Miles & Jubilee, backdated to March 22
Mar. 22nd, 2015 03:43 pmJubilee meets Miles in the gym, where he's made a makeshift obstacle course for himself.
Jubilee paused in the doorway to the gym, silently watching the younger man moving gym equipment around in what looked like the start of an obstacle course. The configuration looked much the same as she might have worked out for a good free running session - well, when she didn't have a city just next door to use anyhow.
She decided to stay quiet for a moment, and moved silently along the wall to a more shadowy spot, making herself a lot harder to spot to anyone not immediately looking.
Miles moved the pommel horse into place and then surveyed his makeshift course. With too much energy to burn off but none of the Gen X mentors around to set up the Danger Room for him, he had to make do. He started by climbing up the wall, and then sprung off. He landed on the pommel horse but immediately jumped off again, clearing half the course in a single bound to get to the steady rings. The momentum of that leap took him to the top frame of one of the weight machines.
"Nice moves, kid,"
Jubilee finally moved from the shadows and into the light, giving Miles a grin to show she was friendly.
Luckily for Miles, his hands and feet were clinging pretty tightly to the machine so the sudden appearance of someone who just had to be a teleporter – given her stealthy entrance – didn't send him falling on his face. "Uh, thanks," he said, glancing around at his course a little guiltily. "Um, I'll put this all back in a couple of minutes."
"S'cool miniature flippy dude, I'm totally just an interested observer."
Jubilee moved closer, examining some of Miles handiwork before grinning at him.
"You know, I've been thinking of getting someone to help me out making a training course in the woods. You wouldn't be interested in something like that, would you?"
"I would have no idea what that would include, but sure?" The unusually cold winter had kept him from exploring the grounds very much. A zipline didn't sound like much fun, but Tarzaning around with his webs sure did. "Um, my name's Miles."
She considered playing 'mysterious, wisdom spouting mentor' for a moment, but frankly that had always been other people's shtick. She was much more the 'leading people into awesome from the front' type.
"Jubilation Lee, at your service. You can totes call me Jubilee, or Jubes though. I'm kinda not into formal much. "And don't worry about the not knowing. Mostly I'll just get you to test out the stuff I come up with, see if it meets coolness factor and such."
"I'm definitely the person to ask if it's cool or not. I can spot wack a mile away." Miles jumped off the frame and managed two flips in midair before sticking the landing. "Are you also jumpy and flippy, then?"
"For values of flippy and jumpy, yeah. It's not like, a mutant power or anything but I do okay," Jubilee replied, a grin tilting her lips upwards. It was true, she didn't have a mutant power that gave her an advantage - but that just meant every bit of her skill and flexibility was learned and hard won. She'd always figured that was worth a little secret arrogance, even if she always planned as if she was outmatched no matter who she faced. "I do a lot of parkour and free running in the city, but I figured it might be nice to have something a little closer to home to keep my skills up on the weekends."
"Yeah, especially once it becomes actually survivable outside and not this gross, way-too-long winter. So are you also a X-Man?"
"Once upon a time, yeah," Jubilee replied with a shrug. It had been a very long time since she'd put on the black leather and gone out to save the world - she didn't regret the changes that had happened, or what her life had become, even if she did find some of the choices she'd made to get there some of the worst of her life. Still, the choice to become part of X-force, to follow Remy into the shadows was one she'd never question. "I'm like, a little less visible these days. You thinking of signing up or something?"
Miles bit his tongue so he didn't reply too quickly and make it clear just how big of a dork he really was about, well, everything. "Yeah, maybe, someday," he said coolly. Nailed it.
"Nerd," Jubilee replied, but it was said with affection. "So, what exactly are you doing to get yourself ready for applying?"
"Doing literally every Gen X activity I can get involved with, especially when Angel's running it." What better way to get scouted than to ingratiate himself to another member? "And I have some other . . . extracurricular activities that qualify me."
"Oh? So like, super sekrit life of derring do in a world that hates and fears you? Or like, working in soup kitchens and giving blankets to the homeless good Samaritan stuff?" Jubilee asked, gesturing for him to follow her over to his improvised course. "So, how fast you think I could get through this thing?"
"Sure, why not," Miles replied noncommittally. "Something like that. Um, it's not like a difficult course here. I just kind of did whatever. I guess a minute maybe for someone to get through?"
"Oh? How 'bout I give it a shot then?"
Jubilee grinned and launched herself at the first obstacle, confident that she'd need less then a minute to get through.
