation with a few other people."
"'Basically' isn't the same thing as 'actually' Wade," Scott warned, he'd already lost too much to bear the thought of loosing a friend, even one as unique as Wade. "If you need, if things go wrong, just let me know, yeah? I'll bring the whole team screaming down on top of whoever."
The mercenary hadn't actually been expecting an offer like that from Summers. It was nice, in an odd way. "You got it, Slick." He gave the other man a small salute before turning and heading for the suite Amanda and Marie-Ange were sharing with Doug and Laurie.
