Tandy and Roxy - Meeting (Backdated)
Apr. 16th, 2015 10:31 amRoxy and Tandy meet at Boiler Beach and Tandy finds someone willing to be her Sifu for 'knife' throwing.
Roxy hadn't been at Xavier's for very long, but she'd already decided that Boiler Beach was her favourite place. It was warm and it was soundproofed. What more could a person want?
She'd lost track of how long she'd been here this time, in another world sprawled out on a towel in the sand with her guitar, singing whatever popped into her head. Currently it was a slowed down, soulful version of Taylor Swift's Out of the Woods. "Remember when you hit the brakes too soon?" she sang as she strummed, "twenty stitches in the hospital room... When you started cryin', baby, I did, too. But when the sun came up, I was lookin' at you..."
Tandy was still trying to get still trying to get accustomed of being back in Midgard - Earth. Rubbing her temples as she took the elevator down to the boiler room. She had been gone for four years but here it was just a matter of weeks. She felt out of place but she was back at home. It was just tough coming back as a 22 year old when she should be an 18 year old by all accounts.
As the door opened she looked up to hear a song she hadn't heard in years. Taylor Swift? She followed the voice till she came to one of the newer residents of the mansion. It was the same girl that she met during the team exercise outside when she went looking for Julian. The girl had a pretty good throwing arm. "Remember when we couldn't take the heat I walked out and said, "I'm settin' you free..." Tandy sang the next line of the verse, it really been a long time since she heard it but it was familiar. Another reassurance she was back home.
Roxy jumped when she heard the other voice join in, but it would have been rude to stop playing, so she finished strumming the verse and sang the chorus with the blonde girl who'd just walked in and then set the guitar down, grinning. Roxy recognized her as the girl they'd 'fought' during the snowball fight, but she didn't know much else about her. "You've got a good tone," she complimented Tandy with a nod, and followed it up with a sheepish "hi." The blonde was pretty so she smiled a little more.
"I could say the same as you. Did you take lessons?" Tandy walked over and took a seat on the sand nearby. "Tandy. Sorry I just butted in. You are Roxy right? I remember you from the other day."
It was rare that Roxy got asked if she took lessons. Most people who knew her also knew who her parents were. But maybe Tandy didn't actually know who she was- maybe she just remembered her name from the other day. Maybe she'd been living under a rock or something. "Oh yeah, I remember. Tandy. No worries," she responded, waving off Tandy's apology. "I don't get to do a lot of duets. It's fun. And yeah, I took lessons a million years ago. Nice beach, huh?" she asked, gesturing to the boiler room as she strummed random chords absentmindedly.
"Anytime any where, if you need an extra for a duet I'll be there." Tandy looked around and nodded, "Yeah. I knew it was down here but never been down here."
"Good to know!" Roxy replied happily, wondering vaguely if the blonde was flirting with her. "Never? Are you new, too?"
"No. I been here since I was...." Tandy looked down at the sand, wait, the mansion has it been around that long? "I have been here for a long time." She settled with.
"But you never came down here? Weird!" But Roxy shrugged it off. "It's cool you came now though. And that you like Taylor Swift," she added, her strumming stopping so she could retune a string. "What do you think of this new album?"
"I have a Guardian who loves her." She said fondly, "She has a new one?" She shook her head. "Sorry. Sometimes I feel like I took a hit to the head."
"New one?" Roxy frowned. "No, I mean this one. The one with the song we were singing on it?"
"1989. That is right." She scratched the back of her head. "So, what brings you to the mansion?"
Shrugging off the weirdness of this pretty girl thinking Taylor had another new album, Roxy wrinkled her nose. "Have you ever seen a cartoon called Avatar?" she asked.
"The last Air Bender? Of course" She nodded, "Have you seen the new one?"
"Korra? Yeah," Roxy smiled. "But I'm more like Toph. I shoot diamonds out of my hands. And I can, like, coat my hands in diamond. To make them invulnerable or whatever. But I can't control it. I need to learn how to bend properly." She gave Tandy a rueful smile at that. "That's why I'm here. What about you?"
"Hm. Like a Miss Frost Mini Me. Excellent." Tandy lifted up her hand and allowed one dagger form and then let it disappear. "Light daggers."
"Whaaaaaat?" Roxy squealed and rose to her knees, getting closer to Tandy. "Seriously? Seriously? I mean, are you serious? Light daggers?! Can you teach me how to make daggers? I mean, I can't control my diamonds at all. They just... come out of my hands and shoot at people whenever I'm scared or pissed off. Angel's helping me learn how to control them coming out when I don't want them to, but oh em gee you are my favourite person if you can teach me how to chuck them when I actually want to! Pleeeeease? Be my Katara? Or Toph? You can be Toph if you want. Even Zuko! Yeah, maybe you're Zuko, cuz fire... light... they seem similar, right?"
Tandy couldn't help but laugh, "You sound like me. Mine used to come out as a reflex. Usually during dreams but not for a long time. But I can totally be a Zuko."
"Awesommmmme!" Roxy squealed again and hugged Tandy excited. "Ohmigod you're the best! Thank you thank you thank you! I'm gonna start calling you Sifu Tandy now. Hope you don't mind. How long have you lived here?"
"I will have to introduce you to someone. So what exactly is your powers? Is it something similar?"
Roxy cocked her head, wondering why Tandy didn't answer her question about how long she'd lived here. "Uhh...I'm not too sure," she confessed. "The shards started just before Christmas. And then the diamond hands right after that. I talked to the Professor when I first came here and he said he thinks I could eventually learn how to make my whole body into diamond armour. But for now, all I know is that when I get really upset diamonds shoot everywhere. And when I go to punch people, my hands turn into diamond hands. Who are you gonna introduce me to? The Miss Frost you mentioned before?"
"That is pretty sweet. Diamond armor. Isn't a girl's best friend supposed to be diamond?" Tandy joked. She hesitated for a moment, where was Miss Frost? Tandy made a mental note to talk to Adrienne about it. "No. Someone else. Mr. W - err Mr. Wilson. If he is still around. He taught me how to throw properly. You like it here so far?"
"It's pretty cool," Roxy shrugged, smiling at Tandy. "I actually met Mister Wilson. But he didn't say anything about how to throw properly! He's teaching me Aikido and meditation but he said nothing about throwing knives! I guess it's a good thing you're going to be my Sifu in knife-throwing, huh?" she asked happily.
"When you go to your lesson make mention of it. I am pretty sure he'll be happy to show you. But yea, if you want Asgardian knife throwing I'm your girl."
"Super cool! I have so many Sifus for all different things now, it's awesome," Roxy grinned. "So what was Asgard like? Angel told me there were frost giants? She mentioned that they looked like the ice monster Elsa made in Frozen so I told her I think we should get them hired for the Broadway show, which I'm totally gonna star in when it opens in 2017 or whenever."
"They look more like giants that are blue." Tandy laughed a bit at the thought of the ice monster from Frozen. "And I don't think they are into Broadway, maybe when hell freezes over?"
Roxy wrinkled her nose. "Why do I feel like that's not out of the realm of possibilities around here?"
"Because you have an actual classmate that can freeze himself into a snowman." Tandy smirked.
