Rogue and Dominion take the first match up against the Incredible Hulk.
The air of anticipation was electric on the rooftop of the Triskalion building. They couldn't find a way to intercept the Avengers before they got to the city, instead being forced to rely on a last stand on SHIELD headquarters. The biggest danger was letting the battle spill over into the densely populated neighbourhoods of Manhattan. It wasn't tactically ideal, but it was the best option they had. The flyers were arrayed around the Quinjet, and perched on top, ignoring the cold and force of the wind as it sped forwards was the Hulk. He was going to be the tip of the spear in the attack. As they swooped in, he lept from the jet with a mighty push and slammed into the concrete hard enough to crack it. Directly in front of him stood Rogue and Dominion, ready to challenge the first strike.
"Fuck, he is one huge green bitch."
Rogue grunted in response as she clenched her fists at her side. It was pointless to say anything but she was relishing this second chance at the Hulk. Last time, her neck was covered in bruises for days, and she could barely speak. Unacceptable.
Lifting herself up in the air, she dive-bombed the Hulk dead on, taking advantage of his slower reflexes. She landed a solid hit to his head before moving up in the air away from him.
Hulk swatted at her, just missing. For all of his bulk, he was fast. Fortunately for them, both Rogue and Dominion were faster. Kane rolled under a punch aimed his way and came up at his side. Three massive uppercuts, so fast that they blurred, slammed into Hulk's side, where the kidney was. The force staggered him for a moment, and then Kane was forced to leap back to avoid a sweeping backhand. The way Hulk moved was almost ape-like, dropping to all fours to pivot and keep them both in front of him. Despite the solid blows to the head and the kidney, he seemed unfazed.
"OK, so... uh, we got his attention."
It felt like they'd been here before, but last time, there was more cement, less open space. The Hulk roared in their direction before coming charging, fists flying in the air. Surprised by the sudden speed, Rogue miscalculated her distance from the ground. A fist clipped her ankle, causing her to spiral to the side. "Goddamnit," she growled, looking around desperately for something to hit him with. "I'm already outta ideas."
Kane moved in, driving a foot into the crook of Hulk's knee. It forced the larger man down, setting up two more rapid blows before Kane danced back, just out of range.
"I guess we just keep him occupied for now. He's-" Kane reeled back as the Hulk charged. The creature anticipated Kane's move and only his reflexes saved him from a direct blow to the chest. Instead, it glanced off his shoulder. Hulk's strength was great enough that even that glancing blow threw Dominion back a dozen feet, sending him rolling along the roof and off the edge.
Without a second thought, Rogue dove after Kane, catching him by his leg. She pulled him right side up before placing him back on the roof. Taking Kane's words to mind, she then charged the Hulk, doing her best to avoid his grabs while at the same time, minimizing the damage to herself. One slight miscalculation led to a fist to her head, causing her to see stars for a moment.
This threw her off-balance, leading her to reduce her ability to fight.
Hulk followed up with a hammering blow to the chest, smashing her against a concrete abutment. The follow up blow was thrown off by Kane, as he slammed into the Hulk's arm, crushing both fists into his elbow. The creature bellowed in pain as he staggered back and then charged Dominion. The Canadian ducked the swiping grab, rolling on to his back and putting both feet into Hulk's stomach. With the momentum, Kane pushed hard and the Hulk went end over end twice before disappearing off the roof.
"Holy fuck..." Kane got up to his feet, looking over to where Rogue was doing the same. "I guess that's down one-"
A green hand slammed into the edge of the roof, crushing concrete as it flexed and the Hulk sprang up in a leap, carrying himself to the other side of the roof and howled a challenge.
'Shit."
It was never that easy. It was with stars in her eyes that she sighed heavily, watching the Hulk bound up as if nothing had happened. "We've fought him for at least an hour already, right? Has to be an hour."
Running, she leapt into the air, headbutting him in the shoulder. It didn't work as intended -- in fact, she was pretty sure she was the one hurting more than the Hulk who didn't seem fazed at all. His big green hands lunged for her body, and she managed to barely get away from his grasp. Deciding that sometimes, the old tricks were the best, she went over to where her body had pulverized the concrete. A piece of rebar was sticking out, so she picked it up, tossing it in one hand like a baseball bat. "Kane, catch," she called out.
"On it." Kane snatched the steel bar out of the air and in the same motion caught the Hulk with a tremendous blow to the side of the head. The green man reeled back as the follow up blow landing on his forehead. A third caught him under the jaw. Unfortunately, the fourth didn't land. The Hulk grabbed the rebar and pulled Kane forward in a deceptively quick gesture, smashing him solidly in the midsection and sending him stumbling back.
Rogue narrowly avoided being hit by Kane's body. A few inches to the right and she would've been under him. He didn't look good, and while the Hulk was momentarily distracted, she rushed to Kane's side. "You okay? How long do we have to do this for? We ain't gonna win...."
"We just need to keep him tied up. But I don't think brute force is the key to that. Like... it seems like the more we hit him, the stronger he gets." Hulk casually snapped the rebar in two and tossed it aside. "We need someone who can hit him in the brain."
A lightbulb went off. Concentrating hard, Rogue sent out a message to Jean, as best as she could. She hoped the telepath could hear the call for help.
