Angel runs into Matt at a Pride party.

The block party was in full swing for Pride and Matt had already done the obligatory 'yes, I'm Steve and Andre's nephew, yes, I've grown up very well, yes, I'm a lawyer," schpiel for every one. He didn't mind it, but it did put him in mind of a dog and pony show, a big part of these block parties and things was to catch up with people you didn't see often and while he had graduated from law school last year, he had still be studying for the bar exam. Now he had passed it, which was an accomplishment.

Now, he leaned easily against a brick wall that blocked a stairwell from the street to someone's basement apartment, a beer in hand. His cane was in front of him and he hadn't seen any reason to put it up yet since he would just be going to chat with someone else or get a snack or something eventually. His uncles were chatting on the other side of the street and he had no idea where Clint was, but he also wasn't worried about it. These things were flexible and he didn't need someone to watch over him all the time.

Angel had stumbled into the party by accident. She knew Pride was happening and she probably should have considered that before daring to venture into the city, but hey, what was life without a little bit of adventure? Besides, she was sure there was someone around here she knew.

And look at that, she was right.

"Hey Matt!" She called cheerfully as she made her way over to the man. Okay so she didn't really know him, other than crashing a roof party he'd thrown a while back but hey, it was a familiar face.

"Angel?" Matt asked, turning towards the voice. "Drink?" he offered, not that he was quite near the bar area. It was an open block party so anyone was welcome so long as they were friendly, which most people were despite the stereotype of New Yorkers.

Oh Angel knew perfectly how friendly people could be. "A drink would be lovely, actually, I've been trying to find where I can get one. This place is a madhouse, it's awesome."

"The bar should be across the street," Matt said, "Lead me?" This was one of the larger block parties for Pride, but still technically a private event, not a public one. Still, word had a way of getting around. "I wasn't aware anyone else from the school was involved in Pride."

"Sure thing," Angel said happily, offering him her arm. "I'm not really, I was just in the area. Decided to get out of the school for the day, stumbled in. Figured there was a good chance I'd find someone I know here."

"School of 50 or so, max and you were going to run into someone here? Sure," Matt agreed, slightly sarcastic, but gently so as they headed towards the bar. "Then again, for being such a big city, New York is very small like that sometimes. Anyways. What's up with you?"

"Well I ran into you, didn't I?" Angel pointed out with a smirk. "We're like ants, we manage to be everywhere. Not much up with me though. Life is good. How about you?"

"Don't you mean cockroaches?" Matt retorted, "And...Pride," he gestured vaguely around them with the hand that held his cane, "Gotta love Pride. Took most of the week off, spending it celebrating love with varying amounts of blood-alcohol. Parade is tomorrow. All good times."

"Nah, I don't wanna be a cockroach, those are nasty. Nobody makes movies about cockroaches, but there are two about ants." Angel grinned. "It looks like a lot of fun. Very colorful too."

"Franz Kafka turned into a cockroach," Matt mused. "This your first one? It's a rainbow for a reason."

"Fair. But ants are still cuter." Angel said with a bit of a smirk. "And yeah, it is, but I do know what the rainbow is for."

Well that was a start, "What do you want?" He asked as they reached the bar area. "It's a family tradition. We go all out every year."

"Ummm...how about a strawberry cocktail?" Angel shot a look around. "It's awesome, seeing all of this."

"You'll have to describe it to me," Matt replied, meaning it. The bartender got her drink, moving quickly in the space, "but yes. I'm probably the most conservatively dressed. But we march in the parade, all sorts of stuff. The social event of the season."

"Oh, well it's very colorful," Angel said. "But I more meant seeing...you know, everyone gathered like this. Not ashamed to be who they are. Showing it off, even."

Not quite what he meant, but he didn't press the lack of description either. Not everyone was adept at describing things in a way that made sense to him. As if on cue, a drag queen came dancing up, getting Matt to move his hips. Without a second though, Matt danced with her, bodies pressed together, "Ooooh, Matty!" she exclaimed when they finished, "I'd heard you'd grown up cute, but you are too much!"

Matt grinned, "Shirley?" he guessed, trying to remember her name, "Been a while. Still got the moves though!" He laughed, "This is a friend of mine, Angel. Angel, this is Shirley. Don't take drinks from her."

Angel stepped back, laughing as she watched Matt and the drag queen dance. "Nice to meet you," Angel said with a grin when Matt introduced them.

"Oh honey, you're too cute!" Shirley gushed, "You take good care of Matty. And remember, 'a lady on the streets, a freak in the sheets!'" She kissed each of Matt's cheeks and then flitted off to go dance with someone else.

Matt made a face, "Well, she hasn't changed much," he commented.

"Don't worry, I'll be sure to keep him out of trouble!" Angel called after Shirley, laughing and giving Matt a nudge. "Hey if you're happy with who you are, no need to change."

"Oh, no," Matt grinned, apparently Angel misunderstood, "She still treats me like I'm 14. That's all. I think she'd know that I'll always dance with her and whatnot."

"Might just be more fun for her to tease you."

"Probably," Matt wasn't terribly put out by it. "She taught me to dance, so blame her for my two left feet," now that Angel had her drink her hard away from the bar, "So anyways. You want to dance then?"

"After you made dancing with you sound so appealing?" Angel asked with a laugh. "How could I resist?"
