Cecilia and Bobbi talk about books and biology.

Bobbi went to the library on Saturday morning in search of something entertaining and light to read, perhaps for her to take poolside or to the beach in an effort to relax while the weather was still warm.

Instead, she found the latest issue of The Lancet left out on a desk as she entered, and when she saw the name of her previous mentor on its cover she immediately picked it up. That had been about twenty minutes ago and she was still sitting there, reading the article featuring Dr. Wilma Calvin's latest paper.

"Knew I should have taken that to the bathroom with me." Cecilia walked into the library, a smile on her face, a coffee mug in one hand and a box of shortbread cookies in the other. She took small, slow footsteps toward the other woman, her eyes fixed on the sloshing liquid in her cup. "Though it looks like you're finding that way more interesting than I was."

Looking up at the sound of someone else speaking, Bobbi blinked once, then twice. "Oh, sorry, I should've known someone else was reading this. I was only glancing at it for a minute..." She checked her watch and realized how much time had actually elapsed. "...or twenty, give or take. Whoops."

"No, please," Cecilia waved her off after gently placing her mug on the nearest empty surface. "I've got plenty of reading to catch up on anyway. One less journal won't kill me." She extended the arm with the open box of cookies to Bobbi.

"Thanks," Bobbi said as she reached up and took a few cookies, placing them to one side of the journal on the table. "I was looking for something very different but when I saw Dr. Calvin's name I just had to check it out." She nodded down to the article to which the journal was opened. "She was my supervisor back in Stanford, which feels like forever ago now that I think about it."

She shook her head and picked up a cookie, taking a bite out of it. "What are you working on, might I ask?"

"Oh, nothing in particular," Cecilia shrugged, sitting and sliding the coffee mug toward her. A small drop or two spilled on the table, and she realized she hadn't brought any napkins with her. "I just like to read up and ponder medical mysteries, because I'm a huge nerd." She slid a cookie out of the box, dunked it into her coffee and took a bite. "Didn't know you were a scientist."

"Nothing wrong with that," Bobbi replied with a grin. "I am, I received my PhD in Biology from Stanford, under Dr. Calvin's tutelage." She glanced down at her mentor's picture in the corner of the article and smiled. "She hadn't taken on anyone as a supervisor, prior or since, so it was always kind of special, I guess." She shook her head and reached for another cookie. "Stumble upon any decent mysteries lately?"

"Nothing major," Cecilia admitted. "I mean, some stuff I can't talk about because of doctor-patient confidentiality." Not that there were really that many secrets at Xavier's. "But nothing so captivating that it demands total attention. Not lately, anyway."

"I'm sure something will come up sooner or later," Bobbi said before realizing what she'd said. "I mean, in a good way, of course," she clarified.

In a change of pace, she shut the journal and pushed it forward on the table. "Speaking of good, do you have any good book recommendations to make? For something more recreational than The Lancet."

"I'm in a bit of an old favorites phase," Cecilia admitted. She took a sip of her coffee, then shrugged. "Pride and Prejudice, Virginia Woolf, that kind of thing." Something comforting about the familiarity."

"That does sound nice and comforting," agreed Bobbi. "Maybe I'll see if I can find something familiar to reread then, hmm." The goal was to relax, after all, so something she'd already read once before would certainly fit the bill. "Besides I don't know if we have that big a selection of bodice rippers anyway." She'd read her fair share of those too, not that she'd readily admit it.

"Well, if the library doesn't, I'd bet someone here does," Cecilia smiled, reaching for another cookie. "Honestly, sometimes the most satisfying books are ones you get off that rack at the bookstore where half the books are formulaic detective stories, and the other half are sweeping romantic epics, but you're not always sure which is which."

"That's a good point," Bobbi said. She could always ask on the journals... or probably not, now that she thought about it. She laughed in agreement at Cecilia's last comments. "That sounds pretty good, actually. An excuse to hit up a nearby drugstore for a random paperback and some snacks." Because those cookies weren't going to last forever she thought as she reached for just one more.

"You pretty much just described my ideal staycation, honestly."

"This is what I'm aiming for, kinda." She wasn't going anywhere at least, and it was meant for relaxation, after all. "I'll leave you to your sleuthing, then. Want me to bring anything back for you?" Bobbi asked as she started to get to her feet.

"Nah, I'm okay," Cecilia waved a hand. "Got my coffee and my cookies. And my peer-reviewed medical periodicals. What more could a girl ask for?" She winked.

"Now there you have me," admitted Bobbi. "We'll have to do this again sometime, I think. Next time I'll bring the cookies?"

"Deal."
