Dust comes to help Synch in dealing with Vision and Falcon
With Jean's departure, Synch had to quickly shift over from telekinesis to Dust's sand morphing powers. There was a moment of dislocation, but fortunately, the X-Men training was similar to many of SHIELD's program and they were quickly in sync. However, both Avengers were formidable opponents and the pressure was mounting for both sides.
After months of training together, Ev knew Sooraya's powers better than anyone else's. Synching to her — fully synching, not just partially manifesting her powers through his aura — was fast and easy. His borrowed uniform fell to the floor as his body disintegrated in a swirling cloud of shimmering multicolor particles. The cloud rotated faster, twisting into a small tornado that rose into the air to catch Falcon.
Realizing Ev's plan, Sooraya aimed for the other direction, flying up several meters above Falcon. As soon as she saw Ev starting to rise, she swooped down, forming a dense, blinding cloud around his head. He wore some kind of goggles that protected his eyes, so she didn't hesitate to press close.
The dust cloud that was Ev took advantage of the flanking by attacking Falcon's wings like locusts swarming on a grain field. It threw the Avenger off balance, and the persistent offensive inhibited him from righting himself. On instinct, Ev pulled away just before Falcon crashed onto the roof from where Ev and Jean had been fighting just moments before. Though as he did, he realized there was no risk that he was going to crash and hurt himself, so he chuckled at his own caution. Or whatever passed for chuckling in his form.
Sooraya had stayed with the Avenger till the end, but now pulled away to hover close to Ev, waiting to see if said Avenger would stay down. Clearly it was a stubborn man and when he was just barely on his feet, Sooraya dove down to force her way under his feet to send him to the ground again. Razor sharp tendrils reached out, sawing their way through the straps that kept the wing contraption securely to his back.
Sam rolled, keeping his body moving. He'd determined that the sand was sentient, making his guns worthless. Fortunately, that was not his only option. With a switch, he switched over the induction engine of his pack and spread out the wings. Instead of pulling in air to power him through the sky, it began to powerfully vent it, subjecting them both to concentrated blasts of high velocity wind. It tore at their forms, punching holes in the sand and dispersing parts of them widely across the roof.
Ev blew back, pulling pieces of himself with him to avoid what presumably could become third-degree burns once he had skin again. New strategy, now that Falcon was grounded. Ev packed himself in as tightly as he could, remembering what he had told Sooraya when they first started training together. Don't think about the trillions of individual particles. He was one being, just dispersed pieces of a whole. His shimmering cloud came together, a blob of glittering sand that resolved itself into a vaguely humanoid shape. Punchy punchy.
Next to him, another spiral of sand was descending from the air where she had taken refuge when the vent opened up and another humanoid figure formed, this one shorter and more slender, but just as solid. Pulling back her arm and she let her fist fly... her arm becomes a lot longer as it slammed into what looked like to be the power pack of the wing technology.
The blow sent Falcon careening to the other end of the rooftop, and Ev followed. He took Sam in one massive hand and squeezed, his grip as tight as a vice. If he had a voice in this form, he would have cried out in anguish when Falcon extended his wings, sheering through his hand like a hot knife through butter. Ev's fallen fingers swirled listlessly as he tried to call them back to his self while Falcon tried to get airborne again.
Sooraya had followed swiftly and tossed out three of her limbs. Falcon's ankles were caught in her 'hands', while a 'foot' enclosed Falcon's wrist. With a heave Dust pulled on them, sending him flying over head and sending him smacking in the rooftop yet again. A shrieking sound suddenly rang out as one of the wings folded on itself. Another jerk and Falcon was flying over Sooraya's head again as the other wing encountered the rooftop as well.
He hit the wall hard, tucking in his head and taking the brunt of the impact on the shoulder. Sam hit the concrete with a crack, as obviously a bone or two under his armor cracked. The unconscious Avenger was lying prone and still.
Ev's sand form discorporated, his dust flowing gently as if on a light breeze back to his discarded uniform. The particles melted into each other, re-forming a living, breathing Ev. His left hand was burned and bleeding from where he had taken Falcon's attack, but he was otherwise whole. And dressed. No embarrassment this time.
"Red Tornado is still at large," he said breathlessly, pulling himself to his feet and going to check on Falcon. "Flies, phases, energy blasts from his forehead. Think you can handle him? I think your powers are a better match than Grey's psionics."
"I think I could at least keep him out of the way." Sooraya replied after she had assumed her human form. "Best get him to medical as soon as possible though. Not looking so hot, if I say so." With those words she dissolved into her sand form again, taking to the sky.
Ev deftly unhooked Falcon's harness and took a ziptie from his pouch to keep Sam's hands behind his back, in case the concussion was not enough to keep him out. "I'm sure he'll be fine," he said, waving off Sooraya and lifting Falcon into a fireman's carry. "Take care."
