Hope makes arrangements for the other Delegate to be dealt with.
"I am terribly sorry to disturb you, Ms. Frost." Hope started as the virtual connection stabilized. "But I am afraid we might require your assistance..."
Emma smiled at the younger woman, trying to temper the anxiety she could see underlying Hope's expression. "You haven't disturbed me, Hope," she replied. "I was catching up on some accounting paperwork and interrupting that particular task is more of a blessing than a curse. Now, how may I assist you?"
"Garrulous and Scanner are safely in SHIELD's hands and we are currently working to undo the damage they did. We decided to 'deal' with the sponsors of the bill as well in the hope of shutting the bill down completely. Unfortunately one of them is out of our reach, but he is on a business trip to Boston."
“Is he now?” Emma arched one perfect brow at Hope. “I presume that Doug will have some details of who he is and where he is? And be able to send them through to me?”
"Doug is currently preparing for his part in taking down our other sponsor, but I have the information we have available right here." Hope held up a thumb drive. "Personal information, basic background check, an overview of his political stances and as much of an itinerary we could put together of his trip."
Emma smiled. “In the circumstances, I’ll send you the name of a most excellent and discreet courier service – they’ll be able to have that to my desk in an hour or two. The fewer traceable records in my name, the better, I think.” She considered Hope for a moment. “You’ve been far more intimately involved in this matter than I have. Do you have any views on what the most appropriate way to deal with him may be? For you answer you may presume,” Emma arched that brow again, “that neither morality nor criminal charges need be considered in my most effective form of action.”
Hope pulled over the paper version of the file and quickly scanned it to refresh her memory. "Based on the way we are hoping to take out the other sponsor I would suggest not using a sexual scandal and if it will be something to damage his name, something with a delayed effect. It would look a little suspicious if both sponsors were taken down around the same time with a scandal, even if it are different types of scandal."
Returning to the file, she found two places she had marked before. "He has an import/export business and he recently has been making a deal or two with countries that while not quite on the blacklist, are also not entirely 'clean'. Perhaps some ammunition might be found there in a deal that turns out to be shady. The other thing... he has a son who is severely ill and he has been hoping to get him a spot on a clinical trial with a promising medication. I think that might be one of the most effective places to deal with him. Parents will do things for their children they will not do for anything or anyone else."
“Yes. Yes, parents do things to their children that they don’t do to anyone else,” replied Emma, a perfectly neutral tone making her rephrasing almost unnoticeable. “I think you’re right – a carrot, rather than a stick. Pulling strings in the medical research community isn’t even that hard. They’re so eager to do good.” Emma’s voice was tinged with both warm affection and wry exasperation. “I’m sure I can negotiate a most satisfactory outcome. I can be extremely persuasive. I presume you and Doug have sorted out something suitable for the other sponsor?”
"We do." Hope nodded. "It turns out Delegate Taylor is a bit of a hypocrite and fancies visible mutant streetwalkers. It looks like a possible scandal is brewing." She paused for a moment, then added. "I just feel for his wife and children. They did not ask for this."
“He sees us as things, Hope. Things to fuck and kill. And he’s smart enough and well-connected enough to do both of those things within the law. He will make laws that kill us and smile and never take any responsibility for the consequences at all.” Emma was all chill and ice, but her voice softened slightly. “I will make sure that his wife and children have access to safety and counselling, if it’s needed. And if they try and turn the blame towards the mutant community for bringing daddy down, their counselling will ensure they don’t think that way for very long. I will personally attest to that.”
"That would be good, Ms. Frost. Thank you. I had been thinking about that, as well as them being held up as a kind of martyrs, victims of the mutants who seduced their father and husband. We know some of the media will still trying to spin it that way." Hope nodded.
“I have a number of contacts and a number of extremely intimate photos available to me,” replied Emma. “Any media that try and spin it that way will be very swiftly dissuaded. There is little we can do about the shoutier members of the anti-mutant groups on the internet pushing that particular barrow, but there’s generally very little we can do about them anyway. If they cause any particular problems, we’ll deal with them as they arise. Is there anything more that we need to discuss? I don’t wish to be rude, but I have another meeting scheduled shortly.”
"No ma'am, this would be all." Hope replied with a nod. "Thank you for your assistance and I wish you a good day."
