At the local drive in theater Molly and Rogue eat food. So much food.
Best part about being friends with younger people was their enthusiasm, and no one was more enthusiastic than Molly.
A double feature creature night? At a drive in at that? Yes, please! Rogue had known exactly who to invite, and now, at midnight, sitting in a borrowed car in front of a large screen, Rogue looked around satisfyingly. "Right, so we smuggled in shakes from Steak and Shake, an obscene amount of McDonald's, candy from 7-11 and the opportunity to get more food if we want. I think we can start the movie critique, don't you?"
Molly stared at the selection with a look of pure contentment and a little bit of giddy anticipation. She bit her lip.
"Totally! This is going to be EPIC," she said with a broad grin and a tiny squee as she squirmed excitedly in her seat.
"You ever dip the fries in the shake? It's SO GOOD! I can't believe they have a Nutella milkshake."
"When I was in grad school, I swear I lived off of Wendy's frosty things and fries," Rogue responded with a grin. "So yes, I am a keen believer in mixing these amazing things." And she proceed to do just that. "This is ridiculous. Can you imagine if we had metabolism of normal people? Gawd, I'd never lose weight. Be all Roly poly". She puffed out her cheeks and laughed.
"Someone said that I burn a lot cause I lift so much. I'm starving like all the time," Molly said, dipping her fry into the shake.
"You were in grad school? That's cool! I wanna get in to ESU. Applied in January, so I'm just waiting to hear back so I can start the fall semester."
Rogue nodded. "Up in Montreal. Did my master's in counseling psychology with a specialization in art therapy. I kinda think about going for my doctorate one day but," she shrugged, "it seem more work than I really wanna do."She gave Molly a sly look. "I did apply at Bayville though, for a position as an art teacher...maybe move my way into counseling there. Be nice to use my degree."
Molly's eyes lit up. "I didn't know you did art! I make art too! But since I came back I haven't done it as much," she squinted, as an inspired look crossed her face.
"I should totally make a robot that paints! Or....I guess I could paint some stuff myself," she said, then shrugged, then sat up again quickly.
"Or both!"
Grabbing a bag of Reese's peanut butter cups, she opened one up, then eyed her fries thoughtfully, and then put four fries, two on top and two on bottom on the peanut butter cup like a sandwich before taking a bite.
"Doooof!" she said in between bites.
"Thif if goo!"
Rogue snickered. "And people think I'm not a picky eater. They sure haven't seen you eat, right?" she teased.
Molly grinned back, but since her mouth was full and it made her look like a chipmunk hoarding acorns in its mouth. She eventually finished chewing, then washed it down with a big swig of milkshake. There was no doubt that a sugar high was coming.
"I love food! Except for like....tongue or liver or like gross stuff like that. The Warriors Three tried to get me to eat bilgesnipe meat once but I didn't wanna. What's your favorite food?"
"Poutine," Rogue answered without hesitation. "Fries, gravy, delicious curds....." She closed her eyes and made a satisfied sound. "I don't mind some weird food....I mean, I am southern. I've had chitterlings, and pig's tail, and pig's feet.... Huh." She paused. " I don't think there's a part of the pig that I haven't eaten."
Molly looked decidedly grossed out by that. "That's..." she said, trying to look supportive. "Um...awesome? Poutine sounds really good though! We should have some next time."
Rogue laughed. "Ya gotta remember, lots of southern food has roots in the slave trade....and we didn't give those poor souls good food to use. They made do with scraps." She sat up and reached for her shake. "You can learn lots bout a culture from their food history."
"Like California. We do eat a lot of kale," Molly said with a giggle.
"And that explains why you're all cranky," Rogue teased. "Now I wonder if kale would be delicious deep fried..."
Squinting thoughtfully, Molly grinned. "One way to find out! Never did like kale that much anyway. It tastes like....I don't even wanna know. I bet the batter would help."
