Tandy visits Julian in the Hospital Wing.
Julian was dreaming. He was conscious of the fact he was dreaming because he was standing next to Tandy, holding her hands, and it was a warm summer day. They were both wearing fake mustaches- that was the give-away. As the sun beat down on them, warming their skin through the scant clothing they were still wearing, they tumbled through the meadow. They fell together, into the long grass where a blanket of blue-and-gold was spread for them. Nearby, the coffee maker was brewing something for them, though how it was being powered was a mater they had debated for sometime, but also hadn't, since it was a dream.
With a content sigh, Julian set his hand down, off the blanket- and felt a cold prick in the palm. A cloud began to gather over the sunshine, drowning everything in a stormy gloam. Tandy moved away as Julian brought his hand up before him, the hole in the palm was turning a putrid green as blood dripped across the white linen he was wearing. "No..." he tried to scream, but only a whisper came out. The tell-tale sound of 'snikt' came from the clouds and suddenly his hands were gone. 'Not again,' he thought, watching in horror as he was transported back to the pool side. The world going black and Tandy running away from the horror that was left of his wrists. He reached out to her, then jolted awake.
The medlab was dim compared to the vibrant world he had just inhabited. The beeping of the machines told him that his pulse was elevated. He tried to reach for the call button, but succeeded only in hitting himself with the stump that remained just above the wrist on his right hand.
"Hey. Bad dream?" Tandy leaned forward on the chair she had been sitting for the last hour. "Should I call one of the docs?" Standing up and walked to his side. "Water? Food? Kisses?"
Julian shut his eyes tightly, trying to will himself back into the meadow. After a few moments, he realized it wouldn't happen, and visibly tensed, looking down at his ruined arms again. With a sniffle, he shook his head, "M'fine."
Tandy frowned as she stepped back to pull the chair closer to his bed. "I am glad you are okay love. They didn't tell me the details as I am not on the team...Sue is looking into it." She sat down and put her own hand on his shoulder. "I'm took some time off so you can have me for as many days as you want."
He stared at her hand on his shoulder, a blank expression on his face. It hit him then, that if Tandy were the one hurt, Julian would never be able to do that for her. Tears began to form but he held them back; his posture falling to a slumped position- defeated. After a beat of silence, he raised his ruddy eyes to meet hers, "Was anyone else hurt? Did they get him?"
"I am not sure. I just heard you were injured and so I came when Doctor Grey allowed me in. Yes, he is dead." Tandy didn't know what else to say about the mission as she literally had no idea.
His posture relaxed slightly after the revaluation that the...creature, was dead. "But the others...they made it back? Jessica, Garrison, Logan?" He sniffled, tension returning to his muscles as he tried to crack his knuckles, realizing too late that he'd never do so again.
"Yes. They all made it back. Alive." Tandy frowned again. She was doing her best not to bring focus to his missing hands, but she knew that he was thinking of them. "Nick and Harley wanted to be here but there is a no puppy allowed policy. They will be so excited to see you again."
Julian nodded slightly, darkness was starting to pool around the edges of his vision again. "You're..." words were suddenly becoming much more difficult. "You'll..." his head was getting heavy and before his sentence was complete, it dipped forward and Julian once again passed into unconsciousness.
Tandy bit her lower lip as she watched Julian fall back unconscious. Touching his cheek before leaning forward and giving him a kiss on his forehead. "I'm sorry..." She whispered before settling back into her seat.
