Alex Summers finally finds his way back to California. Too bad his fiancee is across the country.

Twelve hours and thirteen minutes on that damn plane.

Alex yawned widely as he stepped into the terminal, blearily following the rest of his bedraggled class to the baggage pick up. They probably all should have been happy just to be back on American soil, but right then all anyone could think of was Bed. Bed now. Bed please.

And his trip wasn't even over.

Alex found his bag and dragged it off to a corner, plopping down near an outlet and plugging his phone in. Never again would he take reliable cell service for granted.

He found his fiancee's name in the contacts and hit call, smiling a bit stupidly as he put the phone to his ear.

Her phone was ringing. "Hello. X-Force Investigation. This is Lorna." She spoke into the receiver but all she got was a dial tone and a phone was still ringing. She checked her cell phone and it wasn't that one until she realized her secondary cell phone was ring. Her heart was pounding as she searched in her purse for it and saw a familiar name

"Alex! You have reception!" Lorna's voice couldn't contain her surprise and excitement. "Are you back? Where are you?" She had locked herself in an empty meeting room so her co-workers wouldn't hear her conversation.

Just the sound of Lorna's voice was enough to wake Alex up. He straightened up, grinning like an idiot. "I do! And I am! I'm at San Francisco International now, but--" He cut off with a deep yawn. "God sleeping on a plane is awful." He shook his head, blinking. "Anyways I changed my plans a bit. I'm gonna head to Nevada and check on my moms, make sure they're alright. Think you can live a few more days without me?"

"What? And you didn't call me when you got reception? How mean." She froze a bit when he said he was in San Francisco but nodded, even if he couldn't see her. "I think going to your parents are a good idea. I am not in California at the moment..." Her voice trailed off.

"Babe I just got off the plane," Alex said with a laugh, rubbing his eyes. "I promise, you're the first call I made." He frowned, however, when she said she wasn't in California. "What?" All amusement was gone from his voice. "Are you okay? Did something happen? Where are you?"

"I meant when you were about to board the plane." Lorna couldn't help but smirk a bit when he said she was the first call. "I haven't been in California since January. I am currently in New York. I rather you come to New York, after your visit to your parents of course and I'll explain everything."

Alex was a little stuck on this New York thing. "But are you okay?" He repeated. She hadn't answered that. Last time they had spoken - granted it had been a while - but last time everything had been fine. There had been no hints about a cross-country trip. This was new and he was worried.

"Yes. I am okay. I am fine now knowing you are back in the country. After M-Day and all those people dying, I was worried."

"Yeah." Alex's voice turned soft, and he ran a hand through his tousled hair. "I'm so glad to be back. I can't wait to see you again. I've missed you."

"And I missed you." There was so much she wanted to tell him at that moment but it was not safe - he didn't need to know yet until he saw her. "When is your flight to Nevada?"

Alex sighed, leaning back against the wall. "In a couple hours. I should probably start meandering my way over to the gate but god moving seems like too much work right now."

"Well look on the bright side, when I see you again I'll make sure you are relaxed." She said in her flirty voice.

His face instantly morphed into the biggest possible grin. "Stop making skipping Nevada to get to you seem so appealing," he teased. "It's not fair."

"Just think of it as a welcome back to the country reward." Lorna laughed, "Besides, your moms probably won't forgive you if you don't visit them first."

"Yeah, yeah," he sighed mockingly, acting entirely put out. "The things I do them for them, honestly."

"Two against one. They love me but they might love their son more." Lorna bite her lower lip, "That is because you are a sweetheart."

"Yeah, okay, yeah." Alex sighed again, but he was smiling. "I won't be staying too long though. Just a few days so they see I'm alive and spoil and me and feed me. I'll work on getting a ticket to you as soon as I can."

"You are always hungry. Let me know when you have the flight and times. I'll pick you up and then tell you everything."

"I'm a growing boy, Lor!" Right on cue, his stomach gave a loud growl. "Speaking of food, I think I'm gonna go track some down. I'll let you know when I get to Nevada."

"I heard that." She laughed. "Please do. And Alex, be careful and it is really good to hear your voice after all these months. I look forward to hearing about your adventures."

It was wonderful to hear her voice too. Alex closed his eyes for a moment, just enjoying it. "You be safe too. I'll talk to you later. Love you."

"Love you too."
