Alex and Lorna clean out their apartment and discuss some Important Things. Backdated to Saturday.
"Shit!"
Alex slammed the fridge door shut, backing away. "Lorna I think something was moving in there!" Okay there was a good chance he was exaggerating. But just barely.
"I believe it. Should I move the fridge to the outside?" She came up to stand right beside him. "I'm pretty sure we created life."
"I think we should just set it on fire and be done with it." Alex cautiously opened the fridge, peeking in again. "On the other hand there's like, an ecosystem in there. Living things. I would feel bad just killing them."
Okay it wasn't that bad. But it was pretty nasty to smell.
"My offer still stands." She put a mask over his head and gave him a trash bag. "You can tackle the ecosystem and I will go through the can goods. Maybe we can donate them."
Alex whined, grabbing the trash bag and the mask they'd bought and putting the mask on before daring to open the fridge all the way. "Sorry denizens of the fridge. But we want this apartment to be inhabitable someday." He started cleaning it out, saying over his shoulder, "Yeah anything we can donate we probably should."
A smirk crossed her lips as she picked up an empty box and started to fill it with cans and anything else that was unopened. "This might take us a while." She thought about it as she stepped back and allowed the cans to come out of the cupboard on their own. "Super powers for the win."
"I mean I could use mine on the fridge but I'm pretty sure we still want it in one piece," Alex replied with a smirk of his own, finishing the top shelf and working his way down. "What about our furniture? I was thinking craigslist."
"Maybe, Maybe not. It will probably still smell even with the food out of it. Like I said, I can take it outside and you can do the rest, No one needs to know."
"Except our neighbors who see a fridge magically floating along and then me blowing it up," Alex said with snort. "It just needs a good old fashioned scrubbing and we'll be good I think."
"Cover of darkness?" Lorna smirked at Alex. "But if you insist, I think the hose will reach inside the house."
"We can do this, I'm sure," Alex said determinedly, but he wrinkled his nose, taking a step back. "Eugh. Forget it. I'm taking a break." He headed into the bedroom to start packing up his clothes - god it would be nice to have clothes again - and paused at the sight of something on the dresser. He picked up the simple ring, turning it over in his fingers before going back out to Lorna. "Look what I found."
"You are funny." Lorna watched him as he left the room. She finished packing the box of canned food and started to work on their dishes. "What did you find?" She turned to see what was in his hands. "My ring..."
Alex looked down at the ring, all trace of joking gone. They'd successfully avoided talking about their relationship since that last time, just falling back into the easy pattern of being friends. "Um..." He didn't really know what to say. Words failed him at the worst of times.
"Glad to know that it is still here." Lorna usually took off her ring when she went to see her father or dealt with the Brotherhood. She had taken it off that day when she found out that the Brotherhood was onto the mole and she called her sister for help. It had happened all so quickly she didn't even come back to the apartment to get it or anything. "We haven't really talked much about where we are as an "us". My past probably put a bit of a damper on things."
"Yeah..." Alex looked down at the ring for a long moment. "I love you," he said finally, quietly. "I do. I still do. I think I always will. And I...want to be able to give this back to you, eventually."
Lorna smiled sweetly up at him before walking up to him and gave him a hug. "And I love you too. And when we are ready, we will know. I am just glad I didn't lose you forever."
Alex wound his arms tight around her, kissing the top of her head as he crushed her against his chest. "Nah, I'm pretty hard to lose. Easiest person in the world to find in a crowd," he joked with a smile.
"Must be your radiant personality." She joked with him. "Just like how I first met you at freshmen orientation."
"I just stand out," Alex grinned, looking down at her. "It's a secondary mutation. Always being noticed."
Lorna pulled away with a smirk. "Good mutation to have. But it has to have some draw backs. I'll get you a pair of those glasses with the fake nose and mustache."
Alex laughed. "Perfect. Come on, let's get back to work. Lots do."
