Amanda and Bobbi meet while keeping their eyes on District X - each in her own particular way.

Since it was a nice spring day outside, Bobbi took advantage of the warm weather to head to District X and see how things were there. She had a few regular contacts there who kept her informed of local goings on and it never hurt to check in on them, see how they were doing.

On her way back from such a visit, she spied a familiar face approaching her from the other direction on the sidewalk. Bobbi slowed down and gave Amanda a little wave, coming to a stop with her hands in her pockets.

"Hey there, how goes it?"

Amanda's head snapped up and she pulled the headphones from her ears. "Hey," she said, pausing slightly while her mind caught up with her - she'd been tuned into the city and not altogether on the same level as the average pedestrian. "Bobbi, right? Sorry, I was miles away."

"That's me, and no worries." She'd seen her removing her headphones and Bobbi knew what that was like, even if she wasn't wearing any herself at the time. "Amanda." she added, to prove that she knew what the other woman's name was as well, once she realized she hadn't actually said it aloud earlier. "Out enjoying the nice weather too, I see?"

"A bit. Mostly, tho', I was just scoping things out, checking up on the folks here." Amanda shrugged a little, pushing her hair back out of her face as she looked up at the taller blonde. "And you?"

"The same, actually. I like to make the rounds every now and then, see how people are doing." It was nice to know that she wasn't the only one who did that kind of thing. "I was just on my way to grab a coffee, actually, care to join me?"

"Sure. If you don't mind taking a brief stop on the way - I've got one more marker to put up."

"Oh, ok, sure." It was why there were there, after all, doing their respective things, only Bobbi wasn't quite sure what a marker was exactly. "So... this is probably going to sound stupid, but what's a marker?"

Amanda grinned, a hint of mischief in her expression. "Well, it's going to sound pretty weird, but I'm a witch. And what I've been doing is setting up sort of safe zones around about District X. Wards, if you want to get technical. I just need to do one more marker to finish this last one." She pulled a black marker pen out of her jacket pocket and waved it at Bobbi. "Hope you don't mind a little bit of random vandalism."

While not wholly unfamiliar with the concept, especially since her days with XFI, magic was still something Bobbi struggled to grasp. Having the scientific background in which she'd earned a PhD certainly didn't help, but she really did want to keep an open mind about it. Having a chance to see some magic up close and personal was perhaps a chance to do just that. "Oh, no, sure, I'd love to see it actually. Do whatever you have to do."

To be honest, Amanda loved messing with people's perceptions of the world with regards to the magic. Especially science types. It was her own personal test to see how people coped with things. So she gave a small nod to herself, as if satisfied, before turning down an alley and pausing just out of sight of the street.

Letting her feet drop into the pavement as she called up what power New York would give her, she scribbled a circle of glyphs on the closest wall. To the uninitiated, they looked like a particularly complex graffiti 'tag', but to Amanda, they were a combination of several different protection wards that she'd combined to act as a 'safe space' for anyone threatened.

Bobbi just stood back and watched, wanting to ask the other woman at least a dozen questions or so but holding back from saying anything until she was done. She squinted at the scribbling and tried to discern just exactly what they were for but she had no idea at all.

Once Amanda was done, Bobbi looked for some kind of sign that something had been done, something added to or changed about the area. It was no surprise that she couldn't, not being adept with magic on any level, and she wondered just what it'd look or feel like to someone who could.

"Is... there something there now?" she asked, not even sure how to ask about such things, let alone know what the proper words were.

To Amanda's eyes, there was a slight shimmer in the space triangulated by this and two other glyphs she'd already done, but she knew it wouldn't show to someone who wasn't adept. She nodded. "Yeah, there is," she replied, letting herself pop back out of the pavement and stuffing the marker back in her jacket. "'S not a be all and end all, but people will notice that in this area-" She waved to the space around them. "Things feel safer. People are calmer, less inclined to get physical. I'd do a full protection ward that doesn't let violence cross it, but that would be way to conspicuous, even here."

"That's pretty amazing, wow." Bobbi replied. She still had a million and one things to ask - what kind of energy fuelled such a thing, how often could she create something like it, how big of an area could it cover, what other types of wards could she create to name a few - but she didn't want to annoy the other woman with a barrage of questions.

"And things like these are all over here, then? That's fantastic, Amanda."

A faint blush tinted Amanda's pale skin and she gave Bobbi a smile. "Well, it's what I do. But I'm glad you're impressed." The praise warmed her to the former police officer a lot more than anything else could have. "So, how about that coffee, and you can tell me about your foot patrol? I figure if we're both watching out for the X-ers here, we might as well collaborate?"

"That sounds good to me, definitely." Both the coffee and the idea of having someone else to help patrol the area, Bobbi really liked that idea. "There's a little place around the corner I believe, and this one's on me."
