Lorna gets a phone call from the last person she's expecting to hear from.
Lorna's secondary cell phone was ringing and it took her a second to dig it out of her purse. She was expecting it to be Alex but was surprised to see it coming from his moms’ house and not his cell phone. "Hello?"
"Lorna. How nice to hear from you again." Her expectations scrambled her recognition for a moment, but the voice was certainly familiar. It just wasn't one of Alex's moms'. "Can you talk?"
She quickly looking back at the caller ID to confirm where it was coming from. "How did you find me? Where are the Ross'?" Keeping her voice calm and evenly, she was trained by the best.
Mystique gave a low chuckle. "Oh, don't worry, they're right here with me. I won't go so far as to say they're safe, but they're unharmed. For now."
"You still didn't answer my other questions. How did you find me?" If Mystique was there then there was no telling the current status of the Ross'. Her dad's right-hand woman still scared the shit out of her. "What do you want?" Somehow, Lorna already knew the answer before the question even left her lips.
"Your father would like to see you. I'd recommend getting here sooner than later."
"I am assuming if I decline then something horrible will happen to the Ross'. I know how the Brotherhood works." Lorna sighed and rubbed her forehead. "It will take me a while. I can be on the plane in the next hour. Just don't hurt them..." She could still be her father's daughter.
"That's really not up to me," Mystique replied. "Still, if you leave now and tell no one they have a good chance of remaining intact until you arrive." Her voice was casual, as if she was discussing the weather or a snarl of bad traffic. "It's up to you."
"Don't touch them. I'll be there." And with that Lorna hung up the phone. If it wasn't a cell phone she would had slammed it down.
