Log: Xavin, Rahne, Illyana and Maya
Oct. 18th, 2015 06:02 pm Backdated to Maya's first day in the suite - whatever that date was. It was a friday tho!!
Maya moves in - it goes as well as you might expect.
It was Friday night. It wasn't like Xavin had a life or anything to do so the teen had stuck a copy of Mad Max on a USB along with half a dozen episodes of Tattoo Nightmares and The 100 for when that got boring and moved it to the suite's TV and settled in in sweats and a t-shirt with a bowl of nacho cheese flavoured popcorn and the remote.
"A little help?" Maya called from the front door, arms full of suitcase, backpack and a small pot plant her Grandmother had insisted she take with her to the school. "I'm pretty sure if I try to move another step imma gonna drop something."
Rahne had already been heading in her direction - she'd heard and smelled her coming the moment the other girl had started bumping her way down the hallway. "Here, I'll take that from ye," she said softly, taking the suitcase. "I'm Rahne! The teachers gave us a wee bit of a heads up that ye were coming."
Whatever that plant was made her nose itch and she rubbed it furiously as they moved into the suite.
Rahne's erstwhile roommate, on the other hand, leaned curiously against the door frame of their room and did not offer to take anything. "Hi," Illyana said, with the air of someone speaking a foreign language poorly, even though her English was perfectly good. "What are you?"
"What the eff, Illyana? You're going to be a bitch to the new girl?" Xavin asked and hit pause because Furiosa was about to start being awesome and nope, not missing that. "She hasn't even walked in the door yet." Xavin turned to Maya and smiled. "Hey, I'm Xavin. They've got you sharing the room with me, right?"
"Hi, I'm a human the last time I looked. Although technically you could say I'm a spirit wearing a human suit," Maya replied, having to take a moment to sort out the different sounds coming through her implants. "I didn't realize this place was co-Ed."
"Uhhh..." Xavin shrugged, outwardly nonchalant. "I'm a shapeshifter?" Xavin paused, eyes shut tight and focused inward, shifting back to girl shape and tugging on a hoodie. "Better?" Shifting felt a little like wearing shoes that were a little too small sometimes.
"I guess? I mean, if you wanna be a boy, don't let me stop you," Maya replied, pulling the plant a little closer as she walked deeper into the suite. "Which room is ours?"
Xavin didn't shift back. "That one."
Illyana, having shot Rahne a by-now habitual puzzled glance, shrugged it off. "Rahne and I are in here," she said unnecessarily.
Rahne returned Illyana's look with a small smile as she put Maya's bag down next to the door that led to the other set of rooms. "I'm the one who mentioned on the journals that I turn into a wolf," she said once she had turned back around to face the other girl. She gave a sheepish smile. "Free house warming present - plenty of those sticky roll brushes that get fur off yer clothes!"
"You're a morning person, aren't you?" Maya replied, heading towards the door of her new room. "And you probably actually like the adults here."
Rahne's smile dropped slightly at the tone and she looked at Illyana and Xavin with wide eyes. "They helped me," she said slowly. "I ... I can't control my powers but they've been helping me. I mean ... the adults are ..."
She was floundering a little, unable to tell if Maya was being sarcastic in a playful way or ... in a way that was more mean?
Xavin put the popcorn bowl down and moved to stand next to Rahne, not quite glaring at Maya. "Yeah. The adults here got me out of a really bad place. Some of them are a bit much, sure, but they're alright." And you don't get to be mean to Rahne.
"They're fine," Illyana said, shrugging, although her sharp glance between Xavin and Maya took in a lot more than her outward obliviousness indicated. Skating right over any tension, she added, "Do you need food? It's free."
"Food here, or food we have to go get?" Maya asked, suspicious.
Illyana stepped slightly more in front of her doorway. "I mean, it's in the kitchen. But you can take whatever you want. We have that thing," she added, pointing at the microwave. "For heating stuff up."
"Aye," Rahne said hesitantly, keeping a worried eye on Maya. She'd felt instantly better when Xavin stood next to her and she was really grateful that Illyana managed to change the conversation. "The kitchen is open 24/7 and unless someone has their name labeled on it, the food is for anyone who wants it. Sometimes they'll put together a big dinner or order pizza or barbecue for everyone but there's nay set meal times for everyone, which is nice."
Xavin nodded. "There's stuff prepared if you can't cook or don't want to have to cook and they do like, cooking classes if you want to eat more than just pop tarts. Um, I think all the pop tarts we have in here are Illyana's." There was a pause. "So, you seen Mad Max at all? It's pretty great and I'm totes happy to go back to the start if any of y'all want to watch. Or, like, we can pick another movie."
"Does it have closed captioning?" Maya asked, taking a moment again to sort out the words. Trying to pay attention to everyone while also trying to read the words on their lips was an exercise in multi-tasking. "Um, can I have some of your pop tarts?"
Maya raised an eyebrow at Illyana, directing the last question at her.
"I don't know. What are they?" Xavin asked.
"Pop tarts?" Illyana gave Xavin a pitying look. "They're food."
"I - what? No, that wasn't what I - never mind," Xavin muttered.
Maya tried hard not to laugh but couldn't keep the smirk off her face as she gestured for the remote that Xavin held and quickly checked the information to find that the movie did indeed have English subtitles. She turned them on and handed the 'power' back to Xavin
"Sugar mostly, but yeah, food. Mind if I have some?"
During the back and forth, Rahne had slipped into her shared room with Illyana and now returned with a box of Cookies and Cream pop-tarts. It was actually her box, which is why she didn't feel as if she should run and hide for the next thousand years. "Sugar for days," she sighed happily, offering the opened box to Maya. "Ye Americans really do have the best junk food."
"We really do," Maya admitted as she took one of the pop tarts and bit into it. "So, you're from Scotland?"
She'd heard Rahne's style of accent from David Tennant on TV when he wasn't playing an American but it wasn't exactly the same.
"Aye," she said shyly. "Reverend Craig and Dr. Moira suggested I come over here when my powers manifested. There just wasn't anywhere back home where they could, ah, take care of a wolf-girl. Girl-wolf? I still haven't figured it out yet."
Xavin nodded and settled back down on the couch. "Yep. She's kind of ours now."
"Are we claiming people now? Because if so, I want to put a pin in David Tennant," Maye replied, taking a seat on one of the couches so she could face the others. Her implants didn't do a bad job of letting her hear speech but she preferred being able to read their lips as well. "Or that 'THIS IS SPARTA!' guy."
